Time for a new thread!!

Mellow, congratulations!

Dusty, ds2 would look so cool with a Beatles haircut

Pc, sorry you've all been ill, glad you're on the mend. Can't believe ds will be 2

Vbus, well done on getting dh into the spare room, dh refuses to move from our bed when he's ill!! Hope he's all better for your holiday, where are you going?

We're also ready for a holiday, am waiting for The Sun cheapie deals to start up again!

vbus meant to say hope the building goes well, maybe fit in some costs before VAT goes up in the new year

vbus · 28/07/2010 12:43

Sfx - this is the main reason why we're getting the work done this year hopefully, thanks Dave

M&S for 2nd wk running still don't have shirts in DS1 size have everything else apart from shoes which I won't buy til the end of hols. Anyway nice morning out with just DS2, hope DS1 enjoying his holiday camp, never seen him so excited

Must a have a quick snooze now before ds2 wakes!

sfxmum · 28/07/2010 13:09

vbus am doing my best to be fair to Dave, he has been doing some things right, but the balance is for the moment on 'OMG we are quite doomed if we loose our jobs' is still heavy

took dd to hairdresser she obviously know what she wants I was quite surplus to requirements
now for tidy and packing

tillyfernackerpants · 28/07/2010 16:29

Hi all,

sfx/vbus, 7.30pm tonight yes? Am v excited!!

Not much else to report, got back from my parents yesterday, bathroom still in a bit of a state (dh redecorating while we were away) but at least it looks better than it did!

vbus · 28/07/2010 16:33

Holiday camp was a big success, so have booked DS1 in every Weds for rest of hols. He said he loved it but wanted DS2 to come next time, awww

On with the canneloni...

is that the time best text dh with reminder, he always forgets

vbus good he enjoyed the club

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/07/2010 11:13

Hello!

Just been out to local independent bookshop to see if I can find any Saramago or a book for DS1 which is the right level and NOT Horrid Henry. Came back empty handed ... But I don't want to use Amazon again. They already get too much of my money...

sfx - which Saramago book would you recommend? I was hoping for The elephant's journey, but have never read any. Read last Rebus book and sick of light-weight novels. Want proper book and read a review of Elephant's journey which sounds good.

Muffin looks good. Might try it. But DS2 refuses to eat raisins and DS1 doesn't like nuts in cakes. That's how to make sure I get to eat everything.

How was movie?

sfxmum · 29/07/2010 11:35

lorcopper

  • movie very enjoyable thanks
  • Saramago I love The Gospel according to Jesus Christ, one of the few books that made me cry with rage and sorrow, but maybe you would have to have been brought up a Catholic
but better for start would be Blindness (film good too) and Baltasar&Blimunda
  • but I understand he can be hard work (!?) very long sentences and not clearly demarcated dialogue, although I have never found him hard, wickedly funny yes

sorry I did go on a bit but I do love him

dd&dh off to fetch a car I have the annoying idea I am missing something, hall looks like camping shop.

sfxmum · 29/07/2010 11:37

I will be reading the Elephant and Cain in the original, friend bringing them from Portugal

tillyfernackerpants · 29/07/2010 12:33

copper, film was enjoyable, no brain required . I think your ds1 is a little older than my ds1 is that right? He's now starting to get into chapter books like Jeremy Strong's Pirate School and Flat Stanley. But not sure if they're a little young for your ds1

Bit all those ds1's!

vbus/sfx, thanks for film trip. Harry Potter next I guess

Sfx, hope you have a good trip, muffins look good. All baking on hold in my house as put the oven on last night to do tea & it wasn't even warm 40 mins later! Am hoping it's the seals that can be fixed & we don't have to splash out on a new one (yet)!

vbus · 29/07/2010 13:21

Sfx/Tilly thanks for night out, it was fun film was good although rather a lot of snogging going on

Thanks for recipe, will try those

Enjoy festival

Tilly - hope you get your oven fixed

Been to playground today but quiet afternoon for us as DS1 v. tried after yesterday

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/07/2010 10:44

Hello!

Will try the library tomorrow for books. Any other good independent bookshops around? Sometimes I despair. One can't get everything from the Oxfam bookshop with the best will in the world.

Baked ginger coffee cake. Very peculiar. Not sure if it's genius or just plain weird yet. Must have a few more slices.

vbus · 30/07/2010 16:58

Copper - I like Langham or Langdon(?) on Church St, Twicks, it's a lovely bookshop. Not sure if they'll have what you're after but it's nice place to visit plus they have a lovely coffee shop. Have not been for ages. Fara bookshop on Tedd high st also worth checking out

Have been picnicking at Bushy all afternoon, was good fun but we're all worn out now, early bed time all round I think

tillyfernackerpants · 30/07/2010 19:46

Copper, we go to the Owl and the Pussycat on Northfields Ave, craft shop next door and Lammas Park just up the road, plus lots of cafes make it quite a nice morning/afternoon trip!

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 30/07/2010 20:10

tilly - I like the Owl and the Pussycat but they are not that big on grown-up books ... Craft shop is nice too. Let us know next time you are there - we can do the pancake cafe!

tillyfernackerpants · 30/07/2010 21:24

That's true, they do only have a small selection of grown-up books. Am sure we'll be heading over there again over the holidays, will let you know!

UptoapointLordCopper · 02/08/2010 13:22

Hello!

Where is everybody?

sfxmum · 02/08/2010 16:50

hello people we are back in London

lordcopper forgot to add about books that dd loves Alice in Wonderland/ Through the looking glass, The Gasket bookshere
I think I have mentioned them before
Winnie the Pooh, Princess Mirrorbell there might be others too tired now, will have a think

The Festival was a total riot, if you think Latitude is child friendly this is Child Central with willing parents attached
I can do a review of all the fab fab stuff on offer but highlights were Mt Tumble, honestly Justin deserves a knighthood, watched Opera in a fantastic setting with dd totally engaged (no fancy costumes, audience involved)
Friendly Fires and Calvin Harris were great, the fireworks at the end were spectacular

  • missed all but 2 songs of Billy Bragg

fantastic experience highly recommend
some niggles but is only their 3rd year I think

had the best meal at the River Cottage Cafe and they undercharged me too

sfxmum · 02/08/2010 22:03

lordcopper meant to add The Lion&the Unicorn is a lovely bookshop in Richmond down the side street by the department store, they have books up to the teens
there is another one but I can't quite recall the name
