Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

Good day today despite my earlier wobbles. I've read lots on this WOE over the years and know it's the best way to go but I am the worlds biggest self sabatuer and that's something I need to overcome.

Today was:
B: nothing - feeling sorry for myself
L: broccoli and Stilton soup, coffee with cream
D: LC sausages, roast broccoli, cheesy cauli mash

Really going to try to get my arse out to early morning spinning tomorrow. Not been for over a week - bad!

Thanks Flowers to everyone who replied to my moans today. Normal service has been resumed for the time being.

Whoknows - Dr John Briffa's book "Escape the Diet Trap" is the best one - easy to read and very informative.

Oh CRABBY book me a table NOW at your low carb cafe!

OMG Humphrey your poor DS!

Whoknows really interesting about the mental challenges of maintaining - that is what I want to do after this bootcamp. I think I only want to add 2 things to my diet - Toast and Chocolate. (sorry Atkins carb ladder!!) I will be interested to see if that's possible without igniting rabid cravings. I realise already they will both still have to be Not Every Day.

GermanGirl yes apparently your period can mean you show less weightloss on the scales, you are probably retaining water. That's me this week too - I had a 0.4lb loss but maybe it will be slightly more once the period is over.

Notsoold and zenzero welcome welcome indeed.

NotTwit I've put you on the spreadsheet. You've still lost 3.8% of your body weight in 2 weeks!

zgaze that sounds really terrible, but I don't think it is a result of what you are eating. It sounds like you have a virus/bug/infection/fever of some kind and you need to go to the doctor?

LittleMiss so sorry you're having such a tough time - but really well done for your recovery with good food on Saturday.

One the the teaching assistants at school said "wow you've lost a load of weight - how did you do it" to me today. Always nice....

Posting quickly before surrendering to bed... I'm spent! Scales moved UP 1lb, not to worried, it was my third weekon BC and it means I've lost 5lbs since 6th Jan. Coming to TOTM too, and not as regular as I would like to be yet.

I do feel lighter, clothes are looser, some ill fitting skirts are now OK. Got dancing rings!

Keeping on BC with a bit of sparkly, low alcohol wine, not feeling deprived food-wise, so I'm not iching to add food stuffs.

Well done those of you losing, and well done those of you not losing too. You are keeping the faith and doing it without the incentive of seeing the scales move... I salute you all Thanks

Hello. Checking into the thread for the first time in a while. I have to admit to being a bit naughty over the weekend. It's obvious from the scales as I've only lost 1lb in the last two weeks. I will try much harder this week I promise. This thread is like my conscience!

Also, I appear to have entered my weight in the SoF incorrectly the last two weeks. I've corrected it now, historically. I hope that doesn't screw anything up (I wasn't in the running for any accolades anyway though!!!).

Today:
B: 2 eggs/butter
L: spinach soup
D: salad, leftover chicken and some mince, courgette chips.

Just before I go to bed, I forgot to record my measurements. All have remained the same except my waist, which is

2 inches smaller at 36 inches!

What wonderful witchcraft is this?

I'm also fairly certain I've lost off my face - I had a double chin you could hide a walrus in over Christmas, now there's not so much there at all. People have started commenting that I'm losing weight, so it must be noticeable... :o

hey every one!

my snack and dinner today were

ham and philly with some olives

FRIED salmon with fried kale and mayo plus grated cheddar.

final water count 4.5 litres plus mint teas. Is is really ok to drink this much water? My friend is lovely but unsupportive of my WOE, and was questioning the water intake - she's claiming I could rinse away all of the minerals in my cells and become poorly. I don't feel poorly, I feel great, but I wonder if you can drink too much water, and if so, how much is that?

BIWI I've taken your advice to a pp and have downloaded Briffa onto my kindle. The only low carb reading I've done was Atkins almost ten years ago (did lose five stone then!) and I read a few bits and bobs about paleo and got into that right at the end when I was a sleek and slender 10 stone!

Tomorrow I'll post my whole meals in one go - less fractured then. And at some point I may even get it together to converse with other posters as opposed to just shouting my shit at the whole thread in general! I'm reading every post, but not quite marrying up posters with their posts Blush It's a bit like reading game of thrones and forgetting which characters are who! I feel like I have hundreds of new friends though, and I really do cherish you all, and feel so privileged to be on this journey with you Thanks

Morning all.... Wow some fab losses here and the inches lost is also v inspiring.

