Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

I'm up 2lbs this week, well I suppose that's the price I pay for the chocolate binge earlier in the week. Ah well, onwards and downwards for next week!

SayraT · 27/01/2014 08:10

Pseudo since it was me that mentioned it first (I think)....

  1. Boil egg(s) however you like - I do hardboiled
  2. Peel and stick in a cup
  3. Add loads of butter
  4. Chop it up with a knife
  5. Eat Grin

I peel and chop one egg then the other, I find it too difficult to chop two at once.

blizy · 27/01/2014 08:11

Pseudo, boil eggs, peel shell, chop and mix in a cup with butter, salt, pepper or whatever you fancy. Done.

bettybigballs · 27/01/2014 08:12

I'm 1.5lb back on this week, it's all down to my period though I think. My boobs are huge and really sore. I've also been under 20g a day (only counting as trying to dairy under control).
I'm sticking to bootcamp apart from weds which is going to involve gin! :)

captainmummy · 27/01/2014 08:14

Gerry - well done; after all that, you are the biggest loser!! yay!

Germangirl - green tea is fine, (black and unsweetened of course) and should count towards your water intake.

Whoever sugested linseeds/flaxseed in yoghurt is inspired! i stirred some into Lidl yog yesterday and left it overnight to have for breakkie this am; it is lovely! Thick and really substantial, a good breakfast choice. I had it with some blueberries.

wakemeupnow · 27/01/2014 08:18

Well done to everyone for keeping up with the low carbing. I feel so much better health wise. No more bloating and I don't think I've farted once since this diet started ... Smile

captainmummy · 27/01/2014 08:20

CalamityKate - what happens when you use your fat cells is that they release fat, but replace it with water (to keep the cell full, in case it needs to fill it back up with fat at a later stage). After a while, your body decides that in fact it doesn't need so many full fat cells, and releases the water, shrinking the cell and showing a weight loss. This also explains why the scales don't always show a loss, though your clothes will do - the water takes up less space than teh fat.

As your body is going from burning Carbs for energy to burning Fat, your fat cells are hopefully replacing fat with water, and this can sometimes show as a weight gain, or plateau. It will settle down, it just takes time.

But if you are eating carbs like biscuits or drinking alcohol, those cells are going to get very confused! That is why Bootcamp is so good; breaking the addiction to sweet stuff and training your body to burn fat. The 2lb gain is probably water - your body readying itself for more carbs

arightoldbag · 27/01/2014 08:23

I'm still here!

yoghurt with loads of flaxseed today and bit of oat bran (for constipation)

Lunch - smoked salmon and egg

Tea - tuna mayo cheese salad and sugar free jelly and double cream

yum

loads and loads of water

PseudoBadger · 27/01/2014 08:23

Sounds great thanks, thank goodness I asked as I had visions of cracking an egg into a cup and then... I don't know what!

caramelwaffle · 27/01/2014 08:29

Good morning everyone. 2lb down

I like the graphs on the weight tracker page.

caramelwaffle · 27/01/2014 08:33

Just to add: I din't know how I have lost weight as I have had some many carbs and quite a bit of alcohol this past week.

Bootcamp proper this week I think.

Thumbwitch · 27/01/2014 08:40

I'm going to stay on Bootcamp mostly, but I've been hanging for some fruit, so I'm going to have a banana mashed with cream. Grin

But my slip last night cost me, so I think I need to stay on Bootcamp in general (and drink more water!!)

Already put lunch on thread 2, but I'll add it again here:
L - homemade mushroom soup with double cream and brie slices
s - babybel cheese
D - steak with mushrooms and onions, buttered cauliflower, carrots and broccoli, no pud yet.

Good luck everyone! Thanks

Ambassadoryouarespoilingme · 27/01/2014 08:42

hi all
I've been lurking more than posting as posting on my phone seems to fail every time.
Congratulations to all of you for your losses.
I'm down 6.4lbs since 13 Jan, which is not stupendous but not too bad. I haven't been perfect - bit more dairy than ideal, when I run out of time - plus I've had a very sore throat and cold. But, the thing I'm most pleased about is the reduced sugar cravings. I am usually a chocolate hound but I've been able to ignore offerings of sugary things without a mental tussle.
So, am sticking with Bootcamp, with alcohol on Saturday nights, in the hope of losing my next half stone within three weeks.
Its weirdly exciting.....
Good luck everyone, and thanks BIWI for all the support.

hopebeyondreason · 27/01/2014 08:45

2lbs down this week ( well a little bit less but I'm going with the nearest whole number). I've lost just 4lbs so far (6lbs since 2nd Jan), so I'm hoping there isn't much water loss there. It's a bit disappointing, as I have so much to lose, but I feel really balanced at the moment, IYSWIM, so I'm sticking to it. I'm feeling and looking slimmer too.

SteeleyeStan · 27/01/2014 08:47

Good morning all and good luck for week 3!

