Eastend, bus stop is really nice - we went last week and I liked it. You need to get your name on the waiting list - which may not be long.

Yes - night out is definitely needed!

dd starts full-time tomorrow and I am feeling really sad today tomorrow it will be just me and ds in the park which won't feel right

vbus · 21/09/2009 14:55

Hello all

PCW - Wow, DD full time already, have a hankie at the ready. When is bus stop btw? I'm trying a new playgroup in H.Wick on Weds will let you know what it's like.

Sfx - maybe we should have 2 nights out drinks on Thurs and maybe go for meal on the 10th, what does everyone think?

Watched Slumdog last night, I liked it

As for wkend meet up I have an idea, I took DS1 to Jolly tots on Sun 10-12 at Teddington Sports centre, he loved it. Loads of inflatables and bouncy castle, 1st session is free. Will be going this Sun if anyone cares to join us it would be great to catch up

Best go and pick up the boy wonder now. DS2 naps are well random since nursery started and typically I now have to go and wake him, I hate doing that

sfxmum · 21/09/2009 15:15

pcW I am not ready for that

vbus am planning on going shopping with sis on Sunday, dh owes me some weekend free time
shame as dd missed her WL friends

glad to report dd is enjoying school but I really am not, no not at all just to social for me

OP posts:
pcworld · 21/09/2009 16:19

vbus, wish I'd known you were at Jolly Tots, ds and I spent an hour wandering around Teddington / at the park while dd went swimming with dh - their one-to-one time Will let you know about this Sunday, I'm not sure if we're around. Bus Stop is a smaller version of Cheeky Monkeys - around 35 attendees - the same people each week, which is nice. Have a look on the St Stephens website, there is a contact number there for Caroline.

Two nights out sounds great!

sfxmum · 21/09/2009 16:25

does everyone have school mums coffee mornings and evening drinks already in their diary? is this normal?

would love 2 nights out but I don't really drink any more

last time I went out with dh we had dinner at Verde on Sandycombe very nice food must find reliable babysitter as we could do with going out more

OP posts:
pcworld · 21/09/2009 17:04

Nope, we have no school events in our diary and to be honest, so far, I have not come across too many friendly faces! On the one hand, I don't mind, on the other .... but dd loves it and seems really happy.

SFX, you could still come out for a drink - the chances are I will be driving, anyway - unless the venue is on my doorstep - so I won't be drinking alcohol. Sadly!

sfxmum · 21/09/2009 17:21

pcW what I need is t get a job and send the au pair to do school run or dh

OP posts:
slng · 21/09/2009 17:48

We don't have coffee mornings but we do have friendly faces. I quite enjoy the dropping off and picking up, TBH. We've made friends with a few families where we go or they come to play in the afternoons, so it's quite nice. I just don't like the getting them out of the door bit... My friend in Kingston has coffee mornings and school mums nights out etc. Which she likes because she's the sociable type... I won't mind a few nights out myself.

sfxmum · 21/09/2009 18:01

slng&pcW I think people are friendly enough just wish it stuck to talking about the weather and so on for a few minutes each day

just realised Waking the dead is back I like watching that

OP posts:
slng · 21/09/2009 18:24

sfx - we more often than not talk about recipes Very stereotypical. But I like it.

I was a few waking the dead episodes. It's far too grim for me. I have a sense-of-humour and suspension-of-disbelief (or is it suspension of belief???) suspension when it's about dead children. Perhaps it was a particularly grim episode, the one about war criminals. Now I'll just go and have my nightmares ...

vbus · 21/09/2009 19:18

PCW - that's too bad I'm sure your DS would've loved Jolly tots, we only decided to go last minute though split shift with the kids is much easier

Lots of friendly faces here but no coffee mornings. I tend to see some mums at the park after nursery which is nice.
I am however thinking of putting DS2 into childcare so that I have time each day to review all the masses of newsletters/emails I'm getting from the school There are loads of dates in the diary for all manner of events . Can't complain they don't keep me informed

vbus · 21/09/2009 19:22

Boiler update: Plumber spent another hr here today and finally identified the problem, will need to order new parts and then come back to fit them. We're getting there, good job weather is so nice atm

slng · 21/09/2009 19:38

vbus - some days I feel I need a PA just to keep track of what's going on where and when and how much to pay who for what when. Or is that "pay whom"? And I need a housekeeper. Can someone get me a housekeeper for Christmas?

