Don’t have anyone to sign passport

I really want to take my children abroad but don’t have anyone to do their passports. Has anyone been in this situation and what did you do? (Don’t need any suggestions of who can sign it I’m aware and have looked through the list but don’t have anyone that can do it) is there anything else that can be done if you’ve been in this situation?

I understand that but ive said countless times there is no one, you don’t think ive though about every option? There is no one and ive repeatedly I’m not looking for suggestions of who can do it I KNOW who can. I’m asking if you have no one to do it are there any options.

No there aren’t.

I guess you could make an effort to get to know someone on the approved list and wait for 2 years and apply then though if there is genuinely not a single person from any stage in your life who isn’t a criminal!

Moveoverdarlin · 23/03/2025 16:26

What about the class parents WhatsApp group? Thinking about ours, there’s police, 3 nurses, 1 MD, civil servants, engineers, financial services professionals. In fact, I think the majority of them COULD do it.

MichaelandKirk · 23/03/2025 16:27

Quite honestly I think some people don’t want to be helped. Everything is a drama with them in the middle of it.

I am out of this thread.

People who don’t want to listen to any sensible suggestions just suck the life out of you. Suspect the OP doesn’t work as they have completely ignored the questions around working. Even if they did work I am sure they would come up with a reason why no one in their company could countersign.

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:27

I mean the information is available online that they can’t do it anymore

Every single other parent in your children's classes can't sign? That's vanishingly unlikely. Or have you moved areas in the last two years. Even if you have are you not in touch with a single parent from their previous school?

VeryStressedMum · 23/03/2025 16:28

Do you not have any family members who know someone? You must know some people and they must know people

Titasaducksarse · 23/03/2025 16:28

Bung me £100 and I'll falsify I know you.

Find someone to sign it or stay in the U.K.?

there really aren’t any other options

Comedycook · 23/03/2025 16:29

You really do sound determined not to find a solution.

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:29

I will call them on Monday and see what they say. I doubt I’m the only person in this situation.

You're being deliberately resistant to anyone's help and suggestions.

Why?

No, as I say you are far from the only person who insists they are in this situation but refuses to answer various questions to explain how they are so insistent they are in that situation.

None of those previous posters have listened to advice either.

Maviaz · 23/03/2025 16:31

OP there is no automatic right to get a passport.
For very obvious security reasons there is a need to prove your identity. That means you need to find someone to do this.
And that may involve some planning ahead, asking around, contacting people from your past or going out of your comfort zone to ask someone. But without that you can’t apply for a passport

MemorableTrenchcoat · 23/03/2025 16:31

I have a relative who struggled to find anyone to sign theirs. They were somewhat reclusive, which didn’t help. They tried their GP and dentist; both refused. In the end, a friend of another relative, who hadn’t even met them, signed it for them.

Itsyourwifeymacrid · 23/03/2025 16:32

I'm not in same boat but I couldn't think of anyone for my daughters to sign but teacher more than happily did it for me,my bad bit is that I was born after 1983 and I need to put my grandparents details down for some strange reason and I don't have anyone to ask for that so I know how annoying doing this can be,if your children are not of school age ask a health visitor hun x

londongirl12 · 23/03/2025 16:32

Have you got a class WhatsApp? Ask on there. There must be someone with the “correct” profession.

Cucy · 23/03/2025 16:32

I asked my DCs primary school head teacher and she said yes.

You probably are.

But do call the helpline. Though you may want to be more willing to engage with the person who answers your call than you are on this thread.

There is no one that can do it I said im not asking for suggestions as I know there is no one who can do it I’m aware of the list and aware who can sign, I don’t have anyone to sign. I was only asking if anyone had been in this situation and what they did, but it seems the only people responding are those who haven’t been in this situation then getting annoyed at me? 😕 I’m not asking your advice I’m asking for advice from people that have been in this situation and if there is any alternative set up for people who have no one to sign.

IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE ANYONE ON THE LIST!!!

There have been quite a few threads about this actually as I did a mumsnet search so no definitely not just me.

Unless you were locked up by your own parents until you turned 18, when you then went into prison and have only just been released, yes you are literally the only person in this situation. And even then, you could ask your probation officer or one of the prison wardens to countersign it for you!

There are genuinely hundreds of people who will have British passports who have known you since before 2023 which you could ask if you were prepared to do so. You just won’t. Maybe because you have been turned down by the school. But not everyone will say no. You just need to keep asking until someone says yes.

Bbq1 · 23/03/2025 16:33

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:10

Again I don’t need suggestions but thanks I will call on Monday.

Okay, as you keep saying but I doubt there's another way around it so you might have to start considering suggestions. Unless you live in a field in the middle of nowhere you MUST have neighbours of some description?

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 16:34

Cucy · 23/03/2025 16:32

I asked my DCs primary school head teacher and she said yes.

New head teacher hasn’t been there 2 years and they won’t do it anyway I asked the school they said no.

If there’s someone you knew 5 or 10 years ago you can find on fb with some standing in the community they have known you more than two years even if you’ve lost touch.

Yep, all insistent they don't know anyone and refusing to engage with suggestions same as you. So I don't believe them any more than you.
