Hi all, can't believe I have to start the new thread

Slng, lol @ ds2!

Sfx, sparkle sounds nice!

I'm having to bribe ds1 to leave the house atm, that can't be right surely

He had his nativity yesterday, all lines remembered though there was a bit of yawning during it

parent brought dim sum (guessing from DS's description) into nurery today to compliment CHinese NEw Year week. Apparently he was one of the few who fell on them like a gannet Ma was warned he may not eat much lunch

Hvae been instructed by DS to find out how to make them. Was thinking of buying in Sainsbury's and passing them off as mine...

tillyfernackerpants · 10/02/2010 19:51

kew, lol.

Ds1 has been invited round to a friend's for Chinese New Year on Friday. I think I'm looking forward to it more than him, especially as the parents always do lovely food

Sfx, am about teacher's assessment of dd! Sometimes children are quieter, and want their own space occasionally! I suppose they have to be seen to be doing something just in case, of what I don't know.

Well we had the sardines. As thought, ds1 turned his nose up but then I told him it was tuna and he wolfed it down

sfxmum · 10/02/2010 19:58

thanks all for moral support

we will be going for Dim Sum on Monday with friends not sure if Teddington or Barnes apparently 2 places and 2 cuisines to try but nor sure which is which

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2010 20:00

Kew - we love dim sum too. Perhaps there ought to be a joint outing ... As for making them, I do the easy ones now and then but leave the difficult ones to the experts! It's serious cooking ...

tilly - LOL at DS1. Was it bones and all? I should try that on the kids too ...

Kewcumber · 10/02/2010 21:36

He desscribed them as being like sausage rolls! I can only think dim sum of some sort...

Dimsum outing would be nice to celebrate Chinese New year, any suggestions?

Why are all CNY celebrations on 21st Feb [confused emoticon]

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/02/2010 22:06

Dim sum on Friday after half-term outing?

Don't know why celebrations are on 21st. too.

SushiMummy · 11/02/2010 09:41

Morning all. Freezing cold! I am dreaming of a tropical holiday now (unlikely as DH gets burnt easily).

We went to this rather authentic chinese restaurant situated on top of this supermarket for dim sum last weekend. Highly recommended.

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/02/2010 10:03

Good morning!

Sushi - that's our local!

Dramatic noodle-making.

sfxmum · 11/02/2010 12:40

slng that is a bit much for me in the morning

I should really go running otherwise the 10k at the end of March is going to be a nightmare
but am soooo lazy maybe can drag dh out tomorrow, he will be home for bring a man to school day

hope everyone is well today

vbus · 11/02/2010 13:33

Hello all

Slng - v. dramatic indeed!

Sfx - when I initially read SALT observerving DD I thought you meant that they were studying the whole class, wouldn't occur to me that they'd single out DD Any update? DS1 can become self conscious in a group setting and prefers to do his own thing sometimes too. That's just his nature...

Tilly - LOL at sardine story, might try that on the DC.

had a friend over for dinner last night, nice chats and wine. So this morning I appreciated a nice lie down for 20mins when DS1 could not find me hiding under the bed during hide and seek, bliss! DS2 kept calling 'mummy' and DS1 kept saying 'mummy's disappeared'

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/02/2010 18:02

Kids had grilled mackerel for tea, inspired by tilly and her sardines. And we have started on the chinese new year goodies ...

Pretty impressive noodle-making though, isn't it?

vbus · 11/02/2010 19:32

half term officially starts here in our house, inset day tom. Will be nice not to have to rush back after music class tomorrow.

Kew - fest looks good. Not sure we will go this yr, wuold like to but I think DS2 may be a bit young yet...we were thinking we might go to a one dayer minus the kids instead

sfxmum · 11/02/2010 19:39

can't wait for half term hate all the timetables

dd told me today that Miriam told her to tell her mummy not to send too much food in lunchbox relative surely and I don't really mind if she does not eat
I might comment on this tomorrow apparently Miriam is a TA in another year

on way home a bigger girl told me dd does not eat much at school

dustythedolphin · 11/02/2010 19:52

SFX methinks your DD is super intelligent, maybe misunderstood by average school teachers?

