Oh why not. Shall we all try to book a holiday in the same week at, say, a cheap/cheerful caravan/camping place in the UK?

It'd be such a laugh if lots of us went.

So basically cost is the main issue for most people? Price of £300 for a family has been quoted, is that what the budget should be for each families accomodation then?

Generally seems people want to be near a beach and have some kind of evening social boozy facilities

After that...

Some people are happy to share, others aren't (bear in mind that if kids are sharing in a dorm adults would also have to bunk up or pay extra for private room)

Some people don't want to cook & some prefer self catering (assume if self catering others have options to get takeaway or eat out if pubs/restaurants near by)

Anything else specific that needs to be taken into account in narrowing it down?

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 12:33

I am happy to do self catering, if we are in a situation like the hostel to ourselves and we all put money in the pot and pitch in with cooking/shopping/washing up etc... one cooking and one washing up per meal that type of thing, I just hate going on holiday and it feeling like at home with regards to cooking.

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 12:41

For me personally I would not be interested in a youth hostel. I would be happy with a caravan park or pontins/park/butlins type holiday though. Being in a group makes them a lot more fun.

I suggest the following as options:

Pontins somewhere, possibly camber sands www.pontins.com/search-results/?centrename=any&searchmonth=8&searchyear=2011&event=1&length=4&submit=

park resort possibly at winchelsea beach (near rye/camber sands) www.parkholidaysuk.com/static-caravans-for-sale/east-west-sussex-holiday-parks/winchelsea-sands-beach-rye

richardsons possibly at hembsy in norfolk www.richardsonsholidayparks.co.uk

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 12:44

here's a better link for teh park resort holidays www.parkholidaysuk.com/search

Thank God for lovely organised Gillybean2.

I'd happily do a Pontins-type place. That's the sort of place I took the kids last year, and they loved it and I got Blush really quite into the Bingo.

One thing to keep in mind is how we're all going to sit around chatting/laughing in the evenings after the kids are asleep. Will we have caravans right next to each other? We'd have to, otherwise it'll go a bit Madeline. Shock

just a thought
would it be easier to decide a location and than people could do their own booking either for their family or in small groups also according to what they prefer/can afford?
is it a daft suggestion?

ps: i think it is my agoraphobia speaking at the thought of a huge resort Wink

Hi - I've not been around here so please tell me if it's regulars only - but I'd love to come on a LP holiday - am recently single mum to one (15 month old DD) Smile

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 14:52

I am a regular,(have name changed after Riven incident, as I have shared far too much info and there has been a lot in the press about mn lately, including posting on aladygarden thread once Grin[blush), I can't see it being a problem personally if you are new to the site, I can only speak for myself personally.

BringOnTheGoat · 22/01/2011 14:55

Sorry - I wasn't clear- I've been on MN a while - am an inveterate name changer though - but am haven't been around the LP board Smile

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 14:57

BeeandSon that's pretty much how I see it working. Guess it all depends who is the first to take the plunge and book in the hope others join or change their mind about where to go...

I think we should probably work out which dates work for all/most, then we can being to narrow down to an area people are happy with a price.

We usually have plans the first week of the hols and are already booked to be away the last week in august. Therefore personally I'd prefer it to be one of the first two weeks in August but can be a bit flexible if that doesn't suit everyone (bearing in mind some have to book time off work and arrange sharing hols with ex's and all that fun)

I think we've sort of agreed summer hols..? So what dates suits you all best?

gillybean2 · 22/01/2011 14:58

Goat of course you're as welcome as any of us are. Can't think why you would think you wouldn't be!

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 15:00

The first two weeks in August sounds good to me, I think we will just come for one week though. More towards the south of the country for the better weather please.

BringOnTheGoat · 22/01/2011 15:06

I've never been around here before so didn't know if it was a close knit thing - also H walking out was a bit of a knock to the self esteem so feeling bit paranoid (who said that!?!) Grin
Great to hear we're welocme along - I currently have the last week of July and August off but could get the first week in August off if I'm quick Smile

BEAUTlFUL · 22/01/2011 15:07

First two wees in August is good for me! Caravan is also good, south is perfect... I think Camber Sands type area would be ideal.

Hooray! This'll be fun.

BEAUTlFUL · 22/01/2011 15:08

And yes, I think one week would be perfect, but I can do either of the first two weeks in August.

Goat, that sounds good to me. Do you know about shops/restaurants in the resort?

BradTittAndFlange · 22/01/2011 15:13

One of the earlier links Swallowed, had a Saturday free taxi service to the train station.

Me again.
Hope I'm not bulldozing on here - wasn't even my thread but I guess I'm keen!

I just rang pontins and they have quite a lot of availability for a 4 day break starting monday 1st August at Camber Sands. They have some early booking deals at the moment too.

The website shows:
Classic 2 Bedroom Apartment, Self Catering, 4 Night Break starting 1st August for £384 (you pay £5 more if you want ground floor but if you have an under 2 this is waived). This sleeps up to 8 (including on sofa beds)

At the moment they have 47 of these. We can book individually but could be grouped together if we give details of other booking numbers already booked when we book.

They also have:
Budget 1 Bedroom Apartment, Self Catering, 4 Night Break starting 1st August for £294. This sleeps up to 5. Bear in mind this is Budget so may be further away from amenitoes etc (though was told we could still possibly be grouped near each other so hopefully not miles from the other accomodation)

Or if you're a bit more flush you can have
Club 2 Bedroom Apartment, Self Catering, 4 Night Break starting 1st August for £435.60. You get extras with this including towels, electric and a microwave.

See website for more info on each of these options.

I can vouch for the area being lovely as we went to Winchelsea sands caravan park last May. I know someone who went to this Pontins last year and has booked to go again this year (twice in fact). So must be ok..!?

There looks to be a station at Rye which isn't too far away. If there's no taxi I'm sure we could possibly get you a lift from there depending on what time you arrive etc

Anyone else got anything concrete to suggest as an option?
