Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

trashcan - ignore the worriers re the water. As everyone else has said, as long as you're not drinking it all in one bucket full, and as long as you're eating food that will give you your essential sodium, magnesium and potassium you should be fine.

We do seem to have an issue with salt. And again, it's because we have been told for a long time now that too much salt is bad for us. But when you low carb, it isn't. I'll see if I can find something more about that. Hang on ...

.... and a really interesting piece here about electrolytes and the need to drink lots of water

When I weighed in yesterday I was 2 lb heavier than last week but I weighed myself this morning and I was 3 lb lighter than yesterday. Would it be bad to change the spreadsheet? Smile

B: tuna muffin
L: Left-over roast lamb, broccoli + cauliflower
D: Lamb curry on a little gem lettuce
S: Lidl FF yoghurt

goodasitgets Grin Mine too. Because we 'need' 50% of carbs everyday.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 28/01/2014 08:10

Morning Campers!

Right, that's all tables reserved for you lot on the opening night of my low carb cafe then. Grin

Up and awake decently early this morning. Not feeling my best yesterday after weekend of excess, but today is the last day before DD's birthday and departure for NZ. Lots to do!

Food yesterday
L - last slice of shallot and goats' cheese tart and last slice of crustless quiche lorraine
D - beef and mushroom goulash with cauli rice
S - the remainder of the chocolate ganache that I made on Sunday. Blush
Din't have enough water, really. Several teas.

googoogoggles · 28/01/2014 08:37

LOL at trashcan's "shouting shit" rather than responding to other posters – feel the same sometimes as it's hard to remember who's written what by the time I've caught up with several pages of posts! Am going to start responding at least to last couple of posts above where I'm typing at least, so Crabby – hope you get everything done and your DD's birthday party goes well and chin up re her leaving for NZ!
Sayra I feel like changing spreadsheet, too. Was almost 2lbs down this am! Hope it stays that way for next Monday's weigh in, but may be to do with copious amounts of water I was drinking and trips to the loo!
Today, am planning
B Smoked salmon/philly
L (poss) tuna/mayo/diced cucumber and shallot wrapped in lettuce leaf rolls
D lamb chops with roast celeriac or mashed swede with buttery kale
Loads of water

googoogoggles · 28/01/2014 08:43

For those of you struggling on the water front, I've got myself one of those refillable 750 ml bottles with a squirty top (technical term) and am aiming for 4 a day. Seems less daunting and more do-able somehow than having 8-10 glasses – and easier to keep track.

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 28/01/2014 08:44

Morning all. Crabby- I was thinking the same thing. Definite gap in the market, along with a range of ready meals perhaps?

So I waited til this morning to weigh, I work stupidly long hours on a Monday. Still 3lb up on last week. Bit disheartening (especially when I've been perfect, and when there are people saying "I accidentally ate chocolate, but still lost 1lb"...) but I haven't strayed and don't plan to. I'm going to cut out the ff yoghurts, I felt I was having yog/cream/vanilla because I fancied a little something, and not because I needed it. Which might have been the problem. This week my aim is to concentrate on only eating when I'm hungry, and stopping when I'm full! That's a big change for me. Also going to find some coconut oil and look into making bpc instead of coffee with cream. Trying to cut down on dairy without feeling deprived.

Today's plan:

B: egg in a cup
L: leftover roast pork salad with loads of dressing/mayo
D: meatballs and courgett-i

MrsHughJarse · 28/01/2014 08:45

Dashes in last for weekly weigh in - and its a 1lb off.... Humming mantra, trend is my friend......

I did have my first sip of alcohol since starting bootcamp last night - a stiff gin and slimline when we got back from my parents to the building site we call home to discover STILL no heating despite promises from said feckless, lazy hardworking sloping off to other jobs when our backs are turned builders.

So without the gin it may have been more off - but alchol does seem to have an encouraging effect on my bowels...... say no more Blush

Crabby - yes please - book me a slot too at the low carb caf. Can you branch out nationwide , including Somerset !

Found this Tuna thingy in Tesco - have oilive oil in it - and its really yummy - they do two flavours. Not for all you organised types, but when you are a little over multitasked - it fills a gap for lunch at work.

Waves hello to all. Perhaps we could post some pics of how far apart buttons are from button holes in favourite clothes we want to get into - as motivation before we all get superslim... ! If I get a chance I will do that with my ' test jeans' - in which the button hole is about a foot from the button !!Shock

Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...
SteeleyeStan · 28/01/2014 08:51

Morning all. Sooo tired, yet I keep waking up at 5.30... Hmm

I stuck to the plan yesterday, except I made braised savoy cabbage with dinner instead of broccoli. And in the evening I had a small amount of Lidl yoghurt with a few spoonfuls of homemade nut and seed "muesli".

Today's plan:

B: Eggs fried in butter.
L: Avocado and bulletproof coffee.
S: Ikea's tiny elk and pork sausage and/or two pieces of 90% chocolate.
D: Parmesan chicken again (so good!) with green veggies (broccoli or kale or whatever needs eating next).

googoogoggles · 28/01/2014 08:53

Know what you mean about a range of low carb cafe food...
Walked into Nero yesterday and there was NOTHING I could eat – apart maybe from deconstructing a sandwich and frankly that seemed like a complete waste of money
At least they did a little jug of cream so I could add a splash to my coffee (cream addict)

ChesterDrawers · 28/01/2014 09:25

Feeling really bloated today. Not sure why - maybe it's the remnants from my Bad Weekend?

Scales didn't move this morning, despite a good day yesterday. Ah well, I will stick with it.

