I know we are all used to loud people but what is everyone's honest opinion??

Could be a linguistics question. 'What do you think of London English, people?'
Not keen on the flatness of the vowels but don't mind a bit of rhyming slang.

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 12:53

When I think of London English people, I think of the Pearly Kings and Queens, and I suppose you could describe their clothing choices as fairly loud.

ChompandaGrazia · 19/04/2025 12:54

Who is we? Who are we? What is the question?

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 12:57

Who are you and where do you live?
😂

I think @LindaGreatBeautymummy drinks and posts. Which is unfortunate, as she claims elsewhere to be very pregnant.

Lazery · 19/04/2025 13:06

As a Welsh person am I able to comment op or do you only want responses from English people?

I’m assuming you are asking English people about London.

Agapornis · 19/04/2025 13:16

What are you wittering about? I’m a born Londoner but no longer live there, do I count in whatever nonsense you’re spouting?

Me too. I think I'm alright

Depending on where we’re putting the comma:

needing to change the bed sheets, when to finish marking, what to do on Monday
I love it and feel blessed to live here
I think they’re/ we’re a highly diverse group so it’s hard to say

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 13:35

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I love London so,
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I think of her, wherever I go,
I get a funny feeling inside of me
Just walking up and down,
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner,
That I love London Town.

<and no, I didn't have to look those words up...>

Not in St John's Wood, dear.

FeebasAquarium · 19/04/2025 14:02

Am a born and bred Londoner and I’m delightful so there’s that, I have however moved to Hampshire and I almost never say innit anymore.
my mum is still there and is lovely as are her neighbours (except for Wendy at number 4 who my mum has fallen out with over a parking space and is now not taking her parcels in)
(I actually think Wendy was right but I’m not having that discussion with my mum in order to maintain my aura of delightfulness)

Ah yes, the Mumsnet collective, as in "When are we putting our heating on"? "What trainers are we wearing this year."? Now it's, "What do we think of London English people."?

I want to walk the Camino!

Can we keep to the thread topic please? Actually, what is the thread topic!

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 19/04/2025 14:34

I was brought up in London. Have never been accused of being loud in my life.

mondaytosunday · 19/04/2025 14:45

Are London people louder than everyone else? That’s not my experience. Anyway London people are, generally, friendly, busy, diverse and probably originally from somewhere else! I was born in London, grew up abroad, and have happily returned.

I prefer the English spoken by people in the provinces.

Perhaps @LindaGreatBeautymummy could come and clarify the punctuation, and, therefore, the question?
Was it meant to be;
A) What do we think of London, English people?
B) What do we think of London English, people?
Or C) as written but awkwardly constructed: What do we think of London English people?
Hmm? 🧐

Three different possible answers there.

  1. It's still great I think, but it's not what it used to be. Three times as many people, for a start.

  2. It sounds completely different to the London English I grew up with, that's for sure.

  3. They are a dying breed. It's mostly forrins in London now. Or young English people from the counties who will move back to the counties eventually.
