Low-carb bootcamp

Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

Thanks Crabby Smile I will hop over to other thread, let the fightback against the dreaded bread begin!

Hi Mistress and welcome. There's a chat thread for each week and we're now on Week 6 so come and join us over
here and everyone will be pleased to answer your questions.

I struggle with the bread thing too, as I don't think there is any decent low carb substitute. I just have to resist the temptation! Some people make something called oopsie rolls but I haven't tried those. It helps that on the occasions when I do have bread I notice that it's often stodgy and a bit tasteless and it makes me bloat noticeably afterwards.

Hi all, Ive been spying on this thread for ages now, and getting some good inspiration.

Ive tried low carb in the past a couple of times but fallen off the wagon, now determined to give it another go as I know it works. But...I have SUCH a weakness for bread! Well, bread and potatoes but bread is my nemesis. Are there any suggestions on how to break the habit/a good substitution? I have teens and they like their bread so I have to have it in the house...but it calls to me...

Im looking at the 'good alcohol' list up there...umm...the occasional whiskey & diet coke, is that a baddie?

I too was careless and posted here: I'd carefully come on here to find the new thread, clicked on the link but then also clicked on the spreadsheet link to put in my three digit weight and when I shut down the spreadsheet didn't realsie I had gone back to the original tab Blush

Woohoo - 10st 8lb - back into the 3 digits territory! Grin and within spitting distance of my current month's (ambitious) target of being 10stone 7lb or better (month ends next Monday) :)

Had lots of water yesterday to mitigate the pasta, wine and apple pie last night at my dad's.

Felt really good today so far food wise despite having a nasty argument with dh first thing in the morning and we're currently not talking - didn't reach for the chocolate! Grin.

Breakfast: yoghurt and cream plus cinnamon
Lunch: coleslaw, salami and 3 slices of strong cheddar cheese
Dinner: pork belly (pre-prepared from Lidl - had a quite high carb count but I reckon that was mostly from the honey glaze that yuo put on separately so I'll just throw out the wee bag) with, probably, buttery savoy cabbage and brussel sprouts (I might be nice to ds and swap one of them for creamy leeks)

BIWI I can list out what I’ve eaten but I don’t think it’s going to help. I know full well where I am going wrong – I seem to have one day a week where I cheat and that sets me back to where I was a month ago.

Friday (this was my bad day, but rare to eat like this)
B: Total, cream
L: Chicken soup and a slice of wholemeal bread (at a friend’s house so tricky)
D: Meal out – eek…
Starter: Prosciutto, mozzarella and fig salad,
Main: Slow roast pork, creamed cabbage, mouthful of dauphinoise potato, about half a dozen onion rings
Dessert: Sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream (us low carbers need our salt)
To drink: several G&Ts, half a bottle of wine, a brandy coffee, a mojito and half a margarita

Saturday
Brunch: Eggs, bacon, mushrooms
Late lunch: chunk of cheese, four parmesan shortbreads (50g almonds)
D: Steak, swede chips, creamy mushrooms, two big wines

Sunday
B: Eggs, bacon, mushrooms
Late lunch: four parmesan shortbreads (50g almonds), coffee with cream
D: slow cooked beef shin, swede mash, cauli cheese, rest of bottle of wine from Saturday, coffee with cream

So it doesn’t take Poirot to suss out where I am going wrong. Too many carbs, too much booze, and probably too much dairy

And to top it all, today I’ve had:
B: black coffee and a lick of my wounds
L: M&S rice and prawn salad, full fat greek yog and blueberries

So completely un-bootcamp today now. Sigh, if you can help me then I’ll be glad to listen, but I fear I am a lost cause. I want to lose weight so badly but stick me in an environment where I have choice, like a meal out or eating at a friend’s, and I lose the plot every time.

Alcohol is allowed, but only in moderation. And there are lots of carbs in wine. Vodka/gin/rum with sparkling water is the best thing to drink - no carbs.

Biwi, isn't wine allowed in BC light? And also some fruit (ok, clearly the fruit I had was the wrong type Blush)?
Keep shouting at me, though. Somehow it helps!

Well done! Make sure you're really familiar with the rules - and have a good read of this week 3 thread, to prepare yourself for when the weight loss slows down.

(And don't get obsessed with daily weighing!)