I've lost 1lb, which I'm ok with. Like EwanHoozami it's TOTM, so I'm also hoping there might be a larger net loss. Also my stomach's doing a bit of poo hoarding, it seems. Either way, 1lb is fine. :)

DH only lost half a pound, though, which was a surprise after last week's half a stone!

My plan now is to stick to Bootcamp during the week (more BC Light for DH for various things he misses), but allow a bit of transgression during the weekend, if that's what I want. I'm also not going to berate myself if I have two pieces of 90% chocolate in the evenings. (Just no more than that, and no straying to the sugary 70% ones which are my downfall!)

Food plan today:
B: Two fried eggs and coffee with coconut oil. (And soaked linseeds.)
L: Leftovers of swede, savoy cabbage and mince.
D: Black Farmer chipotles, buttery broccoli and some salad veggies.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 27/01/2014 08:53

Morning

entered in both places - down another 5lbs overall this week (despite the scales lurching up and down like a seasick buoy).

I think I am sticking to bootcamp for now, with the option of having a drink next weekend IF and ONLY if it seems like a nice idea, rather than 'thank fuck for that I can have a drink' - which would tell me that I haven't actually broken any habits at all, but am still just clinging grimly on. If I can manage it I will stay on bootcamp for as long as it takes for me to look at the Bendicks bittermints or the prosecco and think... nah.

aside from my body shape firming up a bit, I'm finally beginning to see all these skin improvements - it's been getting better all along, but today I looked in the mirror and genuinely thought how much healthier I looked. Thank you BIWI and Willie. Thanks

CalamityKate · 27/01/2014 09:13

Thanks captain! :)

LittleMissDisorganized · 27/01/2014 09:16

Morning all,
Also sleepy and in a rush - but I lost nothing last week. After my awesome loss the first week, I was hoping for just a twitch, a pound even. I hopped on the scales twice in the week too and they measured exactly the same. What happened to fluctuation?? No ups, no downs, the same down to the nearest 1/4 pound. But I've lost between 2 and 4 cm off my hips and bottom. All good.

Oh well. Off swimming this morning, really busy weekend by my post-op standards including getting attacked by a revolving door that was going way faster than I could.... silly me for getting into it. Pulled a muscle in my good leg. So I am limping off to the swimming pool for my 2nd swim. Will check back in later, well done to all who lost last week Grin

Whoknowswhocares · 27/01/2014 09:18

Forgive me boot campers, I have sinned. And sinned badly Sad
It started by me kidding myself I could now handle a few carbs (not looking to lose weight, just regulating my eating habits and sugar levels)

By the end of the week I have descended into a pit of sugar and white carbs. I feel terrible. I look bloated.
Tbh I'm scared. I don't know how to eat for maintenance without falling straight back into my old , bad ways.
Dos anyone have any advice or a link to a thread which helps? All I can find so far is the advice to gradually add back carbs, but once I start I can't stop!
Please help Confused

ChesterDrawers · 27/01/2014 09:21

I am feeling a bit pissed off today. I’ve put on 1lb this week and while I know exactly why, I’m thinking this WOE may not be sustainable for me.

Saturday I was 10st 10. I ate BC stuff but drank 3x gin and soda
Sunday was 10st 11. Went out and had sausage and mash (I know), sticky toffee pudding (I know) and three glasses of wine (YES, I KNOW)
Today I am 10st 13.5 Sad

I am not questioning why I’ve gained, I’m just thinking that a diet that is so strict might not be good for me. I like wine and I like gin and I like chocolate and I don’t see how a life without these things is going to work for me.

I have loved the food and feel great but the only reason I am dieting is to lose weight and if that’s not going to happen LCing, then I need to try something else.

This week I’ve got two meals out and the week after one. While this is quite rare (lots of birthdays this time of the year) I know I’ve not got the willpower to do without long-term.

Sorry for the essay, not even sure what I’m expecting. Perhaps someone to tell me what I should do?

HumphreyCobbler · 27/01/2014 09:25

hello everyone

got a bit of sleep last night so feeling better

have to confess I ate an apple and two satsumas yesterday. i won't do it again. v jealous of pseudobadger getting to sleep through!

mirpuppet · 27/01/2014 09:25

ChesterDrawers I look at your weekend and I think the problem isn't gin and chocolate -- it is mash and sticky toffee pudding. Can you give those up for awhile?

WillieWaggledagger · 27/01/2014 09:27

whoknows, what carbs did you start trying to add in?

PseudoBadger · 27/01/2014 09:31

Humphrey - I wish - DS has a cough so he was up!

Whoknowswhocares · 27/01/2014 09:34
Blush The wrong ones. Ie sugar I guess I'm much more addicted than I thought. I find it hard to be strict. When I get a craving my petulant side has a good argument ready! I convince myself that a little won't hurt as I'm not trying to lose weight and that I can't avoid sugar, cakes etc for the rest of my life. Cue foot stamping and 'sod it' attitude taking over Blush
