What do we think of London English people?

I know we are all used to loud people but what is everyone's honest opinion??

OP posts:
Needmorelego · 19/04/2025 12:25

Well the woman who lives across the road from me is loud. Very much the type of person who always seems some kind of problem in her life which she enjoys telling you about if you bump into her.
The bloke further up the road with the dog is silent. Never heard him utter a word. Nor the dog. Not even a little "woof".
So that two out of millions of people......

BanjoKnockers · 19/04/2025 12:27

I think it's "what do we think of, London English people?"

I think of kittens and doughnuts, but I'm a London Irish person, so I don't think I'm included.

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 12:27

@Needmorelego I think that's a representative enough example right there.

50% of our survey are loud, the other 50% are quiet. Bob's your uncle. Probably.

LeticiaMorales · 19/04/2025 12:28

I am very quiet, as is my son. My daughter is quite loud.
So 2/3 in our patch.

Needmorelego · 19/04/2025 12:29

@canthavethatonethen 😂

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/04/2025 12:30

I’m a Londoner. Haven’t lived there for years. I’m pretty quiet, always have been.

Can’t account for the other several million ….

FearistheMindKillerr · 19/04/2025 12:30

My lived experience is that London non-English people are louder.

Is that what you are asking?

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 12:31

Most of my London relatives are as quiet as the grave. Which is what you'd expect since most of them are in Highgate Cemetery.

EveryKneeShallBow · 19/04/2025 12:33

Never been. No idea. Is it tea time, nurse?

Strewth, a fourth option! Well played!

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 12:34

What do you mean by London?

The City, the City plus old London boroughs, or everything within the M25? Which is pretty loud in itself.

I think of cats, women’s rights & crochet. I’ve been a London English person for over half my life so hopefully that counts.

What were you for just under the other half?

WinterFoxes · 19/04/2025 12:37

It could be: what do you think of, London English people?
Today, I think of training for walking the Camino and how to ice the Easter cake I baked.

I want to walk the Camino!

BlackberrySky · 19/04/2025 12:41

Well I'm currently sitting in my London garden listening to the birds and not much else. Earlier I was at the shops, which were quite a bit louder. There was also one of those boy racer cars with a loud engine. 🤷‍♀️

I grew up in Essex & moved to London in my 20s.

dogcatkitten · 19/04/2025 12:42

Haven't been there for years, but I'm told it's still there, on the news quite a bit.

Could be people in London are loud because they have to shout over the traffic noise, but that is common to most busy towns and cities. Was that the question?

PowderMonkeys · 19/04/2025 12:42

Your post reminds me of the importance of punctuation in clarifying meaning, personally, but I’m an ex-Londoner, and not English, so not clear whether I count.

redgingerbread · 19/04/2025 12:43

HELLO I AM A LONDON ENGLISH PERSON but I’m actually quite quiet most of the time. And I would love to walk the Camino!

canthavethatonethen · 19/04/2025 12:47

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/04/2025 12:41

I grew up in Essex & moved to London in my 20s.

Essex for me too, but I bucked the trend and moved to Hertfordshire. My parents were Londoners though, born and bred. Well until you go back more than a couple of generations and find all the Germans, Irish, Portuguese, Scots and Devonians in there as well.

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/04/2025 12:47

It partly depends on what you call London. I live in zone 4, 10 mins walk from a tube station & don’t have a London postcode. My bit is quite quiet.

hoopyvest · 19/04/2025 12:49

It's definitely 'What do you think of, London English people?' IMO.

My answers include: food, drink, football, my allotment, sex.

beetr00 · 19/04/2025 12:50

@heldinadream do you mean SPaG?

@redgingerbread STOP SHOUTING, you noisy Londoner

such a ridiculous thread 😂

seriously though, although London is a fabulous city, couldn't wait to escape, personally🌻

Miaowzabella · 19/04/2025 12:51

Who's this "we"?
