Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

That's what I do Calamity Wink ssssh don't tell BIWI!

Notsoskinnyminny · 02/02/2014 14:08

Got to kettlecise only to find the class started an hour earlier - time change on bookface but I don't use it except for stalking DD now she's at uni and laughing at pics of ex-H and my friend who booked me on doesn't either. Its too late to drive to the beach with psychopup so I'm going to put my wellies on and take her for a long walk before tackling the ironing.

Stunt and Calamity I feel like doing the same as I'm now only 1/4lb lighter than last week but I've lost another 2.5" since last Sunday Smile so will post whatever the scales say in the morning.

BTW blueberries are on offer in aldi - 69p a pack

GrumpyCrossPatch · 02/02/2014 14:20

I'm really sorry, I haven't mastered the Crabby super reply yet so in the best tradition of shouting my shit, who was struggling with their runs?

I struggled for the first couple of weeks - it was like wading through treacle and I felt crashingly tired, headachey and shite for the rest of the day. A couple of posters (BIWI and I think Steel-Eye) really encouraged me to stick with it and I now find that the first mile is tough on my legs but then I can run and run and feel good for the rest of the day. I have relaxed the rules on vegetable inclusion and eat some berries most days. I'm not sure if I have it right as I will weigh tomorrow! It might be worth going BC light though if you are still BCing and see if that helps.

Water and fat, water and fat Wink

CalamityKate · 02/02/2014 14:56

Stuntnun - but really all we're doing is what we're told to do; ignore the fluctuations and concentrate on the trend!

CalamityKate · 02/02/2014 14:57

Nice lunch of courgetti, green pesto and grated cheese. Mmmm.

I was inspired to have pizza for lunch following all this talk about it. However, I was feeling too lazy to faff about making a cauli base. I cut a pepper into quarters so they lay flat, microwaved for 5 mins, smeared on a little tomato purée, added some chopped up frankfurter and topped with mozzarella.

It was so good I made another two peppers. The peppers were firm enough to give a satisfyingly pizza-y mouthfeel.

I'm drinking loads of water today after having a baked sweet potato yesterday and a bit of balsamic salad dressing. I did avoid croissants, hot cross buns, white baked potato, fizzy drinks, fruit salad and chocolate cheesecake though. They just didn't tempt me yesterday, looked like carby crap that wouldn't taste very nice.

I deliberately didn't buy ground almonds today. The upthread mention of almond pancakes and almond pastry chocolate tart are very tempting to me because they're not carby crap but I'm sure I'd just scoff the lot in the same way I used to with normal desserts. Has anyone found themselves doing that?

seri, I really try to avoid baking anything vaguely 'low carb' too. I do have almond flour but would prefer to just avoid all cakey, puddingy stuff, full stop.

Have had a picky day, mostly low carb. Ds is poorly so we've been in front of the tv most of the day. I've had two bulletproof coffees (first just with coconut oil and cream, the second I plucked up courage to put in butter as well - was delicious!) and just eaten some cold curry leftover from last night. Why is it always so much better the next day?!

But have also had a plum, the crusts of ds's fruit toast and a couple of small pieces of dried mango. Quite unusual for me to be tempted by fruit!

Probably won't have much for dinner later - maybe some yoghurt and double cream, with some linseeds. Lidl are doing a range of different flavoured linseeds - they're around 13-18g carb per 100g but I only need a couple of teaspoonfuls.

ChesterDrawers · 02/02/2014 16:48

Seri I'm not great with bingeing either, but bought some ground almonds yesterday to make Parmesan shortbread. I made them today and yesterday and have eaten half a portion each time. It's not loads of carbs but I'd rather not be that way. They were lunch both times, but even so, I totally understand what you mean.

On another note today I turned down ice cream van ice cream, which I love. TBH I wasn't that bothered so did without while DS and DH scoffed away.

Ruprekt · 02/02/2014 17:29

I cannot low carb bake either or I would scoff the lot.

Had creamy coffee for breakfast.

Lunch was cream cheese coconut pancakes with dbl cream.SmileSmile

Dinner is low carb Mexican Nacho Attack!SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Seri77 · 02/02/2014 17:54

Well I'm glad it's not just me. I was very stressed just before Christmas and was eating 2 Danish pastries and 3 white bagels with cream cheese or butter every morning and still feeling not satisfied. That was my wake up call where I realised I had to go back to low carb and stay there.

I think once I'm back to normal BMI I will still have the occasional piece of cake/dessert when eating out as there is portion control, but I won't be able to have multiples of such things in the house.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/02/2014 17:59

I agree about avoiding baking. I am shite anyway but my DC do like things like flapjacks and brownies. Easier not to make at the mo.

Was out this morning with no real loo stops so only started watering myself on return. Still a way to go. And way tmi but period is here and feeling bleeeeugh and wishing for carbs.

Maybe an early night for me.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 02/02/2014 18:53

I have not even the energy to do a 'super reply' Grin. Am feeling rubbish today, for unknown reasons. Been feeling a bit escalatingly crap the last couple of days and today am feeling both physically and mentally/emotionally bleugh. Don't know why - I rarely know why.