Sayra she loved it, the main and pudding. How I behave with the 3/4 of a chocolate tart that is leftover when I want to be back to BC light will show whether I should just have made a few little ones.
Will post both recipes once off my phone.

I'm down half a lb this morning, was lower midweek, evidence of what BC light does. And woken up with a sore throat and viral aches. Oh joy - paracetamol and on with the day. Nausea unaffected by carbs - and I'm in this for the long haul, so going to give it time (whilst probably still wibbling here on a frequent basis!)

bugsy I'll wave, you aren't far from me, have a lovely time :)

Have a good day all!!

"I have stuck to the rules with the exception of some chocolate on Friday night and a few glasses of wine on Friday and last night (also a tiny bit of melon and mango)"

Chocolate and wine and fruit will be too many carbs.

And if you're bloated, then that would suggest that you're not drinking enough water.

The rules are there for a reason!

Monkey, I feel the same way. After a good loss in week one, the loss has been slow and today (beginning of week 5 for me) I seem to be back at square one. Sad I have stuck to the rules with the exception of some chocolate on Friday night and a few glasses of wine on Friday and last night (also a tiny bit of melon and mango). I feel so bloated, apart from everything else. I am losing all motivation but will stick to this for another week and see what happens.

First attempt at a crabby super reply Grin

Hi jill welcome to bootcamp, I'm sure you will have fun here. I'm new too but there are plenty of experienced bootcampers who are very helpful and will try and answer any questions you have.

calamity and stunt I weigh every day but I try to be good and put the actual weigh in day weight on. I didn't one week cause scales said I'd gone back up to my bootcamp day one weight Confused

kotinka well done on the inches lost, I wish now I'd measured myself (sure I will have measurements somewhere from some diet Grin) because I can feel the difference in my clothes. I'm sure the scales will catch up soon.

tea I'm going to look out for those flavoured linseeds you mentioned, do you remember what flavours they were? I hope my Lidl have them, I made linseed coated salmon the other week which was yummy.

ruprekt Low card nachos?! Sounds interesting....

crabby sorry you are feeling rubbish, hope you are feeling better soon Thanks. How many people are now doing "super reply" because of you?

Nell I made crumble (not crabbys but I imagine its the same (not seen her recipe. Note to self: must find crabbys blog) I just put fruit in dish and covered with a topping of ground almonds rubbed into butter

Lovecat thanks for the link ^see above Grin

littlemiss I hope that increasing your carbs helps, can't be nice feeling ill all the time. Chocolate tart sounds good, I'm trying to keep things like that in mind for when I have people over so that I can feel them things they don't realise are low carb (until they spit it out cause they can't cope with the no sugar Grin)

Trashcan well done on your super clean...I on the other hand ran out of washing up liquid so haven't washed any dishes since Friday Blush my house is a tip. The window cleaner came the other day which means he knows what a slob I am.

Well done to everyone who has lost this week and to those who sts or gained...try not to worry about what the scales say.

I am 1 lb heavier than I was yesterday but 1 lb lighter than last week meaning a total loss of 10 lbs since I started on 6th January, my face looks like this Grin

Todays menu:

B: Coffee with cream
L: Chicken breast with salad
D: Not decided will see what I get in Lidl maybe pork belly slices

2lb down so 6lb in total pretty pleased. I use the Wii fit and have found it must round to nearest figure which I did not realise as if you go to the graph it gives you the actual figures which actually has me at a pound less overall so have gone for the lowest weight loss.

Had a Chinese takeaway on Sat used a new place read it as rice included when it arrived no rice. Re read rice not included so everyone did a partial low carb magic.

Having a couple of days off as going to Chester today for a stay will enjoy ourselves but make good choices for breakfast and enjoy the rest, then back on it Tues pm.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Well I have stayed the same, not too gutted as BIW said it would come off slowly as I have under a stone to loose, added to that I was out for dinner for my mums's birthday and probably negated any weight I may have lost in that one meal alone. It was worth it though, as lovely supportive people have reminded me....I ate mindfully and enjoyed every single mouthful Grin

teaandthorazine · 03/02/2014 07:47

grace, your body will burn the alcohol before it burns the fat, so if you are drinking a fair amount every week (3 bottles of wine and a bottle of prosecco?) then you're not giving yourself a chance to lose anything.
