ok finally Christmas is over

OP posts:
SJ99 · 29/04/2009 14:37

Sfx - if I ask carers on pick up they always say DS has been fine but I want to know what is really going on I have to ask the head honcho, she is so in tune with the kids and she is very frank and supportive, I really value her opinion and advice. But I find I have to ask her rather than she contacts me for any discussion. Mostly I can see on DS face that he's enjoyed himself, I just hope he likes nursery in Sept as much.

BTW not shop in Richmond, choc stocked in Waitrose & selfridges

Tilly - sympathy on sleep front, could it be teething that's keeping DS2 awake?
Good luck with training, you can do it!

I often find Ds2 as been breakdancing in his cot these days as he seems to be in such random positions when I got to get him after nap. Yesterday he manged to get his head stuck in cot bars as was wedged widthways in cot I wish I had a webcam to see what he's doing

Off to library now, books are due back today

sfxmum · 29/04/2009 14:52

thank SJ I just mean dd seems different when she is there they say she is very quiet and is always imagining things and pretending, seldom answers questions directly etc
oh well, occasionally I dwell and they all ask if she plays with other children outside nursery obviously I am too antisocial for her own good

books to library must remember to do that on Friday

OP posts:
slng · 29/04/2009 21:53

sfx - I think children often behave differently in different social situation anyway. Does nursery think it's a problem? Certainly if I'm around DS2 becomes completely clingy and shy and would not talk to anyone else. If I'm not there apparently he does not stop talking and comes up with pretty surprising stuff that I never hear ... IME people (meaning nursery staff) seems to think gregarious children are the norm, but I wonder ...

mygreatauntgriselda · 30/04/2009 08:48

Tilly I reckon it will take your DH one weekend max to buyt a new TV

SFX kids often behave completely differently when they are CM/nursery/school. I wouldn't worry about being "anti-social" - after all, surely that's partly why she is going to nursery, to build social skills. My DS1 is noisy at home but qyuiet as a mouse at scxhool, strange but true. I've often thought teachers were referring to a diffrent child, but he just behaves differently at school. If you're worried you could make an appointment and have a chat about your concerns?

sfxmum · 30/04/2009 08:53

good morning all

thanks slng&auntie actually I think she is fine because is happy to go and she is always perfectly happy when I pick her up. I think it is understandable that she acts differently and some of the staff think it is fine and she seems happy and content there even if she does not engage much. she reminds me of my niece same steady as you go observing everything and she seems to have turned out just fine

tilly hope sleep is better, I would guess telly is already picked

off to drop child at nursery, just as soon as she reads story to assembled dolls bears and rabbits...

just 2 sleeps la la la

OP posts:
SJ99 · 30/04/2009 09:17

Slng - my DS1 is the opposite, chats non-stop all day at home but becomes quite shy in a different setting. Nursery say he gets stuck into all the activities but isn't really interested in the social scene, such a geek They say he's a real sponge and takes in absolutely everything though

Tilly - meant to say DS2 has recently been waking at night for an extra feed, I think he's just huingrier and burning more calories now he's more active, hence why I started solids a little earlier than 6mths

Anyone got plans for BH wkend? My parents are visiting later today. Hoping to also go to Garson farm weather pending. this also looked good for transport lovers

tillyfernackerpants · 30/04/2009 10:04

Tv is apparently going to be bought tonight

Sj, I think the sleeping thing is caused by his dummy tbh but I am wondering about starting solids, just a bit of baby rice. Iirc I started ds1 around 5.5mo & ds2 isn't far off that now.

Sfx, unless its something he wants to play, ds1 usually plays on the edges of a group rather than joining in. Apparently I used to be the same, quite happy to go off & do my own thing! I think its quite normal especially at this age, when school starts I think is when they start to play more with others.

AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 30/04/2009 10:53

God I am soooooo tired. Have had this cough/cold for nearly 2 weeks now, and DS has a snuffly nose, so also been up with him for the past few nights, as he snorts and grunts and gets upset. Finally discovered that saline drops seem to do the trick quite nicely, but have oh so much sleep to catch up on.

Looking forward to Chestnut Sunday on 10th in Bushy Park - love an old fashioned parade and fete! Hope Victorian bicycle club will be there again.

Need to find a new, mega moisturiser for face. My skin is behaving as though I've been trekking the Sahara or something.

Been to visit a cheap nursery, an expensive nursery and tomorrow I will visit one in-between, price-wise. Predictably, the expensive one is really nice, though not so convenient for drop off/pick up. But they really do seem to treat the children with love and care, and I just didn't get the same feeling with the cheaper, more conveniently situated one, which seems more suited to older toddlers than babies. Hmmm.

sfxmum · 30/04/2009 11:32

muesli take your time choosing nursery it is such a worry though, but there are excellent nurseries out there I am sure you will know when you find it and btw the Ofstead report is seldom the full story
about skin mine never having been dry now I find dry patches it is annoying so I am still experimenting

tilly got my race pack today how did it go last night?

