sfx - pre-children (and credit crunch) our holiday essential list was passport and credit card ... How we have moved on! We still manage a one-week holiday with two kids in a little hatch-back though.

Kew - Are you sure you are not in one of those 80s Japanese soap opera which featured heroines with multiple diseases/disorders and all the high-tech hospitals in Japan? Next you'll be having emergency surgery aboard a plane ... On second thoughts, please don't do that ...

sfxmum · 28/04/2009 18:38

slng I have happy memories of just taking off with no reservations as to where to stay, don't think will do that ever again

mellow2 · 28/04/2009 19:50

I have fond memories of picking out nice hotels and lovely local meals at dinner on our holidays. Nice local food was always the highlight of my holidays.

I'm still trying to psych myself up for a self catering holiday.

Auntie - Glad you had a lovely holiday in Barcelona.

Slng - Thanks for making the enquiry for me.

Sfx - You should hire a hall and some entertainment. They would cost less. We thought about it for dd's birthday but didn't have enough time.

mellow2 · 28/04/2009 19:59

Kew - I had a polyp. I got it removed and that was the end of it. I don't think they checked to see if it was malignant though.

I start work tomorrow. I'm really going to miss dd and her non-stop chatter and energy. It was certainly much easier to leave her when she was younger.

slng · 28/04/2009 20:06

Mellow - we've done 3 self-catering holidays, 1 B&B and 1 posh hotel. Self-catering much more relaxing. Not that we cooked much, but you could if you want to, which is the thing. The key is to make sure that your self-catering place is near bakeries, cafes, restaurants, pubs and beach!

slng · 28/04/2009 20:12

sfx - we went to a birthday party at Crane community centre and my friend had someone in (artytot?) with beads and t-shirt-printing and stuff and it was great fun and no entertaining required. No idea how much it cost though ...

sfxmum · 28/04/2009 20:16

mellow hope all goes well tomorrow, I expect it will take a little while to adjust but your dd is quite confident and well adjusted

was thinking of that party option but running out of time a month is not long to plan, will see what I can sort out this week

I like self catering with nearby facilities preferably a nice farmer's market

dh is settling dd but am sure she will just start shouting for me once he leaves, it is the new thing am getting my headphones

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/04/2009 20:18

slng that sounds good not sure how we could sort it out logistically as is out of way for non car owners like us

OP posts:
mellow2 · 28/04/2009 20:34

Thanks sfx.

As for dd's birthday, there's other halls you can hire in Richmond which are closer to you. I found them on the Internet. Sorry can't tell you where though.

sfxmum · 28/04/2009 22:03

OH NO! flu

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 28/04/2009 22:09

sushi will do my best to aoid haven;t open heart surgery on aplane.

Aunt griselda - ammanaging OK'ish though tbh that onvolves not doing much exceptworking and looking afetr DS as much of the rest of the time is spent asleep! Worse things are feeling of leaden tiredness most of the time and breathlessness even walking up the stairs. SO could be worse.

Kewcumber · 29/04/2009 10:47

will do my best to avoid having open heart surgery

SJ99 · 29/04/2009 11:00

morning all

Kew - gosh, definitely sounds like an episode of Holby City (not that I watch it), I that they get to the bottom of the medical issue so you can start feeling a little less tired

Sfx - when I was looking for venues for DS1 b'day there were quite a few good party suggestions on shhh netmums website
at flu

Re: hols, yes sadly gone are the days of just turing up at airport and then working out where to stay & what to do I also find that the smallest travellers ending up having the most luggage Once I've packed the DC's stuff I only have room to squeeze in a couple tops and pair of jeans for myself!

SJ99 · 29/04/2009 11:01

I hope that they

Must be catching

sfxmum · 29/04/2009 11:05

good morning all

Kew open heart surgery in plane not advisable aren't they germ factories?

SJ thanks yes had a look but returning phone calls and emails seems to be low on list of priorities for some of those people

as for flu am impressed he got an Obama quote

went running a bit again this morning as wasn't in the mood for shopping am probably going to consulate tomorrow morning if only I can stomach it

lovely sunny day

mygreatauntgriselda · 29/04/2009 13:34

Just whizzing past

Agree about self catering much more ralxing and affordable than trying to control your toddler in a hotel restaurant

Mind you I went to Barcelona without the Fat Toddler and i was easy peasy wit just DS1 and DD - I can just about see a light at the end of the toddler tunnel

Kew haven't seen you for ages - how is the new jobby going. Sorry to hear you are o tired due to health probs/wok/mothering = hopefully e can catch up at meet up

Mellow I owe you an apology as I never RSVP'd you - I didn't forget but just didn't know what state the DCs would be in as we were returning from hols. Good luck at work today

Love that link SFX - sooo funny

SJ99 · 29/04/2009 13:41

DH came home with a lovely surprise for me last night, he managed to get his hands on a box of Willie's choc complete with dodgy packaging as per programme Just had some, it's absolutely delicious

tillyfernackerpants · 29/04/2009 14:01

sj, nice surprise for you!

I'm another fan of self-catering, much easier to manage especially when you're staying somewhere & no restaurant is open between 3 & 7pm!

Kew, hope they get to the bottom of it

Sfx, I have my training plan on the fridge, it starts tonight & in theory I should be able to run a 5k in 6 weeks

Nothing much happening here, ds2's sleep seems to be getting worse, apparently I should be weaning him as he's such a big baby milk won't be keeping him full . Our tv broke this morning , any bets on how long it takes dh to buy a new one? .

sfxmum · 29/04/2009 14:16

SJ yum yum did not watch the show but read the piece in the paper, isn't the shop in Richmond?

tilly yes of course you can, go put your trainers on and report back when done
it is is any consolation I am very slow

OP posts:
sfxmum · 29/04/2009 14:18

also can I ask if your nursery/ pre school gives much feedback on how your child is doing?
sometimes the staff seem to be talking about a different child is that normal?
