Happy New Year and Happy New Thread to all the single parents looking for a place to rant, rave, moan, share the highs and the lows and chat with people that know! It is the second thread and probably a slow one if the first is anything to go by, but it's here when we need it.

52 here probably so I'll be almost 61 when Dd is 18. I think I'll buy my motorhome and come visit you all :)

I shall look forward to that Solo! You can write a travelogue of your escapades ....

Meglet 9 is a hard age I found that with ds when he was feeling extra hormonal. Time is the answer.

Solo · 04/11/2016 09:59

Great idea!

Can I jump on this post too please!

I'm a single mummy to 2 boys (6 and 17 months) and find it tough 80% of the time! I get zero support from my ex, infact I only ever hear from him when he wants to see the children. Recently found out (through my 6 yr old) that him and his girlfriend (ow) are having a baby in January!

I often wonder what i have done to deserve to be treated with no respect yet I'm bringing up his children. He can't even ask me how they are as he wants the minimal amount of contact with me.

My boys are amazing but gees it's tough on your own. My ex left me at 7 months pregnant and I know things can never be that bad again but currently it's just relentless!

I need to get away but don't have the spare cash 😢 Oh the joys! Know you'd all get me though where my 'happily' married friends don't have a clue!x

Solo · 04/11/2016 23:16

Welcome charly Thanks yes, it's tough, but you are strong; we all are on here. It's just difficult because it is every minute of every day. Feel free to chat, vent etc as someone usually answers! :)

Anyone around? Not right now necessarily, but it is very quiet in here. I'm just having a quick look and to sleep...

I'm here. Although DD has just hollered for my help to decorate a little bird house for the garden. Back shortly. ........

megletthesecond · 13/11/2016 15:08

Check out this bad boy. DD Jackson Pollock-ed her bird house. Educational mummy had given her an art book to flick through for inspiration. partly so mummy could have some peace for a cup of tea after a busy morning.

I like that! Nothing much happened over here - new job starts tomorrow (gulp!), OLD has been an out and out disaster - 3 dates and each one awful (no 1 especially- and I gave him more than 1 chance!).
Hope everyone out there's ok x

Solo · 13/11/2016 23:18

I like that too meglet! :)

Fos ((hugs)) 'tis crap! They clearly are not worthy of you. Mr Right will come along! Thanks

Dd goes on a short residential school trip tomorrow and I'm almost dreading it. What if she has trouble with the bullies. What if she feels unwell? What if...! :(
She is due to have her tonsils out soon and I haven't yet communicated this to her father; some of me doesn't want to...

PollyPelargonium52 · 14/11/2016 05:59

Good luck with the new job today Foslady!

Solo I hope dd has a lovely school residential hopefully staff are well equipped to deal with any bullies...

Foslady · 14/11/2016 07:02

Thank you! And Solo I hope the residential goes well - I think they're great for the kids.......but a nightmare for us parents!!!

Solo · 14/11/2016 10:33

Hope your first day is going well Fos :) You'll do well for sure! Thanks.

Dd got off okay, but she (and I) did not get a restful night as her apnoea was particularly bad and I spent a lot of the night turning her, moving her head etc ~ and if I'm truthful, this worries me more than the bullies :(

megletthesecond · 14/11/2016 12:55

Hope today is going well fos.

solo I'm sure your DD will have a whale of a time. In my experience teachers are pretty hot on friendship and health issues during residentials. DD has her first one next month me and ds will have a party and be able to get a good night's sleep .

Foslady · 14/11/2016 20:14

On Solo - I know my dad's teachers were great on residentials, but no matter what anyone says, us mums always worry. ((((Hugs))))
First day went well - phew!

Thought I'd jump in and say hello as this is a great idea for a thread. I've been a single dad to 2 DC since the start of the year when their mum left to start a relationship with someone else. It's been a real struggle at times, especially at the beginning, as the eldest DC turned 4 in the last few months and so has been fully aware of the massive changes in our lives. The youngest is 2 and has medical conditions that have lead to developmental delays so is less aware of the changes but his needs coupled with my own medical problems make things hard. It's also very isolating which is the worst part, as I can't take the kids out all day everyday due to my medical issues it can make me feel guilty that they're missing out

nixnjj · 18/11/2016 11:14

Can I say hi too. Single mum to a nearly 12 year old and been alone since pregnancy. Father violent when pregnant and I got in contact 18 months ago when son wanted to meet him. Son has since learnt he's a waste of space so no support there.
ChronicPD is your eldest at school yet? I got support from Primary school when I had health issues. Sure start is another agency that could offer support.

ChronicPainDaddy · 18/11/2016 12:42

Yeah she started this year, she's the youngest in his class by a month and looks so small compared to everyone else but is luckily really enjoying it. The school have been supportive, its on a busy main road and only has a small car park so parents aren't allowed to use it but they've given me permission to park there, which is a good thing as I simply wouldn't be able to walk there and back.

The local Homestart group have organised a volunteer who comes to see us on a Monday afternoon and usually offers to walk to school at pick up time so I can rest, she's a lovely lady who adores the kids and my eldest loves her to the point that of she gets upset if she doesn't pick her up.

These do help but it still seems to be a struggle much of the time, especially when dealing with the kids mum, she seems to love making things difficult.

I'm sorry you've been without support but you are obviously a good parent, giving your son the chance to see his dad and make his own mind up about him. It's a shame he hasn't started being more supportive since but at least your son can now appreciate more how lucky he is to have a caring and supportive parent

Solo · 19/11/2016 00:17

Hello and welcome CPD and nix (hope you don't mind the abbreviations) :). You are very welcome to our little thread! It can go very quiet, but there's usually a response at some point.

It can be really difficult to juggle and cope with being a lone parent and I too have done it since pregnancy with my eldest (now 18). My youngest is almost 10 and her father is not around either. I also have a chronic illness (ME), and yes it's a struggle, but I try to push through as there is little support or choice!

Please make the most of this sanctuary where you can moan and mope, chat and laugh and share experiences. I look forward to seeing more of you on here Thanks

Well 1st week went well! Had a 'new girl' moment when I thought I couldn't do the job and felt stupid but the next day discovered no, I hadn't been given enough information (phew!). Boss was ill yesterday so did some more stuff 'to see how I got on' so trying not to think about it over the weekend and hoping I haven't messed up Blush. Everyone seems really nice though and have made me feel very welcome........and the mini tornado knocking out the power gave us all a talking point!!!!
Welcome to the thread nix & CPD - it's a lovely safe place to come to, we really are here for each other.

megletthesecond · 19/11/2016 10:28

Good to hear everyone is nice fos. I'm sure you haven't messed anything up.

hello to cpd and nix Smile .

We're still massively understaffed at work. My boss is off with a miserable personal problem and she now seems to think the new full time temp is more capable than me who's been there 6 years with no problems . My boss thinks part timers are inconvenient and keeps suggesting I go full time, which I've given her short shrift about. Guess who they go to when there's a problem, not the temp that's for sure.

Anyway, terribly exciting day ahead of us. I need to buy a new kettle and we must tidy the allotment up a bit.

Solo · 20/11/2016 01:42

Good to hear Fos :) Well done! My new girl moment still rears its ugly head and I've not been the new girl for quite a while now Blush. I think it actually gets worse as you get older :( But you will be absolutely fine! :) I can tell.

Meg that sounds bloody annoying and I'm angry on your behalf Angry. I never want to work full time again! I hate that some people think others should Angry (again).
