Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

Morning all

Loves Indian nosh - I'd for for something like tandoori chook or lamb, mine does lovely lamb chops, then I have a cauliflower or spinach side dish. Smashing. :)

PseudoBadger · 31/01/2014 07:27

BIWI - can I ask about berries? BL obviously.
I've bought frozen berries with the intention of defrosting a handful for the morning. Will the freezing have rendered them nutritionally irrelevant and I may as well be having spoons of sugar?!

googoogoggles · 31/01/2014 07:29

Chicken shashlick or similar - cooked in tandoori oven, with salad/side of veg? Dry meat starter? Mmm - want curry this eve too
Keep waking up in night - is driving me crazy. Sometimes for loo, sometimes because I'm thirsty . Anyone else? Any tips?
(Don't drink caffeine after 1ish, don't eat late... Can get back to sleep but often waking every two hours!) Asahi!

FourArms · 31/01/2014 07:29

Bouncing around in the same 2lb range is driving me mad! Angry

I'm not eating as much veg as I was because on the Harcombe Diet you could eat pretty much any veg so I've cut out the higher carb veg and have had lots of meals with no veg.... do you think that could be why? I expect my carbs are very low but my fat & protein intake will be sky high.

I'm also not drinking enough, but I'm drinking more than I ever did at the start when I was losing. Sad

holmessweetholmes · 31/01/2014 07:40

Grrr. Up by 3lb this morning! And I've been being really good. Mind you, totm due today-ish so maybe that's why.

Phew- seem to have broken the week 3 gain stall. Am back to where I was a week ago. Have faith all, I was worried after gaining 4lb in my third week, but stuck to it and it's all gone again.

I think finally my appetite might be waning, which will no doubt help. It's taken a long time though, and I definitely still need to watch myself when it comes to eating for reasons other than hunger.

Talking of hunger- anyone else find they're feeling hunger in a different place? Don't know how else to describe it, but my hunger kind of feels... Higher up. Or something.

Loads of comments at work yesterday about how much weight I've lost. Such a boost when the scales aren't behaving.

I realised yesterday that it has now been 4 weeks without: bread, pasta, rice, chocolate, sweets, any sugar at all. In those 4 weeks my only transgressions have been 3x glasses of red, 1 bottle of prosecco, one onion bhaji, 4 almonds. But more than that, I haven't really felt tempted. I am so proud of myself, and that's not something I'm used to feeling.

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 31/01/2014 08:16

Oh, and today's plan:
B: boiled eggs and butter, coffee with cream
L: tuna mayo salad
D: something with chicken thighs/drumsticks. Maybe with olives, tomatoes and courgette. Shopping day tomorrow so using things up today.

Flowers Gerry well done on your newly discovered willpower (have you nicked mine?). Wink

Woolfey I find that there's very little point in arguing with stupid people. They are unlikely to change their minds and you may as well try and persuade a rabbit. Just smile and wave, boys, smile and wave! (Name that film) Grin

Pseudo I hope that frozen berries aren't just thawed out spoons of sugar, as I use them a lot. I figure that the rapid freezing preserves the nutrients well. Althooooooooooough... Now that I think about it, they say to pick sloes after the first frost or to bung them in the freezer before making sloe gin, as it makes them sweeter. Shock

Food yesterday
L - bubble and squeak with bacon
S - leftover ragu picked out from the spaghetti I served it with the night before!
D - burger with cheese and fried tomatoes. Too much red meat really, having had ragu for the previous two nights, but I thought we had smoked mackeral and then couldn't be arsed to go shopping.
Still not enough water, I don't think, and too much tea. I need to start measuring. Was very tempted by wine last night but resisted.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 31/01/2014 08:57

Mackerel not mackeral. Tut.

DD is in the air somewhere between Dubai and Melbourne (no plane crashes reported, Yay!). So today I shall be mainly cuddling the crazy cocker...

Morning all.

Here's what Dr Briffa has to say about the Horizon program:
www.drbriffa.com/2014/01/30/my-take-on-the-horizon-documentary-sugar-v-fat/

The crazy cocker looks very cuddlable, Crabby. :)

I think hunger feels different on LC. While in Carbland, when I got hungry it felt very urgent and I'd have to eat or I wouldn't be able to think of anything else. Now even when I start feeling hungry, it's just a feeling, and if I'm busy doing something, it's no problem at all to get distracted from the hunger. Then after an hour or few I'll remember again - oh yea, I'm hungry and didn't eat yet.

Food plan:
B: Fried eggs, coffee with coconut oil.
L: Smoked salmon and fresh spinach; Milbona yog. with vanilla.
D: Yesterday's spicy meatballs with swede mash.

tenementfunster · 31/01/2014 09:23

Oh god crabby look at the eyes on him! He's so gorgeous!!!!!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2014 09:28

Garn, he's not fooling me. We've had cockers (blue roans) all my life and they are not the innocent wee loves that that picture implies . Great grooming, though!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 31/01/2014 09:59

Have you read the comments on that article? With the Dr from the documentary getting a tad arsey? Brilliant. Grin

HeirToTheIronThrone · 31/01/2014 10:10

Eeeeek Crabby what a beautiful dog. We have a crazy springer here...

