about car trip dd was 2.6 we went to inlaws for Christmas very long drive but we did not want to use nappies, so we took the potty had lots of stops and lined the car seat with one of those Pampers mattress liners I still have a few, I think, if you want them

Hi all.

pcw - poor DS and you. My DS had it really badly, too, every inch of his skin was covered in spots. He had high temps for three days and couldn't eat as he had spots in his mouth. Hope your DS gets better quickly.

sfx - did you know Jared and his family are moving to Australia next week? August is a sad month, saying good byes to so many.

vbus - good luck with the potty training, sounds like he is making good progress. My DS still not 100% accidents free but somehow learnt to do wee standing up.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sun!

sfxmum · 06/08/2009 15:06

sushi - I did not know that, I met him and his parents at Kew recently and he is very friendly with dd, I know he had a place at the school too I expect someone in the waiting list will be happy

pcworld · 06/08/2009 19:56

Vbus, no pull-ups for us, either. We did a few long car trips while potty training dd and just lined her car seat with a plastic bag and a towel plus brought a potty. We also made a few layby stops for emergency wees Bet you can't wait to get away for a day!

How is everyone else tonight?

I think ds must be on the mend as he was sofa-jumping at 6.10pm and did a few head-dives followed by 4 roly polys . This was followed by dd dancing, getting dizzy and crashing face-first into a piece of furniture and splitting her lip.

I think it is best to simply draw a line under this week Off now to find a load of throws etc with which to cover up every piece of furniture that I can find. The place will be one big padded cell soon so we will all be able to throw ourselves around with abandon.

slng · 06/08/2009 20:28

pcworld - congratulations on all surviving the pox!

Just had tea. DH out. I'm watching Rick Stein in Malaysia learning what real cooking is. You can actually get fish head in Waitrose. I had that for lunch with DS1 - cost a grand total of 43p and had the most tender meat of the whole fish ... Unfortunately they don't sell them very often. Fish head curry... yum!

vbus · 06/08/2009 20:35

PCW - ouch, hope DD is ok now. Glad DS is better. My DS1 really suffered, fever and 100+ spots but after 5days he was over the worst. Didn't realise DD had already had it, at least you can put it behind you and try and enjoy the weekend

Went to Teddington Lock this afternoon, thankfully got home and got all washing in before the heavens opened

Think I will be brave and chance him pants for journey. He does have good bladder control, I was more worried if he fell asleep and then had an accident, liners/towel a good idea I suppose. I'm very proud of him and it's made for a relaxing week now that he's got the hang of it (hope I'm not jinxing myself!)

slng · 06/08/2009 20:41

vbus - give it a go and if he manages, which he probably will, then it will be a great confidence booster that you can wheel out to encourage him if there should be any regression, which I hope there won't be but ...

Apparently skate has gentle eyes

vbus · 06/08/2009 20:42

Fish Head curry

slng · 06/08/2009 20:49

Yum!

sfxmum · 06/08/2009 21:23

Fish heads very popular for fish stew/ soup a la fisherman
dh is very much anti fish that look like fish he always looks a bit green when we go to a Portuguese restaurant with my family who invariably order loads of fish/ seafood

have persuaded him that we should try some prawns maybe with Tagliatelli for dd's sake as new experience

pcW good grief well he does sound better, hope dd is ok too

vbus it is normal to have a the odd accident particularly when they are engrossed in something but he has clearly done well

dd asleep at reasonably decent hr hope to wacth silly telly and study a bit too
the plan is to go visit my aunt again tomorrow, at dd's request no doubt the obscene amount of chocolate available there will have been an incentive

Brief update on the vagaries of health chez Kewcumber...

Got message on phone at home yesterday from random person at charing cross asking me to call back to discuss "appointment" - of course having so many bleedin' appts with so many differnt depts I have no idea which one it is.

I ring from work this morning to be told - we'd like you to come in today for your iron infusion. Those of you with a memory better than mine will rememeber that I went in three weeks ago to sit around all day then told no nothing wrong with you go home. So I say "no no some mistake- I came in three weeks ago and was told I didn't need one"

"OH" flummoxed sister, I'll get doctor to ring you

very long and boring story but some phone calls later doctor explains to me that i shouldn;t have been sent home last time and now might need an iron tranfusion urgently so could I be in by 3pm (it was 1pm by then)

Rearranged work and managed to rush in for 3pm. Saw doctor at 5.30pm because they hadn;t paged her when I arrived. Bloods taken and sent off. Doctor comes back at 6ish - taking too long transfusion takes 4 hours and needs a doctor present (or available) and there are none anywhere in the whole hospital after 5.30pm (possibly a slight exaggeration), so could I pleaswe stay the night and have it in the morning.

Errrr, no I have a 3 yr old at home and have no clothes.

