Morning all!

I see several of you have already weighed in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

As of today, though, we also have our bright, shiny, new Bootcamp section on Mumsnet, including our own Weight Tracker, which will only show your own weight/progress.

You can either use the Spreadsheet as we have done before, which everyone has access to and can see, or you can go here and enter your weight.

Obviously you can do both!

When you're in the new Bootcamp, if you click on the tab that says 'more info' that will take you to a section which has loads of information about low carbing, as well as Bootcamp Rules

Before we get going formally, I have to make an important disclaimer:

I am not a doctor, a medic, a scientist, a nutritionist or a dietician. I have no formal training in food, dieting or low carbing. The information that I provide here is based solely on my reading on the subject, as well as my own experience. If you have any kind of medical condition and/or you are taking any kind of ongoing medication, you should consult your GP before starting a low carb diet

That done, good luck everyone!

Hi everyone first post for me. Day 2 going ok - I am not weighing myself as I can get a tad obsessive so I cam just using the good old tape measure and also going on how my clothes feel.

Just saying hi Smile

projectbabyweight · 14/01/2014 16:18

Any mushrooms are too many Maryz Envy (puke) Grin

I'm doing pretty well so far. Possibly also leaning too much on dairy products, mind you I only buy food once a week so once they're gone, they're gone!

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 14/01/2014 16:21

Bleurgh. Day 8, all going well, except what I guess is métis is causing revolting mouth. Does this go away? I'm a teacher, if I have dog breath you can guarantee I'll get a nickname in no time. I've upped the water (even more!!), is there anything else I can do? Because I guess mints are out!?

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 14/01/2014 16:21

Metis? Weird autocorrect. Don't even know what that is. Should read ketosis

Horrid taste here too. And I'm not drinking enough water. Struggling with it for some reason. Might throw caution to the winds and try sparkling for a change.

Just put a chicken in to roast. Smothered in butter. Yum. Your mention of mushrooms Maryz reminded me that I have some lovely big flat portobello ones. Might do celeriac chips and fry some chopped leeks and mix with a bit of cheese and mustard and stuff the mushrooms with the leek mixture and roast too.

Feeling a bit headachy and lethargic. That will be the effect of all the utter shite I have been eating! Chipping - I know what you mean about your Xmas dinner being the best meal you ate! I ate so much crap. And Maryz - I ate so many Tayto I got sick of them! Managed to leave my chocolate Kimberly at my dads though.

projectbabyweight · 14/01/2014 16:50

Does this weird mouth taste mean I'm definitely burning fat?

CointreauVersial · 14/01/2014 16:57

Cider, Maryz, we were in Ireland over NY.

OMG, it really is the land of the carb (at MIL's, at least). Toast, spuds, chips, sandwiches, mash, chips, bread, biscuits, and maybe a bit of toast to finish. But those Mikados and Kimberleys are lush. And the soda bread......Blush

I came home with a 5lb carb baby. Grin

I think caffeine definitely affects me somehow ... - have been toddling along on pre- boot camp practice and now BC proper and have tried to follow all the rules inc caff free . Today I have had for various reasons - 3 caff full coffees and I feel like I could eat all of DD3's milky ways all in one go - and any other carby fest foods I can find ....
Have eaten half a block of cheese and about to go for a walk in the rain to try and bring myself back from oblivion !

For me caffeine = struggling .... Back to caff free from now on .

WillieWaggledagger · 14/01/2014 17:15

caffeine causes low blood sugar in some people i think, which can trigger carb cravings - sadly you may be one of them

WillieWaggledagger · 14/01/2014 17:16

weird mouth taste is not universal, but it can indicate that the body is switching into ketosis

don't worry if you don't get it though

Tigglette · 14/01/2014 17:27

I'm having a good day today, so far food has looked like this:-

B: full fat Greek yoghurt with a splash of double cream and cinnamon
L: bacon and avocado salad

Dinner will be chicken fajitas with little gem lettuce taking the place of tortilla. I've also been drinking coffee with cream and lots of mint tea. All good!

