Oh why not. Shall we all try to book a holiday in the same week at, say, a cheap/cheerful caravan/camping place in the UK?

It'd be such a laugh if lots of us went.

Ok so richardson's in Norfolk offer the following for a 4 day break starting 1st August at Summerfields which is near Great Yarmouth.

First floor apartment with balcony. Double bedded room and sofa bed in lounge with lounge/diner and well equipped kitchen £209

Two bedroom ground floor chalet with one double and one twin beddedroom £228.95

Two bedroom ground floor chalets with one double and one twin. There is also a sofa bed in lounge £295.45

Three bedrooms. Modern 12ft wide caravan with one double and two twins. Sofa bed in lounge £361

Two storey chalet with three bedrooms, two double rooms and one twin £304

And some other options too, but basically in price range.

Look hee for more info on the site

Again lots to do in the area bewilderwood, pleasurewood hills, Great Yarmouth itself, norfolk broads etc

Stayed at their site in hembsy and teh acoomodation was cheap but good andwell worth what we paid. Entertainment in the evenings was excellent, as was the kids club. So assume will be similar at this place.

Swallowed you got to remember this is in school holidays. It will be more at that time of year unfortunately :(

I guess there is always the option to share if you want to reduce costs and can find someone willing to share with you

BertieBotts · 22/01/2011 16:21

I'd be interested, possibly :) It would just be me and 2yo DS though. So I'd basically need a twin room or a double, or even a single, if they would be ok with him having a ready bed on the floor.

Anyone else looking at this with toddlers?

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 16:24

Gilly, how far from the beach/facilities?

I had a look at the club 2, it has three single beds and a sofa bed, it says can fit 7, it seems a squash at 5 to me, there is three of us and it seems the right size, and I don't want to be bringing bedding/towels etc, as I went to butlins once with a friend, we booked for the bedding etc, and she did not, it was not a huge difference in price, and she had no t-towel, no nothing, where as if I can remember back we had washing up liquid, toilet roll and all sorts, and she was running back and forth to the shops and her car with stuff, wasting her holiday, looking all stressed out... It was a long time ago so things may have changed.

Also, how would this work in the evenings? Surely we'll all have children asleep in our own chalets and therefore all be stuck in, separately?

Sorry I have never done this before so just curious as to how it would work really.

ivykaty44 · 22/01/2011 16:26

If you want good camping and south of the ocuntry there is the new forest and the camp site is a child paradise with lots of places to play and no restrictions on noises in the day hollands wood is great as you can forget the car and walk into the shops at either town and cycle with ease - its also cheap 50p to get your mobile charged and no electric to worry about just camp. You can get to the IoW for a day trip easy on the train and boat or go to the lido on the train so plenty of cheap things to do. Or just stay at the camp and let the dc play. i wnet just with dd2 one year for a week and really loved it here.

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 16:27

Bertie, my kids are old enough to leave with one another and a mobile phone when I go out for a bit, I have never left them alone for a night out before, are there babysitting facilities you could pay?

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 16:28

I will bough out if it is camping.

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 16:32

I have found the the dc tend to stay up late on holiday.

There is usually evening entertainment laid on including for the dc, kids club, disco, bingo (that's not for dc), talent shows etc.

So even with toddlers you'll find they are awake and dancing away till probably 9 or 10 with no problem! Well it is their holiday too.../

Also people tend to congregate together for booze, takeaway, playing card/board games etc in groups. So depending on your choice (and being willing to invite yourself over as well as having others over to you) it'll be fine fun!

ivykaty44 · 22/01/2011 16:37

you would be looking at between £11 -£21 per night. so £77-£147 for the week

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 16:40

Camping isn't for me i'm afraid, so I too would bow out if it went that way.

Nothing to stop there being a camping trip and a chalet/caravan trip too. Do you want to start a thread for camping Ivy if there's enough who are interested?

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 16:43

Ivy, due to my personal circimstances, camping is not for me, the money saving aspect sounds good.

ivykaty44 · 22/01/2011 16:47

I doubt I would be able to come as have already booked the end of the summer and ex will hopefully (oh a pig flew over) have dd for a holdiay at the start of the summer hols as he has to have the first two weeks.

I was just trying to help - could you fidn somewhere which does cabins and tents to suit everyone's pocket and style?

beingsetup · 22/01/2011 17:28

I would, love to go on one :D

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 17:43

Is anyone (who wants to go away together) interested in either of the options I have posted up?
Being:

  1. Pontins @ camber sands
  2. Richardsons @ summerfield/great yarmouth
  3. neither - too expensive, date not convienient, or other reason (and being what?)

Does anyone have any others to throw in as possibles?

If you're not interested because of cost -
a) what is your budget if cost is an issue? b) Would you be prepared to share to bring down the cost if someone else was willing to share with you?

fairygirl3 · 22/01/2011 17:55

umm,am a new lp and may be interested, will keep watching,my choice would be 1 probably as i dont drive and live on south coast,my only worry is having been to pontins brean sands in a october half term it was very busy am wondering how packed it will be in summer school holidays, but good work gillybean ,thank you for your time.

Toastiewoastie · 22/01/2011 18:25

I would love to get away this summer. First two weeks of august sound fine to me, but my budget would be exceedingly low, about £100 for me and 1 DS (7 yo).

Happy to camp (but have no tent) or share apartment/chalet/youth hostel dorm.

Anywhere south-ish is fine by me, Devon/Cornwall ideal but I understand not poss for some.

Does not have to include entertainment, a few bottles of wine, some music, games and good company are fine.

BEAUTlFUL · 22/01/2011 18:53

Toastie Woastie, we could share? I have a 7 y/o DS (he'll be 8 then) who'd LOVE a "flatmate", and a 3 y/o DS. Happy to share to keep costs down?

OP posts:
Toastiewoastie · 22/01/2011 19:11

good plan! my ds will also be 8 by then too!

BringOnTheGoat · 22/01/2011 19:59

I'm liking option 1 and would be happy to share with someone else who has a baby/toddler - DD is 15 months.

I wouldn't be up for camping.

Re evenings - when I went away with friends before I settled DD in her buggy for a sleep at usual bed time and transferred her to cot when we got back from boozing watching the show with the older children.

iwillmakeit · 22/01/2011 20:40

Im still interested, only put off by there being 4 of us, ds7 & 5 and dd 3 by then. So wouldnt be able to share with anyone unless they were mad!Grin

Actually worried about bedtimes but now Ive typed out their ages not as young as I thought!Blush

Option 1 sounds good to me gilly (thank you for being so organised!) Will have a look at the link (went there as a child myself!)

Only not sure of G Yar as have put that down on my sun hols offer, the overexcitment of going there twice might prove too much!

But the thought of staying up late with grownups wld sway me...Wink
