Knowing that is some consolation. 3yr old much harder to deal with than 2yr old IMO

About elephant, you'll have to ask Tilly, not sure why she serves up animals for lunch

vbus · 30/07/2009 15:10

Sfx - Why do people get so excited about Tricky? I don't get it. He was at fest I went to about 8yrs ago and people were just swarming the tent to see him, bizarre

sfxmum · 30/07/2009 15:53

vbus I remember dancing like a loon to his stuff way back I like all that trance dance indie mix stuff but he can be a total idiot and live performances are hit and miss really
I stayed in the tent having watched The Vaselines who were great despite much swearing and foul language

was looking for live music to go to later in the year and came across 'a flock of seagulls' PMSL wonder if they still have the same haircuts

Thanks all for reassurance. I suppose back in 60's smacking was the norm and it did no harm to their DCs (so they believe) so they think they are right. I know DS is very active and he can be handful at times but I still think he is a typical 3 year old. Well, we are not spending many days at ILs this Xmas for sure.

vbus · 30/07/2009 16:35

Sushi - LOL you tell them!

Sfx - at Flock of Seagulls. As Auntie would say, 'who?'

sfxmum · 30/07/2009 17:04

vbus LOL

was listening to Today and this was read, it moved me

OP posts:
sfxmum · 30/07/2009 17:11

sushi I think it is quite hard when they become so defiant and are often unable to understand how they feel never mind express it in ways other than screaming and shouting but I it is our role to help them through it

also keep treats and 'me' time on plentiful supply

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 30/07/2009 17:19

I've finally got the How to talk book from the library & it has made a difference with ds1, just being able to ask him to do something like pick up his toys etc!

Sushi, glad to see you back! It is awkward sometimes even with parents, never mind ILs. I think as long as you're clear & stick to your guns they'll get the message!

Vbus, thanks for having us over, ds1 really enjoyed it, keeps asking when we're going back! As for animals it started when he was having tantrums over eating so I told him it was giraffe jam or elephant bogies etc & it's stuck since

I am tempted to do a festival next year but it would just be me & ds1 probably, not really dh's thing but I might be able to convince him between now & then!

Does anyone fancy a Kew meetup during the holidays

pcworld · 30/07/2009 20:47

Hello Sushi, welcome back! Tilly, the "how to talk" book looks interesting (had a peek on Amazon) - I'd never heard of that one before, I might copy you and get hold of one!

Yes, we'd be up for a Kew meet-up although can't make next week, not sure when you are thinking of? Got a right, royal soaking at Marble Hill this morning lol!

Flock of Seagulls - what a great band, didn't realise they were still going! Did a google for a current pic and got this - can't be them, surely not LOL!

Re: all the age stuff - what about the terrible sixteen months?! I do think that the next year will see me reaching desperately for the previously abandoned manuals

sfxmum · 30/07/2009 21:29

pcW here

was thinking of Kew tomorrow but might just go visit my aunt with dd by myself not for the first time but always find it stressful

tilly like the animal food keep going now to finish level one, nice stage for further encouragement

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 30/07/2009 22:50

Tilly - if we do a festival, you're more than welcome to tag along with me and pitch up next to us. One of the things DS loved so much was getting up in the morning and going visiting! SOmeone literally next door that didn;t require me to wlak him over would go down a storm!

mygreatauntgriselda · 31/07/2009 09:18

SFX why do men need to make wars?

Anyway, gotta fabby day today. DS2 is at CMs and we are off to cinema to see G Force in 3 D, I am SOOOO excited

This evening I have my drinking book club

vbus · 31/07/2009 10:08

PCW - LOL at pic, they must've been on their winter hols when that was taken

Going to try Greenacres cafe this morning. Will be DS1 1st outing sans nappies, have packed loads of spare clothes

tillyfernackerpants · 31/07/2009 10:14

vbus, good luck for cafe trip!

auntie, enjoy the film!

