North Devon has always had good reviews from people I know who have been there.

Ive been to Croyde Bay Unison a few times now, its not too expensive and the food is fab.

Dolly, that holiday park looks good, what is the accomodation like, is it far from the beach?

Dolly, I just noticed that the holiday park is for unison members, I am not one, so that park will not be any good for us.

Me too. I wonder if we could get any money off something booking as a group? Or would that be too tricky to organise?

I think the problem with group bookings is that if someone pulls out or lets you down we as a group may still liable for their share.
I once booked to go to CP with another single mum sharing a villa. She changed her mind after I'd booked but before she paid me claiming couldn't now afford it. I ended up paying the whole lot myself.

So yes we may get a discount but would need to be clear that each memeber of the party is entirely responsible for their own booking and that if people pulled out that we may lose the group discount.

I think if we're doing a group holiday then we need to consider that Devon/Cornwall may be too far for some from further north. Factoring in the cost of getting there can add huge cost.

Also are people willing to share or wanting their own accomodation? Caravan parks etc are great, but if you want your own space then it's much more expensive for a single adult with just the one child.

Could we not consider somewhere like centre parks where you have the option of booking a villa (more cost effective for those with more dc or happy to share) or booking the hotel which is cheaper for smaller family but obviously not selfcatering. I think Butlins offer a similar scheme too.

Also bear in mind that Easter hols falls at different times for different parts of the country so we may be restricted to a one week choice there. And summer will be the most expensive. Sometimes may half term can actually be the cheaper option if people are willing to consider that.

But yes, depending on where and when I may be interested in joining you.

Haven't stayed there myself but I know someone who did last year and has booked to go back again this year. We have been to teh area and stayed at a nearby caravan park and there are some really good things to do close by. Cambersands itself is a great beach and Hastings has the smugglers caves, aquarium, minigolf etc. And the best day out we had was at Knockhatch which is about an hour's drive away but well worth it.

Just chucking this in, youth hostels. You dont have to be a member and can hire out the whole place sometimes. Each family can have own room and everything else is communal(?).

I think basically someone will have to suggest a holiday and pick the dates and people either go with them or they don't.
Depends how much you want company for yourself/kids over the cost I guess.

I love the Youth Hostel idea. Camber Sands as well though Knockhatch is ten minutes from home for me! If I had a big house you all could stay!

For me, the distance from the beach is a big issue, also I need accomodation for 3 of us, I am also not keen on cooking on holiday, I likie the idea of the night time wine drinking on the holiday, although I am a lightweight as don't drink during the week.

I admit I'd only had very vague ideas of how we'd do it -- I was thinking we'd all book caravans on the same park BUT, a villa or a Youth Hostel (if we had the whole thing) would be miles better in the evenings, as we'd be able to sit around -drinking- having gown-up discussions with the kids asleep.

I love Centreparcs but isn't it £££££?

Reharding when - I was thinking summer holidays really, unless the price puts all of us off.

My budget is small - say, £300 max for accommodation (me and 2 kids, ages 3 and 8) for a week.

It'll be SO much fun, I just know it would. Kids playing all day, us relaxing... I took the kids away for 4 nights last year and it was OK, but dull in the evenings.

My two DS's are 11 and 9 and if we did the Youth Hostel thing they would love sleeping in a dorm with other boys. We stayed in a lovely hostel in York a couple of years ago but that would probably be too big.

Do youth hostel's provide bedding/towels etc?