DS1 a bit wheezy yesterday and today... DS2 takes great pleasure in putting the cover back on the inhaler after it's used.

Now to rehash leftover spiced roast chicken for tea...

vbus · 21/09/2009 21:00

Just found another letter asking us to make cakes with class logo for Thurs Who has time for all this stuff???

slng · 21/09/2009 21:06

Ah! Nice to see another school who thinks parents just sit around dying for a chance to show just how bone idle dedicated they are. Hope your school logo is not too complicated. I have run out of appropriate swear words for things like this... I need a thesaurus or a nervous break down. Will somebody get a swearword thesaurus for me for Christmas?

sfxmum · 21/09/2009 21:12

I disgraced myself today by failing to delivered completed questionnaire sent home last Friday, there was also a bunch of papers to read

slng I can swear in a few languages does that help? am sure you can too maybe we can pool our linguistic resources

btw I seem to be turning into a teenagers do I need help or just have a little more fun?

vbus shocking about boiler hope you are working on a rent deduction this month

OP posts:
slng · 21/09/2009 21:37

sfx - Chinese swearing mostly consists of insulting opposition's ancestors or questioning ancestry, though we did once successfully dislodge a teacher when we were in school by calling into doubt his wife's faithfulness. It was really bad. Teenagers are evil. Not sure if that works for institutions though. What do you call these people who sit around asking you to bake cakes at short notices? Words fail me. Put like that it doesn't sound too bad, does it? But one cake is fine, 3 cakes and 4 letters and 5 cancellations later you would get a bit mad though.

What teenage antics have you been up to?

mygreatauntgriselda · 22/09/2009 08:54

Sling at insulting ancestors

Vbus sorry to hear you have problems with your water works . Reliable plumbers are gold dust arent't they? Hope it gets sorted

SFX - we had a drinks for school mum's last week but I was too knackered to go. We normally have 1 night out per term for DDs class. Once they get into Juniors the whole social thing disintegrates a bit as the kids are more autonomous and you tend tyo mix with the small circle who are parents of your child's chosen few, whereas its more global for infants - large parties for them etc.

Luckily DD had small party this year for 8 friends at Art Yard, but she wants whole class again next year, as she realises it'll be the last big party, what a headache

We used to have coffee mornings but they evolved into bitching sessions so we stopped doing them - 'also 'twas very hard for working mum's to attend.

vbus · 22/09/2009 09:38

Morning

Auntie - for once I'm glad I'm renting as I've not had to chase plumber or foot the bill. New part to be installed on Weds and let's hope that the end of the matter.

Slng - I can see you've clearly been down this road! Happy to make cake but why don't they tell you in advance? Making logo could be tricky though, will have to be creative and think outside the box

Sfx - why do you feel like a teenager? Hope you haven't been hanging round the streets drinking cider & sniffing glue??!

slng · 22/09/2009 09:56

Yes vbus, blue sky thinking outside the box. Be proactive.

Blue skies here!

sfxmum · 22/09/2009 09:58

hello all

auntie thanks for info that sounds about right

slng&vbus about the teen thing I think it all started with a fresh bout of spots and it all went downhill from there
seriously this menopausal thing is a bit like like teen hormone wise

dd at school in the nick of time, went running after zero chat - result

OP posts:
sfxmum · 22/09/2009 09:59

school logo? must check if mine has one, as far as I can tell it is just a few lines of colour

OP posts:
vbus · 22/09/2009 10:23

School has a logo and each class has a logo too, good grief

Sfx - LOL at spots, whoever said you stop getting spots after your teen yrs lied!

Blue skies here too, will head out to playground soon

slng · 22/09/2009 11:33

vbus - they will be split into different tables and each table will have a logo too. Verily your cup overfloweth!

tillyfernackerpants · 22/09/2009 13:39

hi all, how's everyone?

ds1 loving school (I'm not allowed to call it nursery anymore, its big school)! But fortunately no cake baking with logos required so far! Mums all seem nice & friendly but no coffee mornings yet either.

Vbus, like the sound of Jolly tots, do you think you'll be going this Sunday?

PCW, I'll be able to coffee in the morning if you can head over towards me. There's a nice coffee shop at the top of the high street but it will need to be early as I'd have to leave about 10.45!