Welcome to the newbies, specially those who live by cake and wine

We've recent;y emograted to Ireland but wld highly reccommend the west London Mummies xxxxx (feels all nostalgic)

UptoapointLordCopper · 11/02/2010 20:13

No half term for us yet. DS1 invited new friend to play tomorrow. Very exciting.

sfx - it seems TAs have all kinds of jobs, including supervising lunches. Takes a while for kids to settle down to optimal lunch-consumption, I think. These days I more or less get it "right" but there are still days when half didn't get eaten. Sushi is always demolished.

sfxmum · 11/02/2010 20:57

wave to dusty aren't you a returnee rather than an emigrant?
very sweet of you I think dd is pretty normal am very much herself

tomorrow dh will spend the afternoon at school apparently she chose to play football with daddy and also do some weaving, should be fun for them

vbus are you traumatising the children

need to do some more course work but all seems to be going ok

tilly have you moved up a level now? how are you finding it?

tillyfernackerpants · 12/02/2010 15:08

waves to dusty

vbus, lol at hide and seek game!

Half-term now, yay, no school runs

Ds1 has had his first Chinese new year experience at a friend's house. Was proud as he tried all of the food (will usually say he doesn't like it before even tasting it), we now have to have spring rolls at home!

OP posts:
vbus · 12/02/2010 15:36

Hi Dusty - how are things going? have you charmed the locals yet?

Tilly - that's great DS1 liked the chinese food. My DS1 has also requested spring rolls for tea! Nice to have a break from the school run

Sfx - I can assure there was lots of giggling involed all round! How did daddy get on at school?

Where is PMP?!?

Dh back from NY tom morning. DS1 has another party and then we're off to Wales til Weds. looking fwd to seeing you all plus DC next Fri

vbus · 12/02/2010 16:17

DS1 just told me that it's only 11 sleeps til he's back at nursery, I think he's missing the place already

sfxmum · 12/02/2010 16:26

hello all

tilly I think we will have some sort of Chinese type thing from M&S ahead of dim sum Monday really looking forward to it, have list of favourites to nibble hope dd likes it

huge success at bring a man to school day,dh exhausted, dd back to school Wednesday week

vbus yes I can see that was fun

dd got a couple of 'up steps' today one for eating all her food the second for being so sociable and helpful

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/02/2010 20:14

Hello!

Had DS1's friend round to play and having forbidden computer games was obliged to go without the computer myself. Suffering withdrawal symptoms now. I think we were a great disappointment, having a small telly and not having Sky. But otherwise a nice little friend.

sfx - where are you going on Monday for dim sum?

We are eating very sticky and sweet chinese new year cake, designed to sweeten and bind the mouth of the kitchen god so he doesn't tell on the bad-doings of the household. Not sure we are supposed to eat the stuff before chinese new year but hay ho.

UptoapointLordCopper · 12/02/2010 20:16

sfx - what did dh have to do at bring-a-man-day? Not sure what to think about it either. How about give-your-mum-a-medal-for-being-an-excellent-slave-most-of-the-time day? I suppose it's not going to happen...

sfxmum · 12/02/2010 20:59

copper - I think dh did weaving and some sort of collages, options included football, cooking, gardening etc
I don't mind the idea as men are often less involved and they try to bring dads together with other dads, the school gate can be very female, but there were also grandparents uncles stepdads older siblings etc

apparently they set up activities in the different classrooms /garden/ playground

not sure where I am going Thai friend taking us I usually just sit and eat

dustythedolphin · 13/02/2010 21:01

We're fine, just been to a wee little church by the sea, really cute

We love it here and settling bit by bit, tho missing flexible working (I am needing to do all my hours in office ATM as am new and have 4 brand new staff, we're all settling) and a decent veggie curry (less veggie stuff here generally)

Had my first work jolly last week - 2 days in Hotel on River Shannon, with lovely pool and jacuzzi, so cannot complain. But work very intense and sad sometimes. Have just made one person redundant and am investigating another ... and overseeing an office move...tiring but I think it will be hard for first 3 months then much easier as new staff structures and locations and new IT system settle in

We get St Patrick's Day off so am looking forward to a wild auld time in Town - be interesting to see how the locals celebrate

Lovely neighbours, who are becoming friends, but am missing you all and our Grrls Nights Out

Kewcumber · 14/02/2010 11:11

New jobs always exhausting dusty, combined with new house and new life - I think I'd be on my knees!

We're are off on a spur of the moment trip to Beckinscot model village (never been). Just me and my valentines date!