So I am stuck. Stuck gaining and losing the same lb over and over for 2 weeks now. It's getting a bit frustrating, by this time last BC I was over half a stone down...

Any tips? Here is my planned menu for today:
B - Lidl yogurt of wonder
L - leftover beef curry (Crabby's kashmiri recipe, had butter and cream added)
S - if I want them I have a Babybel and some cucumber sticks with me
D - omelette cooked in butter, probably with lardons and cheese in it
Water and usually a couple of teas with a little splash of milk

To cheer me and the others struggling up, here is a picture of said springer :)

Gosh my jeans feel really uncomfortable today.

Cos they're too big GrinGrinGrin

Not going to buy any smaller ones yet though - gonna enjoy being baggy arsed for a while.

prettybird · 31/01/2014 11:01

Eating out tonight at a really good Italian restaurant in Glasgow (ds' favorite restaurant and as its in celebration of the excellent school report we expect to be getting today, he gets to choose and if it's not good he pays Wink). Dh is worried 'cos his favorite dish is their fabulous pizza and 2nd choice is their tasty pasta. I've told him he can have a planned cheat if he wants, I'm going to choose low carb options from the rest of their excellent menu. Grin

trashcanjunkie · 31/01/2014 11:08

woolfey THANKS Grin

steeley I have heard something about the hunger thing. Naturally I have forgotten where and most of the details, but I'll rehash what I did remember and somebody cleverer may be able to work out what the fuck I'm blethering about Grin

sooo, the 'higher up' hunger is your actual stomach and those are genuine hunger feelings. The other 'hunger pains' much lower down are to do with emotional hunger and there is research of some type which found we have got actual thinky brain matter - like - BRAIN - in our intestines. Which would explain my old pangs when I felt stressed or upset or happy or, actually, when I felt any emotion what so ever Blush

I would watch tv after dinner and during each set of add breaks, I'd get hunger stabs even though I'd eaten a full dinner, and then some and then some

Stupid bloody brain guts

hopebeyondreason · 31/01/2014 11:58

Hiya Bootcampers.

I'm feeling sort of reassured that so many of you are struggling (God that sounds awful, but I hope you can see what I mean). TBH, I'm feeling a bit disillusioned with it at the moment.

I have three stones plus to lose, yet I lost only 2lbs in the pre-bootcamp week, 2lbs on bootcamp week 1 and another 2lbs on week 2. That was a disappointment as I have been pretty rigorous with the diet and I had put a lot on in December. Surely that, plus water and the glycerine store (or whatever it's called) would have resulted in an larger initial loss???

Anyway, I have now added a bit of 85% chocolate and on Tuesday I had a chicken salad wholemeal sandwich (as there was nothing else for me to eat and I wouldn't have lasted the day). I was prepared for a stall, but I am now 2.5lbs UP. FFS. And dry January finishes tonight and I want wine........

On the plus side, I am feeling more stable than I have for years in my approach to food, and the inches lost suggest a larger weight loss than the scales are saying. All the same, it's NOT FAIR!!!! (Stamps feet in a toddler like fashion). I am in desperate need of new clothes and |I refuse to buy any more until I am smaller.

MrsHughJarse · 31/01/2014 12:19

I can report that anyone suffering from constipation should try a 200g Macadamia carbytwat moment. Not only have I done the first fart since starting bootcamp - which made DH jump and both of us giggle like school kids in bed last night..... but this morning ..... - well ..... shall we say a total system cleanse occured Blush

Hey - hope - INCHES lost sounds like a good thing.....keep going - it will be worth it when we get to go on a clothes shopping binge Grin

pseudo watching with interest as I too defrosted ' fruits of the forrest' this morning to have with my lidls yog breakfast... fingers crossed we get the ok from shewhomustbeobeyed Biwi

arselikekylie not sure if to call you arse or kylie - arse seems a tad impolite Smile - but seems like we are polar opposites in the bottom department Grin

crabby completely adorable and gorgeous dog.... I have dog broodiness, which am hoping to address later in the year if my work pattern allows. Thankyou for the references, The new Sceintist article is very clear and Dr B's link to the 23 study review is perfect fodder to assauage DH's anxiety ofter the crappy Horizon... Ta everso...Thanks

thats it - just logged in to 'spout some shit' at lunch time whilst eating my lunchtime avocado with a spoon.

Massively thirsty today - have doen 3l already ( that nut moment just keep on giving !)

SteeleyeStan · 31/01/2014 12:31

hope I think 6lb in three weeks sounds bloody brilliant! That's not a slow rate of losing. Well done - you've no reason to feel disillusioned!

trash That's interesting. I just always assumed it was to do with swings in blood sugar and insulin, and how they're more stable now.

ImATotJe I agree, it was great. Grin

Andreas Eenfeldt's also written about the program.

hopebeyondreason · 31/01/2014 12:47

I have a cocker too (waves at other spaniel owners).

Thanks MrsHuge & Steeley. Its not so much the 6lbs loss that disappoints me - rather the 2.5lbs regain in the last 3 days!!!

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 31/01/2014 12:58
