Slng - LOL at your DS2, how cute

Sfx - that is an early start, hope you had some coffee to perk you up

Nursery is attached to primary school. I went for open day last Sept and really liked it, it seems to be a very happy place and I think DS1 will enjoy it. The staff were very nice. Now have a pile of forms to review, ccomplete and return.

Just when I thought DS1 girly phase was over, he just told me that he tried to put on a hairclip at preschool and it feel off so a 'friend' helped him put it in, lol

slng · 17/06/2009 13:59

vbus - at DS2's nursery there are always some children in the pink fluffy fairy dresses, and they are not always girls ...

sfxmum · 17/06/2009 14:32

slng so far no random falling asleep just random tearfulness over nothing

vbus - bless him with the sparklyness it is very attractive

when I am sleepy and tired I crave junk food, sugary stuff, must go have healthy snack instead

I expect I am the only one interested in who the new speaker of the house will be am hoping it will be Anne Widdecombe

OP posts:
slng · 17/06/2009 14:52

Anne Widdecombe has the power of switching off our radio whenever she comes on.

What are healthy snacks?? I had a cornish pasty ... Is that healthy?

Kewcumber · 17/06/2009 15:30

oh sod it - still have tonsilitus and now mouth ulcers too. Fell asleep in work yesterday and got sent home and GP said I should be at home.

New antibiotic today and steriod paste for the mouth ulcers - hopefully I can start eating again soon!

Hope everyone else is OK.

sfxmum · 17/06/2009 15:33

KewC yes you certainly should be home, will you be in Friday? do you need cakes to encourage you to stay at home?

slng had yoghurt and falafel that is healthy for me
and btw AW despite the irritating voice and occasional objectionable points of view is imo honourable

slng · 17/06/2009 18:14

An honourable politician, eh? She does seem to be one, but still not voting for that party.

Poor Kew! Mouth ulcers are a nightmare. Caught hand-foot-and-mouth once from so-called friend who brought her infected offspring to play. DS1 got blisters in mouth and hands, DS2 only on hands, and I got the mouth ulcers. Not nice.

tillyfernackerpants · 17/06/2009 20:43

Hi all,

vbus, we had our nursery induction today. Does seem lovely etc but I am a bit at the fact they give them homework!! Does any other nursery school do homework? Seems to be reading books, practising writing their name etc.

Sfx, still up for tomorrow night?

Only 2 days to our holiday

sfxmum · 17/06/2009 20:52

slng don't think I can either but she is fine for that role imo

tilly yes still on will go tomorrow morning as well I think

dd finally feel asleep at shortly after 8pm
am tired and sleepy too

OP posts:
pcworld · 17/06/2009 21:10

Tilly, dd's nursery didn't give her homework as such although each week they choose a different book to bring home and read.

SFX, I wonder why your dd woke up so early - would it be the light mornings, do you think? Bet you are shattered!

Feeling pretty tired here and looking forward to two inset days in a couple of weeks. Tilly, am hearing about your holiday!

tillyfernackerpants · 17/06/2009 21:36

Pc, they also do the book a week for reading but there's also stuff on top of that!

slng · 17/06/2009 21:38

tilly - holiday ! Where are you going? We don't have homework from the day nursery. No books no nothing. But they do teach them to "write", which is OK for both my ds because they seem to be quite happy to hold a pen and "write" since they were quite small. DS2 even wants to "make" numbers and Chinese characters, though he can't really. I periodically collect samples of DS2's "writing" to take home to put in a big box under his bed ...

slng · 17/06/2009 21:39

I do resent homework - on the one hand they really don't need it (WTF do they do all day in school anyway??), on the other hand you can't undermine the school and set them up for bad attitude towards homework later. I think these "teaching professionals" are mad.

sfxmum · 17/06/2009 21:46

no homework here I know dd writes her name at nursery but she does that at home too
I know they do letters and numbers but mostly it is play based, thankfully
current enthusiasm has been the tadpoles turning into frogs and planting seeds and today she made me a past necklaceI am ok with that, we read books everyday anyway

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 17/06/2009 22:01

Slng, I agree re homework. Think they are far too young for it! Oh well, maybe it won't be as bad as it sounds!

We're off to Centreparks in Nottingham Forest. Going with my parents, my brother & his family. On the one hand, its going to be great, on the other very close quarters...

vbus · 18/06/2009 08:07

Morning all

Tilly - hols sounds nice No homework over here, they do letters etc but all in the name of play. DS1 is well into that and is starting to write a few letters/numbers by himself. Tbh it sounds like his current setting but on a slightly bigger scale, lots of indoor and outdoor play.

KC - what a nightmare, hope new drugs kick in soon

Sfx - what's a past necklace? Maybe DS would like one

Not sure what to do today, maybe head to park at some point

pcworld · 18/06/2009 08:27

Oooh Tilly - Centreparcs - that should be fun! I'm sure that your ds1 will love it, there must be loads to do for him. We have never been to one so I will be interested to hear all about it when you are back.

We have dd's first sports day this morning, so have to be out of the house soon - a little practice for getting out of the house for 9am come September! Let's hope there is not a parents' race! The good news is that this means no nursery this afternoon and as it is a lovely day, we shall go for some Marble Hill action, I think.

KC - how are you feeling today, any better? I think it does take a week or two to get over tonsilitis. Hope there is some improvement.

vbus · 18/06/2009 09:23

PCW - ta for the inspiration, just decided we shall go to 1 oclock club this afternoon, yay Will text you later. Anyone else want to come along?

Sports day eh? How exciting, what is DD entered for? Brings back memories of egg and spoon race and sack race

tillyfernackerpants · 18/06/2009 09:58

Sports day, I vividly remember winning the skipping rope race

We may come to MH this afternoon, after swimming. Will text you both if we do!

vbus · 18/06/2009 10:54

Great, will be there after 2pm when DS2 wakes up. Let me know if you're coming and I'll bring back costume

tillyfernackerpants · 18/06/2009 11:00

vbus, don't worry about bringing costume as I'll see how ds1 is after swimming before deciding

sfxmum · 18/06/2009 11:32

hello all

am tempted to go to MH will see how things pan out

pcW not sure why she stayed awake, her cough woke her up, but thankfully slept really well last night
and sports day OMG parents need to participate don't they? am not ready for that life

could not resist going running this morning bought new fancy discount shoes yesterday and just had to get them dirty

OP posts:
slng · 18/06/2009 16:10

Just shouted at DS1 in front of friends Cannot bear ANYONE, including DC, trying to get their hands into my jeans pocket. It was an instinctive reaction. Doesn't look good, though, does it?

sfxmum · 18/06/2009 16:54

oh slng am sure he will be ok
parents are silly humans after all

'dd said to me today - oh no the hoover is out it makes me frustrated when you do that'
where has she heard that before? I had to laugh

OP posts:
slng · 18/06/2009 18:10

I'm not even worried about DS1 - though I did apologise for shouting at him - I'm worried about an AIBU thread about what sort of rubbish mother growls at their children for just displaying a bit of irritating behaviour.

I think I'm also ashamed of being so fierce because friend is so patient and told off her child at least 5 times for doing something irritating all in a nice voice.
