Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

sfxmum · 03/03/2010 13:32

wave to steppie
dd still determined to be Jeremy Fisher got green face paint

am supposed to read to the children in Portuguese why did I agree to that?

am going to a gig on Friday, can't wait really need to jump around in mindless fashion

tillyfernackerpants · 03/03/2010 13:44

Ds1 wants to be the gingerbread man, otherwise the tiger who came to tea

Copper, I like the make a book idea instead! Is that yours or the school?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 03/03/2010 13:48

tilly - school competition to make book. It's a better idea, isn't it? Especially since DS1 does it all without intervention.

sfx - is there a point to reading to the kids in Portuguese? Do they understand it?

vbus · 03/03/2010 13:51

Hello all

Sfx - bet DD will be a cute JF! Thankfully nursery kids don't have to dress up Have Book fair today so will buy some books for DC instead
BTW nothing like a bit of healthy competition on the running front Hope your training is going well.

Tilly - hope you've all recovered from bugs. We all have colds and DS1 has some ridiculous cough and has brought up 2 of his meals after his coughing fits.

Slng - at article, only in the Mail!

DS2 took his 1st step on Sunday. He has shown no sign of wanting to walk since then

Kewcumber · 03/03/2010 14:49

no world book day costume here though general "dressing up day " tomorrow for money though proceeds all go to the very worthy charity next door (REACT) - but how much is the done things at these un-named contribution days (we haven't had one before).

DS is going as Ben10 [exasperated emoticon]

UptoapointLordCopper · 03/03/2010 16:15

Kew - usually our "donations" are 50p.

sfxmum · 03/03/2010 20:53

vbus yeah for ds2
about competition it is quite fun I quite like running with him we do interval sessions

lordcopper there are 5 children who speak Portuguese ans they are getting parents who speak different languages to come and read

hope to feel better tomorrow had enough of sneezing and coughing falling behind on the training

vbus · 04/03/2010 18:02

Sfx - who are you going to see tom?

Dh rang to say he now has a stomach bug just as the DC are getting better, it never ends. I still have a cold, hope it's on it's way out soon, don't like it. I made a huge fish pie today but looks like only me who ate some of it, now DH can't have any, I hate wasting food.

sfxmum · 04/03/2010 18:24

hello all

my laptop is to be 'updated' tonight dh will be let loose on it, it may be some time

dd was keen to go to school today in her green face painting, towards the end of the day I read a short poem in Portuguese it was written by a small boy, dh read them a 'little red train' book and a grandfather read mrs Pepperpot

vbus going to see Idlewild in a small venue in Wimbledon

sfxmum · 04/03/2010 18:25

vbus meant to add sorry about the awful bug hope the rest of you stay bug free

must make fish pie soon it has been a while

vbus · 04/03/2010 19:25

Sfx - glad reading went well. Here, you can have my pie
Idlewild, blast from the past, I do like them, enjoy!

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2010 20:01

Hello!

vbus - sorry to hear about bugs. No bugs here - so far - but I've got a sore throat on the way, I think... Hoping to cure it with a fierce Thai red curry.

Never made fish pie. Must try soon. Local Waitrose even do "fish pie mix" ... But have a feeling that while the kids like fish, and pie, they might not like them combined ...

Who is Jeremy Fisher?

Did anyone hear the radio programme on the infant brain? Very interesting. Have always known that babies are pure intellectuals. > Not much else they can do, I suppose...

sfxmum · 04/03/2010 20:20

lorscopper jeremy fisher she always liked this story makes us read it to her countless times.
about babies will listen I like that programme ususaly has proper experts but I really dislike Melvyn Bragg have to pretend it is not him

vbus they have a new album out and are always good value

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2010 21:06

sfx - I don't mind him on radio. He's a valiant man. Having heard him persevere through all kinds of hard science and maths it makes you think how much more fun the world would be if people persevere rather than just throw up their hands and say proudly "oh I'm no good at maths".

sfxmum · 04/03/2010 21:20

I only have A level Mathematics biology and Chemistry physics but I think he knows even less, can be quite funny, his contributions on history and literature are more robust

back to more telly it is my favourite telly night

I think dh will wait until I am out of the house to get into my laptop he tells me I h over while he his trying to play work

Kewcumber · 05/03/2010 11:23

you ONLY have A level Maths biology chem and Physics?

Blimey I only have A level Maths, Physics and Chemistry and I consider myself pretty clued up compared to most people (though did do "further" physics, quantum mechanics particle physics (quarks and glu-ons etc) and such like. Mind you, Quarks were only a theory in them there days and were only actually observed way after I left school makes me feel old. And slightly nerdy, now I come to think of it.

Kewcumber · 05/03/2010 11:25

PS

Gluons (yes pronounced glue-ons) are the massless bits of energy which stick quarks together and quarks were indeed names after the sound a duck makes!

Don't ya just love physics?

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/03/2010 12:01

Me too sfx. Same A levels. Ne ne ne ne ne to Kew. But didn't do "further" anything. Quantum physics is hard stuff, isn't it? But attracts nut cases at parties wanting to discuss implication of quantum physical laws in human behaviour, like the much maligned Uncertainty Principle (probably).

mellow2 · 05/03/2010 17:57

Vbus - hope DCs and you feel better soon.

I don't have any A-levels so you all trump me.

Hope everyone will have a nice weekend.

vbus · 05/03/2010 19:12

Thanks Mellow, DC seem better but Dh took today off work so he must be bad he hardly ever does that.

I have 4 A levels but one of them was General studies, did anyone else do that? It was compulsory at our college.

Have Star Trek on dvd might watch that if DH up to it.

I'm v.proud DS1 grew a daffodil, sure sign that Spring is here!

tillyfernackerpants · 05/03/2010 19:58

vbus, I did General Studies, though not compulsory . Plus I failed my A levels, yet still managed to keep my conditional place at uni

Glad the dc's are better! Dh hasn't had it yet but my parents have.

Hope tomorrow is as nice as today, planning on heading to Kew

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 05/03/2010 21:58

"Have Star Trek on dvd" - much the same as physics A level really My physics teacher was a big fan of their use of anti-matter.

I won the school physics prize in the sixth form - does that count as an extra A level? Mind you it was a prize akin to the "you are king" prize won by the one-eyed man in the land of the blind. No-one did more than 8 O levels and 3 A levels at my school (though I did sneak an extra O level in stats during my A levels).

Though you should bear in mind that this was a school which offered a GSCE in "horticultural studies" in the days when such things were unheard of but looked slightly startled when I asked if Oxbridge was a possibility!

sfxmum · 05/03/2010 23:00

LOL at A level chat I just meant that was as far as got, I think I have mentioned that although I don't understand it find String theory/ theories fascinating pretty much borders on phylosophy
and besides I always liked social policy and literature best

vbus well done on daffodil we have some basil growing and a few other I think, it is dd&dh's project

gig was so much fun proper moshing, teeny venue lots of singing and jumping along, odd start time though doors opened at 5.30 pm, gig done before 9, so clearly for old folk like me, or maybe it is just because it is Wimbledon

my laptop looks very different now must spent time looking for al my stuff tomorrow , looks like dh had fun

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2010 15:27

Hello!

What a nice day! And we are watching Ice Age 3 again and thoroughly enjoying it!

sfxmum · 07/03/2010 12:44

hello another gorgeous day, did 10k along the river with support team on bike
a little bit of sunshine just makes such a difference

hope everyone is having a nice weekend
