Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

And I'm freezing.

googoogoggles · 31/01/2014 13:16

Echo thanks for the Briffa link Crabby

I've been fluctuating between same two pounds as well for ages. Seems to have dipped a teeny bit further this morning but am not yet sure whether to trust it's not going to shoot up again. Repeat:
"The trend is my friend... The trend is my friend..."

LittleMissDisorganized · 31/01/2014 13:34

Hi everyone, having a very weird day but back to that in a minute
trashcan love the description of the hunger-brain-intestines, I too feel hunger differently, CalamityKate said something similar yesterday. Really good but strange.
Crabby I am very glad you have someone to cuddle :) I met my uncle's 11 week Newfoundland today - like an excitable-cuddly-bear-toddler-dog, and this from someone who doesn't like dogs!
Gerry you sound in a fab place. It's really encouraging.

I'm still struggling with pervasive nausea, will post qn on the questions thread. In between my moaning about feeling ill, I feel great. But the nausea is hanging around. Am meant to be writing a job application this afternoon, so naturally I am distracting myself with plenty of other things. I'm a lb down this week, that'll do, and definitely changing in my tummy etc - though it is all wobbly now rather than solid fat and the skin is covered in stretchmarks, yeeurgh. Has anyone that's lost a couple/ few stone had skin issues afterwards??

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 31/01/2014 14:03

Thanks littlemiss. Interested to hear answers about excess skin. Planning on getting to 11st from 17 (2 gone already, only one from BC). 11mo dd means I have many recentish stretch marks on my tummy, and I think probably some very old ones all over my legs. When I think about the saggy bits afterwards, it almost makes me want to stay overweight. It actually really scares me.

captainmummy · 31/01/2014 14:18

That's the thing about losing weight slowly, though. Your skin is an amazing organ, stretchy and tight at the same time. Lose slowly, and hyour skin will have more chance to ping back with you - lose overnight and that skin is not going to go anywhere!

Imatot - sounds like you are well in ketosis- adapted to burning fat for fuel now, and the fat you are eating will fill you up quicker than carbs. Lack of appetite is a good sign. Are you eating enough carbs tho - there is little sign of veg in your food?

MrsHughJarse · 31/01/2014 14:23

I know it is so annoying - but I find it really best to only weigh once a week ( not hard for me at mo - as my house in total upheaval with the builders - and I can't even find the scales !)
Trend is our friend ?Brew for you in absence of carby moodlifter.

MrsHughJarse · 31/01/2014 14:30

phone glitch - sorry all - was replying to hope ages ago

WillieWaggledagger · 31/01/2014 14:35

the skin thing is very personal - depends on age, speed of weight gain/loss, genetics etc (not helpful, sorry)

i think that this WOE is probably a good bet in that respect, because you're drinking plenty of water, eating fat and protein etc and all the things your skin needs so it will be as good as it can be iyswim

they say you need to spend years at your goal weight after weight loss to really know how saggy/wrinkly it's going to be, because as captainmummy says it needs time to adapt

either way, it honestly feels better to be a weight you're comfortable with and have some saggy skin than to feel uncomfortably overweight. i have a history of eating disorders and have been both very overweight and very underweight. this was during my teenage/young adult years so skin was more adaptable, but i do still have some bits that are saggier than they would have been if i hadn't had the weight changes (i haven't had children). these are improving with time and exercise - i didn't start doing exercise beyond walking until i'd lost quite a bit of weight

as i've come to be more comfortable with myself i'm more comfortable with my body's 'faults' too. while i do have moments of being angry with myself for the perceived 'damage' i've done, more and more often the 'scars' make me feel quite affectionate towards my body. i've put it through so much and still it performs for me as well as it can, it has loyally kept going despite my best efforts to starve it / overfeed it / punish it, and the stretchmarks/loose skin remind me of that a bit

sorry - probably a bit heavy and me-me-me!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 31/01/2014 14:49

Captain - veg isn't usually an issue - the two examples I've given are for my eating next to nothing days - where there's not much of anything at all.

I'm just not hungry.

LittleMissDisorganized · 31/01/2014 14:52

No, that's very helpful, thank you. I've had a section so the overhang type shape is more pronounced. I had a preterm small baby so the stretching then was much less of an issue.
With the incredible life and limb saving plus reconstructive scarring over both my legs... I get you on scarring, as well.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 31/01/2014 15:28

NVM, it's a stomach bug. Vom.

CalamityKate · 31/01/2014 16:03

B - scrambled eggs w butter
L - creamy parmesany chicken with avocado and mayo and salad
S - a couple of tsp of clotted cream, a square of 85% choc and a creamy coffee.

I love this "diet"

DurhamDurham · 31/01/2014 16:15

Oh no!! Took my mum out for birthday treat today. We went to Malmaison and I was determined to be good.....until I saw the menu.

We had a massage each ( I had to pop to the loo half way through mine thanks to consuming litres of water ) and then went to have lunch. I tried to minimise the damage but it was still pretty bad.

