Week 9 - Low Carb Bootcamp - The End is Nigh!

BIWI · 10/03/2014 07:41

Morning all!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And don't forget the Weight Tracker

As we get to the end of this Bootcamp, I'd like you all to think about how MNHQ can make our space even better for the next time around.

The original plan was to move to the Weight Tracker and drop the Spreadsheet, which would mean Willie wouldn't have to tend it all the time - but we seem to have kept it going for this Bootcamp. If we were to lose it next time, what do you think you would miss the most?

For me, I think definitely the information in the tabs needs to be transferred over somehow - but is there anything else you'd like to see?

Anyway, a busy week for me as I'm off to Lille Tuesday/Wednesday, up at 5.00 am tomorrow and not getting back home till around 10.00 pm on Wednesday. All I will see will the inside of a taxi, a French supermarket, an office block and another taxi - no time even to go out for dinner on Tuesday night!

And I have no idea what's going to happen on the food front as it's all out of my control But then, that's what this WOE is all about - making the best choices we can at the time.

So - good luck to you all, hope that the fine weather helps you have a great week Flowers

Good luck BIWI and trashy I'm really pleased for you! long may it continue.
Hidden scales, yay, but feel a bit sore of tummy, and it's a wee bit bloated Hmm both yesterday and today.
BabyTwit made up for his better nights last week by being horrendous the last two nights Angry, I came really close to breaking yesterday, but recognised it as tired and emotional eating, thought of all of you losers and stayed away from the carby twattness.
I suspect it will be back today, so am going to tesco's to see what I could treat myself to instead.

Hope you are all well Smile

EverythingIsAwesome · 11/03/2014 07:22

Ooops Biwi :( if all else fails, eat the contents of a sandwich and bin the bread?

My scales may be broken, as it reckons I've lost 7lbs in 2 days, which I fear is just too bloody good. They are quite new as well, and have been very accurate up til now :(

trash, liquid smoke gives food that actual BBQ'd on a fire taste, I bought it to make tasty BBQ (lc) sauces & stuff.

I have a college trip tomorrow to Edinburgh for the day, we need to bring a packed lunch - any ideas? I dont like cold frittatta.

Im in college all day today, hoping the canteen is doing a lc soup today (they do 50% of teh time), if not Tesco is just round the corner, I will nip out & pick up some pre-cooked chicken & salad.

DurhamDurham · 11/03/2014 07:25

Trash I went to bed to read my book last night ( The Stand by Stephen King, read it twice already 20 and 10 years ago) but I got so engrossed in your post that I read that instead!!
You are fab, with an encouraging word for everyone, funny too!! GrinGrin Hope all is well with you and yours, please do not disappear after bootcamp. I will fall off the wagon big style if we don't all come and chat.

SayraT · 11/03/2014 07:51

Just SMS.

Feeling sorry for myself today Sad its TOTM and I feel rubbish. Normally I am not so bad but my tummy is all crampy, I feel grumpy, I AM grumpy.

Yesterday I was so grumpy that at least three separate people said I was being a bit aggressive (not as bad as it sounds, I was annoyed that my pen had gone missing) "Its the only pen I have!!!!"

EverythingIsAwesome · 11/03/2014 07:55

Sayra, yes this woe can affect your hormones! Each fat cell contains estrogen as well as fat water, so as we lose weight, we get this rush of hormones. It always affects my TOTM to start with, then settles back down.

Thumbwitch · 11/03/2014 08:00

Oh no, BIWI! Bummer. :(

Twit - I'm sure he'll be ok again soon. Titchierwitch has been a PITA the last couple of nights too; he's getting very reluctant to go to bed, even after a feed; and then feeding far more through the night again. I don't know why except that he's had a cold and still has a bit of a gluggy chest, iykwim. We co-sleep though so he has more access - I guess if we didn't he might not be so bothered, it's hard to tell.

Trashy - sounds great! And so glad your DS1 has escaped the Flat of Doom and is happy to "hang around" at yours. :)

Thanks to all sympathisers and sympathies to all fellow fall-off-wagoners!
I hate to say it but even though I felt bleh after eating all that unnecessary carb (and I did) it was still bloody lovely while I was eating it. Sugarbuds not reset yet. :( Although that might be because I had the crisps first...