I am 1lb down... Yay! Another week of BC proper for me!

Sorry I can't remember all names, but this might help some of the questions ^^

Re: a rash... I get this if diet is sugar heavy, or after a night of wine, on this WOE I get it if I have too much vinegary/fermented food, like mayo, olives, salami or processed meat, capers ... And yoghurt. Cutting these foods and drinking more water definitely helps.

Re: books/advice try zoe harcombe who talks first hand at beating the sugar demons. Although her WOE involves squash, brown rice and other carby veg her 5 day plan can be adapted for this WOE. I found her v helpful to understand my cravings and lovely recipes.

Also the ZH anti candida plan is v good for anyone who thinks dairy might be stalling them and she explains to a tee why no caffeine helps stick to this WOE... Caffeine triggers hormone response which causes cravings...

A having some lovely tips from this thread, can't check in much as work doesn't let me MN. Today will be

B Frittata with leek and cream cheese blobs (delicious)
L cream of celeriac soup with swede and celeriac croutons
S. celery, cucumber, pâté
D. Cold roat beef and mixed green veg stir fried in garlic butter
Am up to 3.5l water during the day helped by adding some chunks of ginger to the jug

Trashcan, it is possible to get into trouble with your salts if you drink too much water, though I think that this is likely to be around double what you are drinking now! You need to make sure you add salt to your food and keep potassium levels up as well as sodium - salmon, avocado and the disgusting lo-salt are all high in them, or you could drink bouillon with hot water for the same effect. I am at work for the next 3 days and would expect to drink around 3-4l each day (and have done for about 10 years at work, even without LC) and I've not had a problem.

Obviously I am not a Dr but I have found it to be beneficial anyway (clear skin, less bloating etc) and it is essential to LC weight loss.

I got a blotchy rash around my chest / neck yesterday immediately after eating NLY. I used to get it all the time, but it had stopped. I also stopped eating Yeo valley NLY for bootcamp. I wonder if that's what it is? Will have to do another trial in a few days.

Morning, I went off the rails last night with a chocolate muffin, followed by another chocolate muffin and a packet of crisps. :(

I picked myself up and had a low carb dinner and another couple of pints of water and went to bed at 7pm.

Today is a fresh start and I need to plan a low carb snack for when we get in from school.

RatherBeOnThePiste Had cramp in my calf and really sore norks last night.

Cramp is probably salt imbalance.
My boobs have been incredibly sore in the run up to TOTM (fine afterwards). I keep seeing things about this WOE increasing circulating oestrogen so maybe that's why?

Report
MrsPnut · 28/01/2014 06:58

Trashcan you can have problems from drinking too much water but it would have to be in the region of a litre an hour. Drinking 4 or 5 litres a day is fine so long as it is spread out and natural salts are replaced during eating.

Report
MrsPnut · 28/01/2014 06:59

Four arms - that's because oestrogen is stored in fat cells, we're burning the fat so releasing oestrogen into our blood streams.

Report
RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/01/2014 07:05

Am in the run up to my period, tis true, but don't normally get sore, certainly not like this, interesting what you say about the increased oestrogen. Hopefully it will settle down!

Yy salt imbalance, have been so thirsty again, so still not got that bit right.

TrashCan if you're drinking normally, i.e. from a glass or bottle in sips and gulps, not standing at the sink downing a couple of pints in one go, then you can't 'wash away' the minerals from your cells. I find I need to eat more salt on this WOE and I use Lo-Salt (for potassium), iodised salt (for iodine) and a sea salt which contains calcium and magnesium in order to make sure I'm getting plenty of minerals in my diet. Your friend may be getting confused with water intoxication which occurs when endurance athletes upset their electrolyte balance through excessive exercise combined with rapid fluid replacement. Unless you're planning to run a marathon then you should be fine!

Now getting horrid taste in my mouth all the time, no amount of brushing teeth or mouthwash seems to get rid of it. I think I read somewhere that drinking loads of water may help, so will try and up my water intake and see if that gets rid of this horrid chemical taste.
Only 1lb down, but overall loss is good so will keep on muttering to myself "the Trend is my Friend" - good points are I've now stopped craving sweet stuff and I'm only getting hungry at meal times.
Great to be in control of my eating at last.

Report
BIWI · 28/01/2014 07:33

That horrid taste is a very good sign, sheoneill! If nothing else works, try some sugar-free gum or mints. It's only temporary and will/should soon pass