Today:
B: Scrambled eggs with ham and butter
L: Probs hot smoked salmon and a salad from M&S, with olive oil
D: Lamb steaks fried in butter, rosemary and garlic, with creamy leeks and courgetti spaghetti

Have been spinning this morning too to think I can declare myself back on the wagon.

BIWI · 28/01/2014 09:31

I'm Grin at 'shouting shit'. Maybe that's what I should rename the Bootcamp threads?!

OP posts:
BIWI · 28/01/2014 09:32

Crabby - chin up. The worst part, IMVHO, is the lead up to them going. Once she's actually gone (and safely arrived, obviously) you will be fine.

OP posts:
SayraT · 28/01/2014 10:37

googoo I did change it. I won't in future I just didn't want my 3rd week weight to have gone back up to my 1st week! I did the lc warm up week too, in total I've lost 9 lb so I'm very pleased.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 28/01/2014 10:48

Well, I am only 1.1lbs down overall, but 5lbs down from 2nd Jan when I started. And on Sunday we went to a friend's for a roast, and whilst I sneakily managed to stick all my potatoes on DH's plate, there was a yorkshire pud and some wine... I think though I am learning to choose my battles - so BC almost all the time, then on occasions like this, maybe have one carby thing, the one I want the most - does that make sense? So last night we went out for dinner to celebrate DH's bonus/pay rise, and I chose roast chicken with garlic butter and coleslaw, and swapped the chips for creamed spinach, but then had a couple of spoonfuls of dessert. For me this somehow makes it more sustainable - if I can eat BC 90% of the time and accept that a birthday or something might be a little blip now and again, I reckon I'm doing ok - and I was a massive binge eater before this so it's a bit of a revelation for me!

Oh, and I made your kashmiri curry at the weekend Crabby, only with beef not chicken, and a side of spiced aubergine and courgette. It was LUSH, so Thanks to you.

humanordancer · 28/01/2014 11:09

Hello all, and thanks for all the great inspiration!

I was away from my scales yesterday so just weighed in at 1.5 down this week. I'm very happy with that as it's (conservatively) over half a stone since starting to adopt this WOE in the New Year. Inch loss holding up nicely.

I did transgress with booze at the weekend (all of the white wine or sparkling variety), as a very dear friend was off to start a new life abroad. I decided damage limitation was the best policy. This probably also involved a bit too much cheese. (Mature cheddar on a "cracker" of cold butter proved an excellent hungover alternative to the glass of orange juice I wanted so very much)

So, at least another week on Bootcamp for me Grin

LittleMissDisorganized · 28/01/2014 11:38

Crabby, I wish I could give you a hug - you're doing really well, being as normal as possible is vital but almost impossible when today must feel anything but normal.

I had a bit of a celebratory tidy up this morning - I removed every last slimfast (and the like) product from the house. LAst summer I tried to lose weight that way, lost 10lb in a month but then stalled and gave in, as it was my birthday, holiday... you get the idea. I promised myself that I'd get rid of it all if I could prove over a couple of weeks that I was making sustainable changes and that the WOE seemed as positive as I thought it would be. And so it is gone, along with a general cupboard tidy up that was very satisfying.

Thank you Eva for the encouragement - I am doing better today :) and Crabby also, I am moving a bit better this morning.

helium you are appreciated around here, and you can do this. One slip does not the end of the world make.

Yesterday's food was:
B: yogurt concoction
L: sausages and scrambled egg and watercress with dressing (but random but fridge almost empty - shopping comes tomorrow)
D: eventually, roast chicken. It said cook for 95 minutes. After over half an hour beyond it's time in the oven, it was finally not pink. I put pancetta over it and thyme and sage under the skin - really tasty. with very overdone brocolli (waiting for the chicken to cook... grrr) Oh well. I did wake up hungry in the night as a result of not eating that much. Got back to sleep but lesson learned.

Looking forward to turning it into a sort of "risotto" with cauli-rice for tea tonight.

Piscivorus · 28/01/2014 11:39

I'm afraid I'm another general shit shouter as my poor brain, enfeebled at the moment by a chest infection, can't keep up.

I have got sugarfree Mentholyptus sweets and start my oral steroids today. God knows how I'll do next week, in theory the steroids could make me gain but I am burning off a good number of calories in coughing!

SteeleyeStan · 28/01/2014 11:56

I can't resist shouting (more) shit, too... [oops]
I've got a new historical crush! The man advocated low carbing and has a cheese named after him!

Yes, I'm afraid this is how I'm spending my morning... [oops]

Oh re. bad taste - if you're really against artificial sweeteners (in gum or mints), some people apparently swear by chewing anis seeds or fresh parsley.

SteeleyeStan · 28/01/2014 11:57

Hmmm... The oopses were supposed to be blushes. I may spend time on too many different websites... Blush

LibraryBook · 28/01/2014 12:42

That's so interesting re M. Brillat-Savarin.

I'm trailing all you guys by a week but apart from succumbing to a few glasses of Chablis on Saturday night and suffering the next day with a hangover (ugh - it's been a long time since I've had one of those), I've been really good and I'm feeling great. In control and definitely slimmer.

Thank you so much for the support.

B Coffee
L Chicken, bacon & avocado salad (watercress, cucumber, shallot rings and a few cherry tomatoes) and Delouis garlic mayo
D Sirloin roasted in the oven on a bed of swede, shallot and aubergine served with rocket and parmesan salad.

I found a nice recipe for Melanzane della Parmegiano (Aubergine in Parmesan) that is gorgeous. Lovely with a roasted garlicky chicken. I'll stick it up on the recipes thread.