We're off to the park & then toy library, busy day!

sfxmum · 31/07/2009 10:22

good morning all

auntie women start wars too being all equal ops and all
have a nice time at the cinema, apparently the new Toy Story will be in 3D too

vbus best of luck they surprise you how long they can go without a wee, generally turning me into a neurotic mess doesn't take much admittedly

tilly sounds busy have fun

am off to north London with cranky child, just where she got this NO followed by vigorous foot stamping from I do not know - am tired just thinking about it

OP posts:
slng · 31/07/2009 10:56

sfx - ONE woman started a war in recent history. And it wasn't Catharine the Great. Perhaps she started wars too? I guess there was Elizabeth the first too... Did she start wars? Still, more men started war than women, by virtue of the fact that more men are in position of power. There is an advantage being disenfranchised.

NO followed by foot stamping. Our minibeast just goes NO NO NO.

pcworld · 31/07/2009 14:35

Vbus, I really want to go to Greenacres, let me know what it's like! We're just back from Bushy Park where we saw a puppet show. Off to clear out the paddling pool now following an alarming facebook post by Tilly last night - and then to ... Tesco for a last hurrah

SushiMummy · 31/07/2009 15:45

Just a quick one - KC can you please send me the link to the collage of Gherkin-kun? I was talking to friend about it and she wants to see it! Hope you don't mind... TIA

sfxmum · 31/07/2009 16:26

pcW puppet show sounds good, not doing supermarket shops have it delivered can't bear the nagging

slng true and true same with sexual harassment and all the quicker we understand our similarities the better, also meaning that men can be very good nurturing parents and housekeepers

must think of ways to keep dd busy, preferably out of the house, over the weekend as dh needs time to study

...and we are back I had forgotten just how much chocolate there is in that house and a good portion of it ended up in dd'd tummy
anyway apart from train stuck in between stations twice it was ok and we managed to have a nice time must do this more often so I stress less

mygreatauntgriselda · 31/07/2009 17:14

Oh yes an Boudicia wasn't too kind wither was she?

Hi Sushi (waves) nice to see you I was wondering the other day where you'd got too

G Force was fantastic - super duper special 3d effects and we had a fabby lunch at Frankie and Bennys afterwards, with lots of jazz music, balloons, nice food and a tray of free ice cream sundaes (a group of 3 mums and 5 kids ordered it then had to dash to catch a film, so the waitress gave it to us for free lol) plus the best waitress I ever met

tillyfernackerpants · 31/07/2009 17:38

auntie, sounds like a great time, especiallly free sundaes

To be fair, Boudica was just defending the country against the Romans. More of a rebel than an instigator!

Pc, how's the paddling pool?

Sfx, glad the trip out wasn't too bad.

We've been to the park & then straight to the toy library for the afternoon. Ds1 fell asleep as I got the tea ready, bless him!

sfxmum · 31/07/2009 18:16

anyone following the death penalty thread and the husband off to find himself in India with a bike just after birth of 2nd child, thread?

I really should just catch up with study or something

OP posts:
slng · 31/07/2009 18:45

Didn't read any of the threads. No patience with people who have to go off somewhere to find themselves. Especially those who go off to places where people struggle with day to day existence and then here comes someone who says oh look how these poor people are so much happier than we who have everything. There is a lesson here for us all. Bl*dy look in the f*king mirror, is what I say. Grumpy, me? Never.

vbus · 31/07/2009 19:13

Haven't read thread but nowt queerer than folk as my friend's mum used to say.

Sounds like everyone had fun today with puupet show, freebie sundaes, trips out

I think I've found my 2nd home, I loved the cafe. Definitely recommend it, can't believe I haven't been before. Could actually eat my lovely cake and chat whilst being kid free (DS1 in the creche bit and I left DS2 in the baby area), bonus

slng · 31/07/2009 19:45

Have just been posting on random, hopefully uncontroversial, threads. Now must consider dinner ...

DS1 in bed with a temperature...