How about I go home and you ring me in the morning when you have th eblood results and I'll come back in (becasue who would like to take bets that the blood results come back fine).

My poor mother came though monsoon and traffic with DS who she'd picked up taking an hour to get to me.

And tomorrow I get to do it all again....

Can you hear that? Its the sound of my head hitting the wall...

slng · 07/08/2009 07:32

Kew - for you.

We have MMR booster and visit to grandma for kids and me to work today ... Is it the weekend yet?

pcworld · 07/08/2009 07:51

Kew, sadly, that is not surprising to hear at all. My brother regularly experiences such inefficiency and upheaval - and throw in some pretty poor bedside manners too - and alas I am starting to know too many other people going through the same. Am so sorry that you are having such a bad time with it all. I felt really cross when I read your post. I hope you have a better day today with it all, fingers crossed for some efficiency and of course good results, too.

Kewcumber · 07/08/2009 11:12

OK off back in now - hopefully no more screw ups and I can have a weekend!

sfxmum · 07/08/2009 16:32

KewC good grief so did you get the transfusion in the end? what an awful mess

hello all hope everyone is well

I think I will try and visit my aunt regularly for the next few weeks because she is quite elderly (79) and I want dd to have a relationship with her

although dd asked if she was going to die, death has started being a permanent subject around here she is also struggling with the concept of war lately
both things not easy to explain

both subject came up because she has been paying more attention to the news and 2 old soldiers died recently cue questions about who had been to war, grandparents and parents

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 07/08/2009 18:09

SFX my DD absorbs all the news as well.

Many a time she has given me a little speech on how naughty baby Peter's mummy is and how you shouldn't have children if you just want to hurt them She got very upset a while back after an explosion in Pakistan where some children got injured and asked what happend to them and why.

Both she and DS1 regularly ask me when I/DH/they will die and will it be soon, after a baby sibling OF A child at the school died (FROM A very serious medical condition)

I reassure them that most ppl don't die until they are very old. Trouble is, they think I am already very old and well, if you have met DH...

On a slightly more cheery subject I tool them to see Ice Age 3 in 3d today, tho DD had a very nasty diarreah incident which resulted in me having to throw away pants and wash trousers in cenema loos, thus missing 2o0 minutes of film

Kew - that is appalling!!!

mygreatauntgriselda · 07/08/2009 18:10

20 minutes not 200

vbus · 07/08/2009 19:04

Kew - how awful to be messed around so much. What happened today?

Sfx - it is hard trying to explain things like that. DS1 is really interested in military vehicles/aircraft but I don't like to tell him about war Btw it is no wonder that there aren't enough helicopters in Afghan, they keep flying over our back garden on a regular basis!

Auntie - hope film was good, I want to see it too. Pity about pants incident, hope DD is ok now

Went back to Greenacres today, DS predictably had an accident and got v. upset, it was a nightmare trying to get him out of the place. He was fine again once we got home, phew

Kewcumber · 08/08/2009 10:27

Yes finally got transfusion - arrived in hosptial around 1pm and started tranfusion at 5.30pm! Which is how long it took to get the iron stuff from pharmacy. I got home at 11.30pm! Can't tell if I feel any different though and whether it was all worth it...

mygreatauntgriselda · 08/08/2009 10:55

Kew - take care. I always imagined ppl would be in hossie for days after transfusions!!

We are going to Kew Gardens later - give the mini beasties a run around and picnic

sfxmum · 08/08/2009 11:15

good morning all

KewC what an awful mess I hope it will be worth it, weirdly they seem to be much more effective and speedy when it is an emergency, for anything else it seems to get stuck

dd had quite a disturbed night for some reason, dh working so I managed to squeeze in a short run, might take dd to Kew sometime this afternoon

hope everyone is well

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 08/08/2009 11:43

Kew, hope you feel better, what a lot of messing around

vbus, hope ds1 has recovered from his accident. Ds1 got upset about accidents as well, used to have to carry so many spare pants etc with me! Re the long trips, just to buck the trend, we did use pullups in the car until we were sure ds1 could either hold it or ask us to stop in time (he used to tell us he needed a wee just as he was doing it!). Now we make sure he uses the loo before we leave & as soon as we get there

auntie, sounds like a nice day, enjoy!

Am sad to hear about John Hughes dying, love his films, just watched Breakfast Club the other day, reliving my Judd Nelson crush

sfxmum · 08/08/2009 11:52

oh yes those great teen 80's movies
was looking at pics of Molly Ringwald who just gave birth to twins

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 08/08/2009 18:01

Wow how old is Molly Ringwold then?

Had fabby day in Kew, had some of those Purbeck ice creams from White Peaks - yum and super yum, they were delicious!!!

Must go to Kew Gardens more often....

mygreatauntgriselda · 08/08/2009 18:01

Kew how are you feeling now? xxx
