Week 3 Low Carb Bootcamp - Where we stand at the crossroads ...

BIWI · 27/01/2014 07:31

Morning everyone.

So, we enter the fabled week 3.

This week you have a choice. You can either continue with Bootcamp or you can move on to Bootcamp Light:

Rules of Bootcamp Light

Or you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend. Totally up to you and what you find is working for you the most.

Don't forget to enter your weight on the weight tracker - today you should see your graph appear! Or if you prefer, here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

And now - a word of warning!

It is very, very, very common for weight loss to slow down/stop altogether in weeks 3, 4 and/or 5. This seems to be entirely normal. It's probably to do with your body adjusting to low carbing. You will have junked the glycogen stores and a load of water, and will now be burning fat. From here on, weight loss will - and should be - around 1-2lbs a week

Good luck everyone!

Step away from the sweets ElBombero! I eat sausages or salami if I feel like that but maybe I'm odd. It works though.

Tea that's what I'm hoping Grin although my skin was last dewy aged 11!

grumpy glad your son is ok, don't feel too guilty, tomorrow is another day Thanks

ElBombero · 30/01/2014 21:07

I'm resisted and made myself a little cheese platter instead but fuck this is hard sometimes!!!

Seri77 · 30/01/2014 21:41

Ooh that reminds me Willie, my gran always declared that potatoes made you fat. She had a recipe book from the 60s or so called eat well and be slim by Marika Hanbury Tenison, what a fab name. I can recall lots of the recipes involved cream. And meat/veg/salads.

googoogoggles · 30/01/2014 21:44

Look at you lot, chatting away all day. Will try to catch up later...
Well done for resisting ElBombero. Agree, sometimes so hard. Tonight I had some strawberries with a bit of cream and total FF. Lovely.
Had two tiny squares of dark chocolate last night, too AND nuts this pm when waiting for DD2 to finish sports thing.
Have obviously slipped into BC Light mid-week when I was supposed to be saving it for the weekends!
Not enough water, too much coffee!!!
But still keeping on...

googoogoggles · 30/01/2014 21:45

Seri I remember my dad, too, long ago, cutting out bread and spuds when he wanted to lose a bit of weight – all the in early 70s before the whole low fat diet thing started!

ElBombero · 30/01/2014 21:47

Still want them, so so bad!! I'd just sleep if I could but 4mo DS has different ideas. Ahhhh sleep and sugar (drools)

BIWI · 30/01/2014 21:48

Sarah - if you're not drinking the water no wonder you're having headaches - and it won't be doing your skin any favours either. And where is your veg? You really do need to eat more veg/salad. These are important nutrients you're missing

Oh arse which has more carbs- the Brazils or the macadamias?
I think I've dropped a bollock here.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 30/01/2014 21:52

Banting - see here 1860s diet, v. popular again in the twenties, or something...

AthelstaneTheUnready · 30/01/2014 21:56

Aldous Huxley, or maybe it was the other one, bangs on about it a lot.

(Evelyn Waugh, I think I mean)

BIWI · 30/01/2014 22:02

Well, according to this site brazil nuts are really low in carb. I can't believe that is actually right though Hmm

BIWI · 30/01/2014 22:05

And here too

Don't forget with this site to look at the net carbs

thenightsky · 30/01/2014 22:10

From the first bootcamp I did last year, I understood almonds were the 'best' low carb nuts, closely followed by brazils.

PseudoBadger · 30/01/2014 22:13

I bought Brazils and Pecans today, based on the carbs on the packet.

PseudoBadger · 30/01/2014 22:14

2.2/100g and 5.4/100g respectively

tenementfunster · 30/01/2014 22:24

Ooh maybe not such a huge disaster then, but your Hmm face leaves me trembling, biwi. It's like a death stare! I will keep the Brazils on the low down

MrsHughJarse · 30/01/2014 22:27

Stop talking about nuts - ! I still feel
Like I am going to vom Envy after my macadamia 2 bag binge .....
I had planned Salmon with hollandaise and buttery spinach for supper - but can't face anything ...

< not the stick , not the stick >

Did manage a Gin weirdo moment though Grin

Water all day tomorrow ......

Good article in The New Scientist. Most of their stuff is behind a paywall but I was able to read this in full (I'm registered with them, which is free). Hope this works...

SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 30/01/2014 22:37

BIWI - the issue is I do drink the water - I've normally had at least 2l by lunchtime and probably more than double that through the rest of the day. I seem to have high losses (always have had trouble with feeling thirsty) and am struggling to keep up. I drink in the car so as not to arrive home feeling parched, I take 2l bottles on a shopping trip and buy more whilst I'm there!

I also do eat loads of veg normally but wasn't really up to cooking due to being unable to move my head or concentrate...

BIWI · 30/01/2014 22:39

But you were the one who said that you were dehydrated!

OP posts:
SarahBeenysBumblingApprentice · 30/01/2014 22:54

I am - but I do drink masses; I talk all day and I'm a mouth breather so I loose more water than most. Essentially I'm struggling to meet my own requirements despite clocking in at least 4l/day. I'm sure it'll settle down and I just need to be religious about it.

It's been a massive issue for me before even when not dieting; I had a long period of insomnia that was essentially thirst related and I really struggle when visiting other people's houses unless I ask to help myself.

[clearly a freak]

CrabbyWinterBottom · 31/01/2014 00:21

Thank you all again for all your kind words. DD is now in the air and no plane crashes have been reported (yes I checked) so all must be well. Grin

Ewan lovely photograph.

Sarah have you ever been checked for diabetes?

Sorry to hear some of you are having a crap day today. Was going to type more but am totally knackered so I hope that everyone has a good night's sleep and wakes up tomorrow bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to seize the new low carb day! Wink

When I went to a delicious Indian restaurant last week, I had curried prawns to start and then had a mixed tandoori platter with salad for my main. Very filling and I figured they would cause the least amount of harm. I love spinach and was hoping to have some as a side but all the spinach dishes had potato and onion in them as well.

Enjoy!!