Food today
B/L - leftover steak with celeriac and mushroom sauce (small portion) followed by berry crumble with clotted cream
S - fried halloumi cheese
D - just about to have roast chicken with swede mash, brocolli and brussels sprouts, gravy
P - if I have any it will be more crumble
Red wine, despite weakly resolving to drink minimally tonight due to current low feeling. Hmm
Quite a lot of water. Must start measuring.

Hope everyone's had a lovely weekend.

Lovecat · 02/02/2014 19:02

(((Crabby))) Thanks It sounds like everything's caught up with you - you've been so busy and had quite an emotional week of it. Be kind to yourself and hope you feel better soon x

I'm halfway through making a raspberry cheesecake (LC) and we are ringing out for an Indian, as I didn't get it together this morning to make the Kashmiri Chicken for the slowcooker. Just back from the cinema where I resisted the lure of the world's biggest bag of pick n' mix (cheers DH Hmm) and popcorn. Sipped water throughout, so am feeling virtuous and deserving of putting my feet up for a curry :) Thanks all for the tips on this and previous threads re. the right things to order.

sybilfaulty · 02/02/2014 19:07

Oh Crabby, so sorry you are feeling low. Look after yourself and try to take it easy. It's been a huge week so no wonder you are feeling it now. Take care.

We've had too many guests this weekend and I've had too much booze. Food OK but I hope the booze hasn't ruined it all. I have a quiet week with no going out at all in prospect so will have a chance to make it up and drink lots of water. Am feeling rather throaty with really sore ears so am hoping that passes off soon.

Hope everyone has had a good week and good luck for weighing tomorrow. I weigh on Tuesdays so will report back then.

SteeleyeStan · 02/02/2014 19:10

Evening all. No super reply here either, though my rubbish feelings today all gin related. Gin was not a smart idea.

Have eaten:
B: alka-seltzer and coffee with coconut oil.
L: two fried eggs, avocado, two pieces of chocolate
D: a bit of chicken with creamy mushroom sauce and broccoli.

I hope you're all okay and those not will feel better; and I hope the scales are your friend tomorrow!

EvaTheOptimist · 02/02/2014 19:12

Oooo Crabby a new entry on your food blog! Hurrah. It looks lovely.

LittleMiss I think your Sat and Sun menus look fine, though I'm no expert. Hope you're feeling better.

Welcome Jill! Yes do just add your name at the bottom of the spreadsheet, Willie will do the rest.

Calamity I weigh every morning for the same reason, so I can watch the fluctuations and not get too alarmed by them - and its comforting to know the "most-recent-lowest-weight" even when you are back up again from it! (I do always just put my honest Monday weight though!...). Your lunch sounded yum!

Seri I'm not baking anything with crushed almonds because - well firstly I'm not much of a chef... and secondly yes I think I would scoff lots and reverse my trends!

Ruprekt · 02/02/2014 20:17

I made Crabby's Crumble! SmileSmile

Bag frozen berries, topping of coconut flour, butter and gr almonds.

Baked. Delicious. Grin

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 02/02/2014 20:31

Crabby- as lovecat says, it sounds like everything's catching up with you. Take it easy and do something for you.

Shouting shit: I've has a shitty evening with overtired toddlers. I'm on my own as my OH is on nights and it's too far to come back in the day so I will be watching our homeland box set and not doing the work that I was supposed to be doing. I can recommend it!

B: left over meatballs. Mascapone, raspberries and 6 almonds. Have decided to stuff yoghurt - prefer mascapone!
L: 3 egg, shallot, tomato and mushroom scramble in butter, salad and mayo. 4 Blush squares lindt 85%
D: cauli crust pizza - a fail in this house sadly. Didn't have chance to make any veg as I had unexpected visitors close to tea-time and the kids screamed at me from the minute they left until bed. I was gong to have a salad later but I CBA now.

Water: gone to pot (ho ho ho…) I think I've had 4l ish but too little throughout the second half of the day and I can feel it.

NellVarnish · 02/02/2014 20:44

Crabby Thanks

Just pinned your crumble, looks delish, why have I got no coconut flour in?

Feeling a bit meh, not enough water today, fighting off the urge for sweet stuff all day, got the Sunday Night Blues. So tempted to bake. And eat it all. I don't think I'm EVER going to break my Sugary Twat Habit. :(

Good luck to everyone with weigh ins tomorrow or Tuesday sybil.

goodasitgets · 02/02/2014 21:09

I started back LC 12 days or so ago and haven't weighed in (as my scales are crap)
So I'm at the gynae doctor tomorrow, I know how much I was when I was weighed there about 3 weeks ago so I'm going to ask to be weighed

Ambassadoryouarespoilingme · 02/02/2014 21:15

hi all
I've just come back from a girls weekend near York. It was delicious on all fronts: four old friends in a cottage, without kids or partners, long walk in the very cold countryside.... but on the downside, loads of wine was consumed and a little bit of bread. We were nowhere near a shop and without a car so i did my best to LC but did succumb to the wine (in a big way!). But I'll weigh in tomorrow and have to pay the penalty. I've also been dragging myself through this cold / throat infection which is doing the rounds, so very little running has been going on.
I hope you are mainly all feeling inspired to carry on: I know we're all having our ups and downs but in the long run, taking good care of ourselves can only be a good thing, physically and mentally.

Ruprekt · 02/02/2014 21:17

Crabby didn't put coconut flour in hers but I wanted to try it.