SJ will be away for this bank holiday
(la la la la) can you tell I am desperate to go?

I am obviously middle age as I was quite pleased to find some cheap hush puppies mary janes at TKmaxx

OP posts:
sfxmum · 30/04/2009 11:33

and muesli sympathies with the lack of sleep, never easy hope it settles soon and you feel better

OP posts:
SJ99 · 30/04/2009 14:36

Sfx - oh yes, exciting holiday to look forward to, bet you can't wait to go

Museli - good luck with nursery hunt, you'll know when you've found the 'right' one. hope you're feeling better

Tilly - Dind't take DH long then?

pcworld · 30/04/2009 14:51

Museli - I much prefer the old spelling - as SJ says, you will "know" when you find the right place, regardless of cost, location. dd went to nursery at 13th months old as I returned to work then. We ended up at a nursery 3 miles away - BUT it was worth the slight inconvenience as we were very happy with it, I wouldn't have been able to return to work otherwise.

SFX, how are the french lessons coming along?

Tilly, will you be getting a very flash, poncey telly? V exciting I started ds at 5.5 months (baby rice) - and he didn't look back!

sfxmum · 30/04/2009 15:16

pcW lessons going well she was teaching the nursery teacher to say Combien

about the party the 1 0'clock is still an option especially with the optimistic news about the summer weather, they are offering slots of 12-2 and 3.30-5.30

might pop there tomorrow

OP posts:
sfxmum · 30/04/2009 15:18

meant to say on weaning dd had her first taste of rice at about 4months mostly because I though I would be back to work soon afterwards, as it turned out she was mostly on breast milk for the first year

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 30/04/2009 15:36

Well weaning seems to be a non-starter, or maybe ds2's just not that keen on ds1's crisps , came into the room to 'look mummy, I'm feeding ds2', ds2 spat it out with a look of utter disgust, 'mummy, ds2's too little for crisps'

Muesli huge sympathies on lack of sleep, hope your cold gets better soon!

pc, don't know anything about what telly we're getting, as long as it doesn't dominate the whole room I'm really not that interested!

The fair's on at Kew Green this weekend, will probably head along at some point, fingers crossed for nice weather!

slng · 30/04/2009 15:51

Where is my piano? Already phoned up to add to home insurance. Was asked if I intended to take piano travelling.

mygreatauntgriselda · 30/04/2009 18:00

Slng!!

mygreatauntgriselda · 30/04/2009 18:01
Grin
SJ99 · 30/04/2009 19:16

Slng - have you checked under the sofa? This is usually where I find things

slng · 30/04/2009 19:19

Apparently "incidences" on the M25. But "will be there in half an hour" 45 minutes ago.

I don't have human children. I have bread monsters. DS1 said "mummy don't make this type of bread any more I don't like it" while munching through 3 thick slices ...

sfxmum · 30/04/2009 19:24

incidences of what? permanently missing exits?

I like your boys ways of not liking things

here I am being made to play Do Re Mi, Mamma mia and assorted related tracks, best surrender I think < lifts skirts and dashes about with winsome smile on face>

OP posts:
slng · 30/04/2009 19:40

I loved sound of music and my fair lady when I was little ...

It's here it's here!!!

AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 01/05/2009 08:21

Congrats on piano, slng! By the way, am v curious (or nosey!) as to Chinese connection. My DP speaks fluent(ish) Mandarin, and I used to know a bit from travelling to the mainland a lot for work, but have now forgotten most of it . Music (we both have music-related jobs) and China (we have both lived/worked there) are 2 big things DP and I have in common, I suppose.

Another night with 3 hrs sleep - groan. DS still snuffly, though in good spirits nevertheless. Feel on the mend now. Maybe I had that Wine Flu everyone's been talking about . SJ, I hope you and yours are still okay after our coffee meet.

sfxmum · 01/05/2009 09:32

good morning all

packing nearly done

my course starts today so will email tutor and inform him I am off on holidays
looking at forecast looks like weather will be a bit rubbish there, anyway it is for the break

slng my mother was very keen on the Sound of Music apparently the first film I ever saw as a tiny baby, I recall learning the dubbed songs at school

what a lovely sunny day

OP posts:
AnotherMuesliPleaseBarman · 01/05/2009 10:57

Have a fab time, sfx! Hope the sun stays out for you. Will there be an opportunity to run to the top of a hill and sing? I do hope so.

Nursery I saw this morning may be The One! Lovely garden, lots of fun activities, friendly caring staff etc. As long as they weren't put off by my thousand-yard stare . DS already transfixed by their bubble machine.