CiderwithBuda · 14/01/2014 17:28

Cointreau - it is indeed land of carbs! My dad is diabetic and is SO disciplined. Won't even have a spoonful of dessert. Saves his naughtiness for beer! But he is on his own now as my mum is in a nursing hem and he felt it wasn't Xmas if he didn't buy all the normal Xmas stuff so when we got there for new year he had chocolate Kimberley, Tayto, Xmas pudding, Ferrero Rocher etc etc. I was the only one eating it all! Nightmare!

Supersalstrawberry - did I meet you at a meet up one year? With your sister?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/01/2014 17:32

Yy about the salty taste Maryz Tis 'orrible.

QueenofallIsee · 14/01/2014 17:33

Hi all, so I eased in gently last week and cut out bread & potatoes as well as sweeties etc. Boot camp wise, I am oddly concerned that I am as yet not feeling rubbish..I know that sounds ridiculous and I am honestly not stealth bragging, I was such a big carb eater that I expected a massive come down.

Today I ate

  • sliced cucumber and ham for brekkie
  • Salad made with lettuce, cucumber, green peppers and a wee bit of onion and spicy chicken breast
  • (planned) pork chop, celeriac mash and broccoli

2 litres of water and 2 cups black coffee. Worked out for 30 mins using playstation personal trainer programme.

In the opinon of the carbers, does this seem OK to you?

LauraBridges · 14/01/2014 17:33

No weird taste here but I always have and will drink loads of water all day as I don't drink anything else mostly and never liked hot drinks or alcohol and my diet apart from nuts and raisins and sweet potatoes until Monday was as on this one anyway so for me it's not such an adjustment.

On sleeping I find carbs before bed like baked potato make me and most other people sleep more and longer and have dreams and low carb tends not to have the soporific effect but if some are finding it does that's great. Mind you I always go to bed around 10 and get up around 6.30 anyway so already a fairly good sleeper. I'm lucky.

After my huge helping of very fatty pork and more of the fat off the top with peppers not hungry at all particularly having had cream to drink mid afternoon.

Everyone seems to be doing very well. Well done. I won't weigh myself for a week as the most I've ever lost in my life even eating this way is a pound a week unlike all you other very good losers.

NellVarnish · 14/01/2014 17:36

Thanks getset and Heirtothethrone fir the Lidl yoghurt update - I will search it out.

Feeling rubbish today. Tired after work and got a horrible taste in my mouth. Lying in a darkened room, resting MNing. I know this will pass and l'll have loads of energy by the end of the week. Hopefully.

Going to make some broccoli and Stilton soup for tea and try to find Chesterdraws chicken nugget recipe.

Hope everyone's doing ok Smile

Cbeebijeebies · 14/01/2014 17:44

Really regretting it now as I feel a bit rough. It's weird how sweet 'non' sweet things taste even after a few days. The diet pepsi seemed way too sweet (which is why I didn't have much).

So many people doing a much better job of sticking to the plan though Grin well done!

Catwonkle42 · 14/01/2014 17:44

2 words - CAULIFLOWER PIZZA!! Absolutely delicious, kids said they preferred it to normal pizza (of course I didn't reveal the ingredient) and I'll definitely be making that while husb orders his usual Friday night mega-meat stuffed crust feast or whatever! Seriously tastes like such a treat - have tried to link a recipe here. I had it with mozza, parmesan, crispy parma ham, chillies and basil. Highly recommended - try it!

ziggiestardust · 14/01/2014 17:49

I'm nipping out tonight to a bar. I have to go, can't get out of it. What can I drink? I'm 90% certain they don't serve bottled/sparkling water.

Please HELP!!

Notsoskinnyminny · 14/01/2014 17:53

Urrgh dying! I felt nauseous last night and put it down to the bug going round school but after a lousy day with migraine symptoms I think its carb flu - I never had it last time and can only put it down to the xmas excesses. Going to have a lie down before dinner.

Food today
B - sausage & egg muffins
L - left over chilli with cauli rice and cheese
D - pork steak, buttered cabbage, stuffed mushroom
S - olives
W - nearly 2l so far

Mlig · 14/01/2014 18:10

I spent ages panicking about carb flu, but now I'm panicking that I don't have it! I'm on day 3, will it hit me doubley bad tomorrow? Or am I doing something wrong? :-(
