Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

PS...I know you have mentioned it before, but I can't find it... can someone please direct me to Crabby's recipe blog?
Thank you

Well I can only hope the scales have stayed the same tomorrow. I've had about six g and t's this week. I enjoyed every one. I'm going to cook for the week at work tomorrow day. I can't decide what to have that will taste good three days running. On the upside I have my new fancy knife so I can give the courgette spagetti ago. What do you like with it?

Lighthousekeeping · 02/02/2014 22:01

Does this look ok? I was thinking of adding mushrooms. fitterlondon.co.uk/food/courgette-spaghetti-carbonara-low-carb-high-taste/

HeirToTheIronThrone · 02/02/2014 22:13

I did crumble last weekend - with rhubarb and strawberries - it was lush, with custard made from egg yolks, cream, vanilla and a tiny bit of sweetener.

Good weekend food wise for me but have had a few glasses of red. Also Lidl does a dark chocolate with raspberry bits in which is amazing, managed to restrict myself to 2 squares on Friday night and 2 tonight (and DH has 'helped' by eating most of the rest...)

Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

jill36 · 02/02/2014 22:30

Help! I want to join in and I cant find where I add my name on the spread sheet. Where is Feb 3rd spread sheet please?

LittleMissDisorganized · 02/02/2014 22:36

Woolfey I'll post the taco bake recipe tomorrow night. It's from the Scandinavian Low Carb High Fat cookbook.

I'm guilty of baking, mainly so I could share it with my friend, who hasn't come to stay in almost 2 years, and made a deliberate decision to allow my carb count to rise a little after taking advice about continuous nausea. The chocolate tart had approx 18g almonds and 35g 85% chocolate per serving so maybe 7.5g carbs per serving. It's only once a week. If I start craving sweet stuff or eating lots of it, then it'll have to go.

BIWI · 02/02/2014 22:38

Go to the OP, jill36 and you will see the link to the spreadsheet there. Add your name at the bottom. Or, go to www.mumsnet.com/bootcamp and join bootcamp there

Hey hey, I am super posting in honour of crabby this evening! Massive loves to you crabby, we are all beaming you strength Grin

littlemiss I will always have time for a fellow bootcamper! albeit at odd times occasionally.... Grin Oh it was really shocking last night/yesterday and the day before - I started doing that ridiculous blame game "maybe it was peppermint tea/all the water/too much something/not enough etc etc"

you get the picture. I even had myself convinced at one point that it was due to bending over and scrubbing the floor too much Blush

Anyway, I just kept guzzling water to try and keep it at bay, and it's passed today but I've definitely burned me tubes with it a bit cos it hurts right at the base of my oesophagus when I have a hot drink

ruprekt low carb nachos? what! how?

In other news...
I have scrubbed the entire bastard flat from top to bottom today. My actual fingertips have swollen to twice their original size and I've shredded my knuckles on the other side too, but I don't care cos the place is sparkling! I even pulled all the knobs off the cooker and washed the horrid gunk off them and everything. Then I went completely nuts and finished all of the known laundry I have stopped now as dp is here and I can't stand up anymore. Totally sorted out wardrobe, so I have only got clothes in there which I can actually wear, and I put two bags of 'other' thin clothes in the cupboard under the stairs, to dig out when I've shrunk.

The student has arrived from Libya and he's very sweet, and doesn't eat breakfast and eats dinner out every night! hurray!

Ate weirdly today

yog n cream

a mozzarella

tuna mayo avocado

belly pork /fried kale /steamed broccolli/

4.5l water + several peppermint teas

falls down with exhaustion

jill36 · 02/02/2014 23:27

Hi BIWI I've added my name at the bottom and joined. Looking forward to joining in here tomorrow.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 03/02/2014 06:44

I'm with Crabby on the bleurgh. Even woke up at 5 just so I could fit in feeling bleurgh for longer Hmm. Rubbish week of flood scares, hurt backs, and nasty surprises, culminating in changing a flat tyre in a howling storm and then being charged a vicious amount for a new spare from the only place open on a Saturday evening. AND it looks like I'll have to move in the next four weeks . AND I've put 6 of my 12 lbs back on, with blotchy skin to match.

I've not cheated, not even for a beloved gin, so I'm pointing the finger at cheese. I've eaten far too much this week; probably a cook's matchbox every day, which given I'm still getting through about a litre of double cream a week is probably too much dairy... pah.

I am NOT wavering however, since whichever way I look at it, eating too much cheese will cause weight gain, and cutting out sugar and booze is still a Very Good Thing. Onwards and effing upwards.

No, that'd be me, Precious

Congratulations on the experiments Grin

PseudoBadger · 03/02/2014 07:29

1.8lbs up this week :( BC light clearly doesn't work for me :( back to strict BC...

monkeyfacegrace · 03/02/2014 07:36

Oh this is just all RUBBISH!
I still am bouncing between 162-165lb, and have been for 3 weeks (been LCing since Jan 1st).

Admittedly last week involved lots of wine. Probably 3 bottles spread over the week Blush

And maybe my portions have been too big?

Yesterday,
B: Roast chicken thighs, skin n, salt on top.
L: Courgette spaghetti carbonara, made with an egg, soft cheese, double cream, lardons.
D: Roast ham, cabbage, few carrots, brocolli covered in melted butter.
Snack: Lots of cheddar cheese, prob 150g, and bottle of prosecco Blush

5l fizzy water with Vimto NAS squash, 0.3g carbs per 100ml so not too sinful, prob had 400ml over the day.
Today am going to try so hard.