I had poached salmon and cauliflower fritters to start followed by bacon, chicken and butter bean cassoulet. I then had chocolate ( milk chocolate !!) coated strawberries. And a cappuccino. And a glass of champagne.

Have I ruined the last month!!!

WillieWaggledagger · 31/01/2014 16:23

no durham you haven't

was it delicious? did you enjoy every mouthful?

that sounds like the perfect opportunity to go mindfully off-plan and enjoy food that doesn't come along very often

just be aware that you may put on a little weight - that's ok, it's just your glycogen stores replenishing, and after a couple of days on the wagon you will be back to normal. also, you may experience carb cravings as well as blood sugar drop, so have something easy and low carb to hand just in case. drink plenty of water and have a couple of very strict days, you will be fine

all that said, your choices actually sound pretty good under the circumstances - higher carb than normal but not, you know, pizza and cake

DurhamDurham · 31/01/2014 16:34

Ah Willie I enjoyed every single mouthful, as did my mum. It was such a treat. I will take your fine advice and try not to get disheartened if ( when! ) I put on weight on and start low carbing with a vengeance!! Grin

Piscivorus · 31/01/2014 16:56

Littlemiss I lost 2 1/2 stone on my first bootcamp and was getting concerned about loose skin as my tummy had gone very soft and sunk southwards. In the year since that I have lost another stone yet I am probably firmer now than then (although firm is a very fluid concept in the Pisc household!) I think Willie is right that it is very individual although I do think the high fat in this diet helps improve our chances.

I am in my 50s and have been very overweight for 20+ years so don't expect to escape unscathed. I will just invest in sturdy knickers and tuck it all in Grin

Zenzero · 31/01/2014 17:11

Argh, struggling a bit today! Feeling a bit better than yesterday but still not totally better and haven't really eaten much over the last couple of days and now just really want to eat pizza or toast or something!!

I'm resisting though...well just about, I did succumb to a few blueberries and pecans in yogurt with double cream this morning, but I guess it could have been a lot worse! Have had some slices of cucumber with butter and cheddar and going to have the tandoori meat I ordered but ended up not being able to eat last night, in a bit.

I have been trying to keep up my water intake and just hoping I will feel better tomorrow and be able to get back to it properly.

Notsoskinnyminny · 31/01/2014 18:11

Evening losers, I wrote a big reply and then fuckin sky internet dropped out, why can't builders install cable when they build new houses Angry and now DS is home so all the bandwith will be swallowed up by him playing games Angry

I was talking to a colleague who's doing SW about things she can't eat now but she could when she did it in the 90s and I remembered their corned beef/cottage cheese flan and its perfect for this WOE (just check the carb count of cc as they don't half vary) any way its

tin of corned beef cubed and mixed with lightly fried onions (I used leeks because I didn't want hitting with BIWI's stick) used to line a flan dish.
3 eggs whisked and mixed into 200g cottage cheese, bit of s&p and bake until set (I sprinked some grated cheese on the top but not in the original recipe) and its delicious.

Has anyone else got swollen fingers? I've got tiny fingers and have to watch my rings don't get too loose when its cold but I can't get my nan's ring off hoping the whoosh fairy pays a visit and they'll go back to normal

Love the doggies, here's my baby after a bath.

Love all the doggies Smile

Bit of a meh day, food wise - I haven't had enough water or veg. Am home alone this evening and just 'treated' myself to a g&t - took two sips and chucked the rest down the sink Shock - waaaayyyyy too sweet! Have filled a glass with ice, water and a big squeeze of lime, much nicer. What is wrong with me?!

Soooo, today's Plates of Fatty Loveliness:
B: protein shake
L: two packs of tyrells pork scratchings, very low carb but feel like I should have had some veg
D: was going to have mussels with salad but they haven't defrosted in time. So have had a picnic of ham, Brie, cheddar, cucumber and olives. I feel stuffed, tbh.

Need to do a shop tomorrow, am running out of veg and yoghurt.

monkeyfacegrace · 31/01/2014 18:43

So, how bad is wine Blush
Have done really well-12lb ish loss since Jan 1st.

But Weds night I had a bottle of pinot and 6 choc digestives Sad
Then Thurs we went for a posh meal. I was so good and declined starter and puddling and had a ceaser saalad, but also a bottle of merlot.
Then today I went for lunch and has two glasses of white with my mixed grill.

So food wise Ive done ok, but its the alcohol. Have undone all my good work? Feel like giving up Sad

ChesterDrawers · 31/01/2014 18:47

We've gotta cocker too - spooky!

Am about to call a cab to Carby Twat Lane - pre-planned and boy am I looking forward to it.

See you all on the other side, 2lb heavier (at least), hungover to fuck but happy as a pig in the proverbial Grin

BIWI · 31/01/2014 18:59

Evening all!

PseudoBadger · 31/01/2014 19:00

Monkeyface - I think the main problem with wine is that your body will burn alcohol before fat, so it inhibits weight loss.
