Anyone fancy a Mumsnet LP Holiday??

Oh why not. Shall we all try to book a holiday in the same week at, say, a cheap/cheerful caravan/camping place in the UK?

It'd be such a laugh if lots of us went.

We are near Glasgow so I don't know where UR talking about but my 40th is the first week in august so count me and 2 dcs in.
300 quid top whack for me .
Camping ,caravan or chalet cool 4 us x

Cribbage · 22/01/2011 21:59

Great idea! I'd need somewhere with wheelchair access but shouldn't be a problem.

mumbar · 22/01/2011 22:08

Oh can I join? Don't recognise many names on this thread but I'm pretty easy going. As a LP to an only child it would be great for DS to have some company too.

Camping great for me - cheapest option when only 1ad and 1ch.

dobiegirl · 22/01/2011 22:10

we would love to go, anytime during the summer holidays, please not pontins - really, really hate it, but haven, parkdean, etc love that - we would want our own caravan though, not bothered where.

Is someone gonna come up with a suggestion and we can all yay or nay it!!

How many, where, when etc?

There is a few of us but up for a good time with other mums and kids!!! xx

mumbar · 22/01/2011 22:14

OH just to add, my DS will be almosy 7 by then. I have a tent and would be willing to camp on the site people chose - if it accomodates.

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 23:36

I've been looking at the Park Resort camber sands option

It seems the caravans and chalets cost more there (than at pontins - possibly because pontins are offering big discounts at the moment)
However the plus side is that they also have camping pitches.
So if those of us that want a caravan or chalet were happy to pay a bit more so that those who want to camp can join us then it could be an alternative.

Quick scan on prices on the website (this is all for 4 days starting 1st august and includes an early booking discount of £25 if you book before end of jan):

Camping - non electrical pitch £144 or electrical £164

2 bed bronze caravan or chalet (sleeping 4) £481 (as oposed to £384 at pontins)
or a 2 bed that sleeps 6 (presumably sofa beds) is £496

a 3 bed bronze sleeping 6 is £533.

So quite a bit more on the pontins price and above the £300 budget that was suggested before. If there are a few of us we could try for a group rate I supose, and anyone happy to share would pay less per person of course.

Also it has 4 pools, various kids clubs for ages 1 up to 16, and quite a few other facilities which may make it worth paying a bit more (possibly?) plus the added benefit of any would be campers joining.

So those that wanted to camp, is that price within your price range? And if so, are those who prefer a chalet/caravan happy to pay the extra for this site.

It does have some accomodation described as accessible (which I presume means wheelchair friendly) but there weren't many of these left (though I don't know how many they had to start with of course!)

See here for what is on offer at this site
www.park-resorts.com/holiday-parks/kent-and-sussex/camber-sands/

And just to throw this in...it is a heck of a lot cheaper to go here in easter or may half term.
2 or 3 bed caravans are £210/£233 for 4 days starting 18th April
or £330/£366 4 days starting 30th May

dobiegirl · 22/01/2011 23:47

I'd be for this in the may half term, what does everyone else think?

Spero · 22/01/2011 23:50

I'd like to come, my daughter will be six, we don't mind sharing.

dobiegirl · 22/01/2011 23:58

There's 3 of us, me and two boys 6 & 9 and am happy to share

dobiegirl · 23/01/2011 00:05

I don't mind sharing, but I need an 8 berth.

my daughter and boyfriend in other bed

other mum and child in other bed

we are clean living, no smoking, etc happy go luckys , just a suggestion and we can split the cost 8 ways.

DollyPantsJollyPants · 23/01/2011 00:07

would never smoke inside though obv

Spero · 23/01/2011 00:09

dobiegirl, sounds good, my daughter would like to play big sister to your son!

Cain · 23/01/2011 00:23

God no, I plan for France this summer, I go on a working holiday in exchange for board in the south of France. I work bloody hard, ds does his bit and we both come home tanned and toned! Its fab!

pickgo · 23/01/2011 00:35

Anyone else thought of this with a teenager? My DS will be 15 by summer and we'd both probably feel like fish out of water if everyone else's Dcs all little uns.

Cain · 23/01/2011 00:49

'pickgo' have you thought about a working holiday? I usually come home with a fantastic tan because ds is kept occupied on 'jobs'. I can work hard and be able to sunbathe in the evenings and then chill out with a glass of wine when the sun goes down.

It is a fabulous holiday because although I work hard, it is not like my regular job and the benefits are huge.

I would recommend.

gillybean2 · 23/01/2011 00:58

pickgo my ds is 12. He's a young 12 though

BEAUTlFUL · 23/01/2011 01:14

I love how this has taken off! Hooray for us!

I'm happy to go wherever, whenever. I know that's ultimately incredibly unhelpful but it's true. Like the idea of saving a lot of money by going in the half term instead - count me in for that.

Good for you, Cain.

Spero · 23/01/2011 01:21

thanks for all your hard work researching gillybean. the half term does sound good. I really don't mind where, but south is easier. I am in Bristol if anyone wants a lift.

DollyPantsJollyPants · 23/01/2011 02:15

yes thanks gillybean, I like the look of this if South is better for everyone
I could do the May half term too

DollyPantsJollyPants · 23/01/2011 02:15

it's the same company but in Bideford

gillybean2 · 23/01/2011 03:43

Yes Bideford looks good. However it doesn't offer everything the camber sands one does...

Camber sands is right on the beach, Bideford is a 15 min drive to the beach. One of the big things people said they want is to be near the beach.
Plus it has no teen club or the under 5 kids club. There's quite a big range of children involved so I was trying to suggest somewhere that had all the clubs available.

Also the bus stop is 5 mins walk and the train station half an hour away. At least one person said they would need to be near a train station...

Was trying to tick as many boxes as I could for people at Camber Sands seemed to be the one to do that. We're all single parents but we all have different needs and holiday wants too! :)

goingroundthebend4 · 23/01/2011 04:03

Pickgo

depending when it is and where I might be intrested .I have ds1 (17) ds2 (14) ds3 (5) and dd(7)

So you won't be only one with teens.

But because there's five of us would not be sharing carvan be wee bit crowded as it is.

goingroundthebend4 · 23/01/2011 04:05

May half term works best for me as were away first week of august.Though would consider doing next year in summer

if was May half term I will only have the 3ds as dd is going away with family friend so makes cheaper for me