Busy bloody day today - took Titchierwitch to the doc to see about his breath-holding ishoos (He'll grow out of it, meantime keep doing what I'm doing and he seems fine and unlikely to suffer any damage); took Titchwitch to have his haircut straight after school because it's school photo day tomorrow and he was starting to look like a mini-surfydude, and he's only 6! Then had to take him to his dancing class, deal with Titchierwitch getting bored (couldn't leave him behind as DH working later than usual) gah gah gah.

Now DH is cooking dinner though, so that's ok. Grin

I did find some super fabby ultra low carb mini bites in choc mocha flavour - they were lunch. Dinner will be turkey and vegetable thing leftovers. Then all I have to do is avoid the munchies....

Pleaseandthankyou · 11/03/2014 08:12

I really like to see everyone's weight loss on the spreadsheet. Even though I haven't really lost it gives me inspiration. My goal this year is to lose a pound per month and keep it off. My worry is the pounds will creep back on. I am ridding my wardrobe of the baggy clothes so that there is no easy way back. The baggy bras are next to go. Trash really glad all is heading the right way with your son. It is all about small steps and hopefully most of them in the right direction.

CrabbySpringyBottom · 11/03/2014 08:42

Thanks Eva, I'll still be here doing my super replies because I just love you all! Grin

BIWI that's exactly the danger - I'm prone to going right off the rails if I give myself an inch. Blush

Kefy yes the science behind Low GI and Low Carb is similar in that spikes in blood sugar are unhealthy/damaging, and both emphasise eating natural foods and avoiding processed stuff and refined carbs. Low GI isn't a specifically low fat WOE, but it doesn't recommend high fat either. I guess the main difference between the two is that Low Carb reverses the carb-protein-fat ratio to fat-protein-carbs, whereas Low GI evens it out a bit more, so complex low GI carbs with lots of veg-protein-fat (but not low fat). I'd like to experiment with combining the two, as I do love my veggies drenched in olive oil/butter. I think the weight gain and other health issues come about when you combine carbs and fat - it's got to be one or the other, the question is what's the 'washout period'... Can you have a higher fat low carb lunch and then a low GI dinner and not gain weight?

I'll link to some resources later when I've got more time.

Thanks for that Stunt and yes the GL is equally as important as the GI.

Everything here is my blog.

Well done everyone who's lost this week, and commiserations to everyone who's skidding around behind the wagon, trying to get back on (I include myself in that).

Monkey so sorry to hear about your friend. That's way more important than sticking to the diet/WOE imho.

Happy Belated Birthday to the SnowieBearCub.

Whoosh stop beating yourself up RIGHT NOW! Sometimes a girl's just got to eat a bit too much... you stuck to low carb so what's the problem?

Trashy yay for your big whoosh, a lovely time with DS and furniture installation magnificence. Must see photos please. Oh I wish I were a hottie but sadly this is not so. Maybe twenty years ago. Grin

BIWI will they do a cooked breakfast on the Eurostar?

Sayra this isn't very sympathetic but for some reason your pen aggression made me Grin! Probably because I have a tendency to get apoplectically furious over the most inconsequential things.

Right I've got to go and prepare for the first science club. My incredibly capable friend is running the session so all I've got to do is try to keep 9 feral children and their mums happy. Spend much of yesterday in a cleaning frenzy. Am so ashamed of the state of the house. Hmm

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/03/2014 08:53

I can't really keep up or contribute much to the threads, but I do like to see the info on the tracker - like this week's good news about trash's hoooge loss.

Tracker definitely needs to go down!

Not sure how it will work after BC or indeed when another starts? Can we use it long term?

In a way as much as we are here to lose weight, I'd prefer it under Health, not Diet.

Couldn't all your spreadsheet tab info be added to this page A central place for everything?

I'd like some more links - info about the water requirements, the why. Maybe something about dairy and sweeteners being potential brakes on weightless. Something about exercise and low carb. Realising asking a lot here, soz :)

The spreadsheet is a lot for one person to do, to be honest I don't look at anyone else's stats, just add mine and have referred to the tabs.

Ooooo and I lost one pound here this week. Am nothing if not reliable :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/03/2014 08:54

DH would sympathise lovely BIWI he often does trips to Europe where he flies in, holds meetings in airport conference rooms, stays in airport and leaves.

