Happy New Year and Happy New Thread to all the single parents looking for a place to rant, rave, moan, share the highs and the lows and chat with people that know! It is the second thread and probably a slow one if the first is anything to go by, but it's here when we need it.

That's selfish of your friend Solo did you think about dying the hair yourself I use Nice n Easy by Clairol the trick is not to leave it in too long and as I have quite fine hair these days not to overcondition it afterwards or it goes a bit flat.

I have been dying my own hair for years - once a month the wash in type the semi permanent.

As for your friend just tell her you don't tell your profile name to anybody ever and that you always keep it hidden (which is an option on that site) even if you don't.

The other thing I would add about men is to lower the expectations (as I have gone really fussy over the years now I have been single so long, thought I don't take my own advice!) without being desperate.

Hope the meeting goes off well you must keep us all informed!

Solo · 20/04/2017 09:33

Flowers yes, I colour my own hair and it's fine colour-wise, just needs cutting. Might try to get it done tomorrow.
Yes! I know what you mean about becoming more fussy and lowering expectations about men; I think I'm more open to men and traits I would have passed by before...this Friday's date doesn't quite speak the Queen's English which I can be quite snobbish about, but I'm trying because he sounds lovely otherwise!

Yes I do understand - just hate it it when people use verbs incorrectly and so on but if they have a spark and aren't overly common other traits can make up for it....!

I go to a walk in hair salon at present - no appointment needed no frills no fuss you just wait in the row of seats ladies dry cuts £5.99 and mens £4.99. I swear they cut it just as good or better than the more expensive salon at £38 a pop.

They did wonders with my fringe this week and this time there wasn't even a queue so I didn't even have to read my book while waiting!

I give a pound tip so call it £7 incredible value I say!

Solo · 20/04/2017 11:02

Oh it's when they fink instead of think or think instead of thing...

That's brilliant! Are they a chain? Mine is £11 per item, so £22 for a wash, cut and dry. I am considering popping into a better salon this evening if there's one open though. We'll see. Just want to look as nice as I can with jowls tomorrow!

OP posts:
PollyPelargonium52 · 20/04/2017 11:07

Yes I worry about my jowls too Solo lol. In fact it was this week I was planning to do my face mask twice a week to keep myself intact as much as poss. lol.

No they aren't a chain just a cheapskate basic place.....!

That price is still good though what you would pay.

Solo · 20/04/2017 11:13

I think we're a similar age :). I did feel better about myself when waiting at the salon yesterday as a mother and daughter came in, one drinking an energy drink, the other got a pepsi max out, they were both huge and both looked miles older than me and I reckon the mother was a good 10 years younger than me, they both went outside for a smoke... judgey cah, both didn't look as though they'd washed their hair in a month, so I felt good sitting there...

Solo · 20/04/2017 11:14

Do you think face masks work? What kind?

Foslady · 20/04/2017 12:13

I'm really lucky to have someone who comes to my house and only charges £35 for me and dd's cut and a colour on me (I have white underneath my dark brown and I know I would miss half the back if I did it myself!). My little bit of luxury!!!

Foslady · 20/04/2017 12:14

The moisture bomb is supposed to be really good, the one that's a piece of paper/cloth

Foslady · 20/04/2017 12:15

And the other two women - I know you shouldn't, but what a boost to you!!!!!!!

PollyPelargonium52 · 20/04/2017 12:19

HA ha yes it's good when others look noticeably older than us and the same age isn't it! I look fine barely any wrinkles just the jowls a TINY bit but it still bothers me.

One year I took myself off to a skin specialist clinic they told me I was worrying for nothing and it didn't need doing! I think I was getting obsessed.

Money no object Estee Lauder masks are great but ordinarily I use Liz Earle I think it is about £14 if you buy on ebay. It does seem to help keep the complexion nice and fresh looking.

I know I don't look the age I am (53) so can't complain lol. I am a bit of a skincare fiend though and do the whole regime every morning and evening and always have since my teenage years believe it or not!

Solo · 21/04/2017 00:23

Fos I prefer to have someone do mine, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do for herself cos no one else will :) . Yes, it does make you feel good :)

Flowers thought we were! I'm the same age and often told I look 38. No wrinkles, a few fine lines starting. I've always been blessed with great skin, but yes, it's the slight jowl now and my once high eyebrows are so much lower these days...and the eye lids of course!
I do moisturise every morning after cleansing and if my skin is a bit dry, I might use a night creme. I'm wondering whether I should bleach the tash in the morning; it's not dreadful, but it depends how close he gets and whether or not his eyesight is still good! Grin I must remember to smile lots! I might wear my glasses which will hide the small smile creases and the smile will hide the jowls! Might be slightly difficult drinking my latté with a perma grin though!

Good luck Solo.

I have a lip wax booked in two weeks time it is looking a little bit dark these days with being the age I am! Yikes.

Foslady · 21/04/2017 12:45

Thinking of you Solo - fingers crossed!!!!

Solo · 21/04/2017 14:57

Had my hair cut but came home rewashed and dried it my way! Never done that before but I didn't like the look of it from the salon. £15 inc tip. Can't grumble and it does look much better now.

Not touched the top lip, too scared to...but I might yet...|My roots look far worse (where I didn't leave it in long enough last time) than I realised as I sat in the chair in front of that big mirror today. Eeek!

I bought a new Primarni blouse which I'll wear with black skinnies and my 'MN recommends' UGG boots. Will I wear a pink raincoat style coat (short) or my black slightly longer one? Not sure which bag either...

OP posts:
PollyPelargonium52 · 21/04/2017 15:18

I doubt the bloke will notice what bag lol.

You will have to let us know the outcome with all this buildup isn't it!!

Foslady · 21/04/2017 15:31

Ditto Polly!!!!

Wear the one that makes you feel great!Smile

Solo · 22/04/2017 01:13

Not good! He texted me to say he was so sorry, but couldn't make it. This was 2 hours prior to date time and I'm so glad I had not started getting ready! He had to step in and do an airport pick up of a friends parents as the friends brother was in hospital with chest pains and could we meet Sat or Sunday afternoon instead. I'm really guessing he hasn't a clue about find a baby sitter!

OP posts:
Foslady · 22/04/2017 01:15

Solo · 23/04/2017 00:11

PollyPelargonium52 · 23/04/2017 07:26

Foslady · 23/04/2017 11:35