B: Boiled egg and smoked bacon with butter
L: Left over ham with sprouts and melted butter and salt
D: Caeser salad with cheese and chicken.

NO WINE!

Fed up now Sad

Lovecat · 03/02/2014 07:42

165lb - which means I've lost half a stone to date - not too shabby for 3 weeks of feeling full (to bursting at times) and eating lovely food :)

This week, I am mostly going to be trying to drink more water. I've barely made it over 2 litres most days and some it's been a lot less... Blush . TOM is finally finished so I'm really hoping I'll see a bit of a whoosh - I'm not complaining about the steady 2lb-ish losses, honest, but am slightly Envy about the whoosh... which is madness, isn't it?

Ah well, off to have a BPC...

WillieWaggledagger · 03/02/2014 07:44

monkeyfacegrace - see this from the OP:

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

also the alcohol won't help Wink

teaandthorazine · 03/02/2014 07:47

grace, your body will burn the alcohol before it burns the fat, so if you are drinking a fair amount every week (3 bottles of wine and a bottle of prosecco?) then you're not giving yourself a chance to lose anything.

DurhamDurham · 03/02/2014 07:55

Well I have stayed the same, not too gutted as BIW said it would come off slowly as I have under a stone to loose, added to that I was out for dinner for my mums's birthday and probably negated any weight I may have lost in that one meal alone. It was worth it though, as lovely supportive people have reminded me....I ate mindfully and enjoyed every single mouthful Grin

Bugsylugs · 03/02/2014 07:59

2lb down so 6lb in total pretty pleased. I use the Wii fit and have found it must round to nearest figure which I did not realise as if you go to the graph it gives you the actual figures which actually has me at a pound less overall so have gone for the lowest weight loss.

Had a Chinese takeaway on Sat used a new place read it as rice included when it arrived no rice. Re read rice not included so everyone did a partial low carb magic.

Having a couple of days off as going to Chester today for a stay will enjoy ourselves but make good choices for breakfast and enjoy the rest, then back on it Tues pm.

Hope everyone has a good week.

SayraT · 03/02/2014 08:15

First attempt at a crabby super reply Grin

Hi jill welcome to bootcamp, I'm sure you will have fun here. I'm new too but there are plenty of experienced bootcampers who are very helpful and will try and answer any questions you have.

calamity and stunt I weigh every day but I try to be good and put the actual weigh in day weight on. I didn't one week cause scales said I'd gone back up to my bootcamp day one weight Confused

kotinka well done on the inches lost, I wish now I'd measured myself (sure I will have measurements somewhere from some diet Grin) because I can feel the difference in my clothes. I'm sure the scales will catch up soon.

tea I'm going to look out for those flavoured linseeds you mentioned, do you remember what flavours they were? I hope my Lidl have them, I made linseed coated salmon the other week which was yummy.

ruprekt Low card nachos?! Sounds interesting....

crabby sorry you are feeling rubbish, hope you are feeling better soon Thanks. How many people are now doing "super reply" because of you?

Nell I made crumble (not crabbys but I imagine its the same (not seen her recipe. Note to self: must find crabbys blog) I just put fruit in dish and covered with a topping of ground almonds rubbed into butter

Lovecat thanks for the link ^see above Grin

littlemiss I hope that increasing your carbs helps, can't be nice feeling ill all the time. Chocolate tart sounds good, I'm trying to keep things like that in mind for when I have people over so that I can feel them things they don't realise are low carb (until they spit it out cause they can't cope with the no sugar Grin)

Trashcan well done on your super clean...I on the other hand ran out of washing up liquid so haven't washed any dishes since Friday Blush my house is a tip. The window cleaner came the other day which means he knows what a slob I am.

Well done to everyone who has lost this week and to those who sts or gained...try not to worry about what the scales say.

I am 1 lb heavier than I was yesterday but 1 lb lighter than last week meaning a total loss of 10 lbs since I started on 6th January, my face looks like this Grin

Todays menu:

B: Coffee with cream
L: Chicken breast with salad
D: Not decided will see what I get in Lidl maybe pork belly slices

Kefybaby · 03/02/2014 08:16

Monkey, I feel the same way. After a good loss in week one, the loss has been slow and today (beginning of week 5 for me) I seem to be back at square one. Sad I have stuck to the rules with the exception of some chocolate on Friday night and a few glasses of wine on Friday and last night (also a tiny bit of melon and mango). I feel so bloated, apart from everything else. I am losing all motivation but will stick to this for another week and see what happens.

BIWI · 03/02/2014 08:25

"I have stuck to the rules with the exception of some chocolate on Friday night and a few glasses of wine on Friday and last night (also a tiny bit of melon and mango)"

Chocolate and wine and fruit will be too many carbs.

And if you're bloated, then that would suggest that you're not drinking enough water.

The rules are there for a reason!

LittleMissDisorganized · 03/02/2014 08:29

Sayra she loved it, the main and pudding. How I behave with the 3/4 of a chocolate tart that is leftover when I want to be back to BC light will show whether I should just have made a few little ones.
Will post both recipes once off my phone.

I'm down half a lb this morning, was lower midweek, evidence of what BC light does. And woken up with a sore throat and viral aches. Oh joy - paracetamol and on with the day. Nausea unaffected by carbs - and I'm in this for the long haul, so going to give it time (whilst probably still wibbling here on a frequent basis!)

bugsy I'll wave, you aren't far from me, have a lovely time :)

Have a good day all!!