Could be ANYWHERE

Glamorous stuff.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 11/03/2014 08:58

Trash I think I love you Grin Yes, 0.6lb off (well actually 0.4lb as it turns out maths is not my forte...) Need to remember the trend is my friend and all that!

Looking forward to pork belly slices tonight with the cheesy leeks of wonder someone (argh, can't remember who, sorry) posted on Sunday. Roast swede too maybe as have one that needs using up.

monkeyfacegrace · 11/03/2014 10:09

Gah Im still fat.

sybilfaulty · 11/03/2014 10:25

Grace, many of us are still fat. We are still lovely. We are doing something about it. Sometimes we go the direct route to where we want to be, and others we go round the houses. It's the scenic route for me every time....

Be nice to yourself. Have a cup of tea. You will get there. Keep on keeping on.

I have just eaten an avocado with vinegar in the hole and sea salt. Gosh it was gorgeous. I had roasted broccoli with sausages and swede last night. Another yum fest. We are lucky to have such fab food available ( most of the time - sorry BIWI), let alone that it is making us healthy and lose weight.

Right, back to work....

Thumbwitch · 11/03/2014 10:31

Yes please to tracker going down - it's far more motivating that way!

monkeyfacegrace · 11/03/2014 10:45

Ive just had an ace meal.

I did streaky bacon, cauiflower, cream cheese, double cream, cheddar cheese, salt and pepper.

Bloody lovely.

But Ive just installed MFP and it had a fit about the calories! Uninstalling immediatley.

Ive lost 22lb over 10 weeks. Im stuck at 153lb and have been for a couple of weeks some big fuck ups in there

Im bored. I have 20lb to go and its drrrraaaggggggiiiinnngggggg.

StuntNun · 11/03/2014 10:50

Everything Tesco have started doing a salad bowl with vinaigrette which is much better than their usual low fat dressings. Last picnic we had I took that salad and some cooked chicken drumsticks. If you need more what about a small bar of 74% chocolate (also from Tesco) and don't forget your bottle of water. Also Tesco have started selling preprepared coconut pieces, BIWI would that be a good low carb snack?

NeverEndingLaundry · 11/03/2014 11:00

Is there going to be a new bootcamp when this one's done? I'm just organising myself for a low-carb attack on my flab and I'd love to join in with the chat.

I've been reading a book called The Calorie Myth which seems to make sense (though its American perspective is a bit tiring/baffling at times). I've also read Briffa and I have the IPD cookbook. Love the idea of filling up with masses of greenery and good fat plus protein. I don't have a sweet tooth, but giving up booze will be a challenge.

For breakfast I made a huge smoothie consisting of a big bit from a block of coconut cream; masses of frozen spinach; some ground flax seeds a few raspberries and lots of water. Not something I would serve to others, but not too revolting to drink.

SnowieBear · 11/03/2014 13:26

Ye Gods you ladies can talk! Grin

Quick post for today before dashing off to a meeting...

BIWI it's so annoying when you plan and then forget! You'll ride this one, you are the boss!

Twit be kind to yourself, if I were to imagine myself doing all this when DS was little, I'd get a panic attack. Big pat on the back for you, you are doing well, take every single opportunity that comes across to rest.

EverythingIsAwesome love your name! Can you tell what we watched at the cinema on Sunday? Yup, it's been on my mind all the bloody time Grin.

Durham, NeverEndingLaundry and everyone else wishing for bootcamp to stay after this one is finished. I'm up for it, we'll all definitely keep SMS'ing, I'm sure.

Sayra I think we have all had mood swings - I've calmed down now (I think!) it'll settle down, have faith.

Thumb are you Superwoman? Blimey, don't forget to breath yourself!

Crabby, thanks for the birthday wishes for my wee cub Thanks.

Piste not glamourous at all from the perspective of the one doing it, believe me... It's so odd, you come back home and everyone is hugely envious of all the international travel which is SO boring. Your DH is lucky you understand, mine felt hard done by Hmm.

Trashy you are full of your DS's music in your post, it's lovely how it comes across and fills you up with joy. Can't wait for your pictures, I'm sure it's going to look fab. And did you say you had lost more weight today? Right... put your hands up and step away from the Whoosh Fairy!

I stepped on the scales again today after a very good day yesterday. Bingo, down 2lbs from Monday, overall loss 3lbs, putting me 1lbs under my inflated TOTM weight the previous week. Well chuffed, getting round to accept I may not get to 9st 6lbs by Easter, but if I make it under 10st I'll be happy.

OK... that was meant to be quick Blush... better dash now or I'll be late for my meeting. Happy LC'ing, everyone!

SnowieBear · 11/03/2014 13:29

Just thinking... under 10st will mean 4lbs between now and D-Day... Confused.

C'mon body, you can do it!

EvaTheOptimist · 11/03/2014 13:30

Wow Never I can't quite imagine a spinach smoothie... There will be an ongoing thread after the bootcamp thread because plenty of us will not be stopping this way of eating. So please join in!

Monkey 22lbs in 10 weeks is AMAZING. You will so get there. But some patience is required. You must be able to see some difference already, with 22lbs off? I thought of the long slow loss of weight gain some weeks over many months as a journey into unchartered territory. as I couldn't remember what it was like to be those lower weights, so it was all new, it was all good and better than the week or month before, on each part of that journey. A mindset of enjoy the journey rather than yearn for the destination a little bit more woo than usual here!

HeirToTheIronThrone · 11/03/2014 14:01

Monkey I have been LC-ing since new year too and am a measley 7.6lbs down - so you are a SUPERSTAR and I bow down to you.

NeverEndingLaundry · 11/03/2014 14:03

Oh how fab. Thanks Eva and Snowie. I'm going to be soooo gorgeous with all your support! Inspired by so much success here.

I've just found the rules and I'm off to stock up the fridge now.

LittleMissDisorganized · 11/03/2014 14:08

monkey I'm still fat.
But it's a description of obesity/ overweight-ness, not a miserable state of mind. My BMI is (still quite a bit) over 30, and, therefore, I am fat.
But I am lighter than I was, and I am continually unhitching my self esteem from what I see in the mirror. Sometimes many times a day. Do you use "fat" as a criticism about yourself (and others?) or as a factual description? What would it take to stop using it to put yourself down? Ignore me if that's not helpful - it just felt like it might be useful.
And clearly 22lb is amazing and probably one of the highest losses. Many ladies are sticking to the rules and not losing anything like as much.

Sayra it's not the same implant is it? When did it go in? They last for 3 years, but whilst they are effective contraception for two years, the amount of hormone released steadily decreases with time, and so on average most people won't get any symptoms recurring before the 3 years, but some people will, and if you had pre-menstrual symptoms before you could get them back early, and be in need of a replacement early... anyway, I'm mainly just really sorry that you are struggling, and hope that you are feeling calmer soon. It's unusual to 'see' you not chatty - I hope you've got through the day ok and please do something nice for yourself this evening.

Heir I think I might do a variation on those leeks tonight too - have a thing of cracked black pepper Boursin which is best before Thursday - we can compare notes!

trashcan I agree with Eva that your posts are on fire with positiveness. I really admire the outlook you have especially on having learned the things you've been through.

BIWI safe travels. I hope the Eurostar turned up something and it's a successful trip

I had a really nice morning out - but my walking stamina is awful. I ripped my neuropathic scarred heels with new shoes on Saturday and they are still ridiculously sore. And I got too out of puff - but I swim half a mile three times a week so I'm not completely useless, just still a very long way to go it seems. I can do better when I'm walking somewhere, rather than 'going for a walk', I'm sure when DH and I have had a couple of day trips I've walked a fair way round towns and been ok. I used to be a competent hillwalker, weighing probably 4 stone less than I do now, and would think a 15 mile route with at least 2000ft height gain a normal day out. Sometimes looking back is so frustrating.

Food-wise I made some lovely chicken wrapped in parma ham with fresh thyme last night, and just did a using up what's left in the fridge impromptu lunch of bare naked noodles with pesto, a spoonful of mascarpone, some roast ham, wilted rocket and spinach, sprinkled with the end of a bag of grated cheese. Surprisingly good - not often all the leftovers come together like that!

Have a good sunny afternoon everyone.

prettybird · 11/03/2014 15:36

Yaayyy :):) 2lb down which means I hit this month's target :)

WhooshFuckerFairy · 11/03/2014 16:26
