Someone help me write a polite resignation. I would like it to begin with "Dear Fuckwit,"

Okay, maybe not...

ComeOVeneer · 25/11/2008 16:34

Fab news Athene!!!!!!

AtheneNoctua · 25/11/2008 16:41

Thank you my dear.

We missed you on Saturday.

stepfordwife · 25/11/2008 17:06

that's fantastic, athene
congratulations
such a deep joy being able to resign from a hated job..
i think dear fuckwit is acceptable

sfx, hope the leg gets better soon.

bunyan, yep. you're right..lion bars do hit the spot, well any chocolate - except white choc - does actually
the boy did good ..he bought home some galaxy and lindt dark choc, to be o the safe side...
and back to work

mygreatauntgriselda · 25/11/2008 17:54

How about "Mt Dear Fuckwit"? Makes it a bit more personal

Congrats!!!!

Nick has opened his eyes and is tracking movement and blinking - knows family are there and squeezed Paddle's hand 3 times!!!! Cautious optimism rom Paddle

On a slightly less important matter my tooth is still agony. Am on Amoxillyn 500mg x 3 times a day. Does anyone thing ABs might be working but taking ages? ABs usually kick in fter 48 hrs don't they? Its about 56 hrs now and can't feel any improvement whatsoever

ComeOVeneer · 25/11/2008 18:24

Wonderful news re Nick. Here's hoping the improvements continue. Poor paddle must be totally drained from all of this!

sfxmum · 25/11/2008 19:33

very promising news about Nick cautiously optimist seems the way to be

athene congratulations on job offer nothing like leaving behind a bad work situation

bunyanvillas · 25/11/2008 19:49

Griselda, I think you need to get back to the dentist pronto. You poor thing.

Kew, sorry to hear platelets down slightly, what a pain. Was thinking of you when I switched my bread machine (which I rescued from a damp shed) on half an hour ago. Let's hope for some sort of edible result otherwise no breakfast tomorrow!

SJ - sounds as though you are doing brilliantly considering it is such early days. Let's hope the outlaws behave themselves, eh?

Athene - many congrats on the job, it is good to hear of someone actually being offered a job rather than losing it at the moment.

And finally .... ds has a little tooth coming through. At last!!! Which I guess explains the nightmare that was the weekend. Seriously hope that we don't go through this each time the subsequent teeth decide to make an appearance!

MrsRecycle · 25/11/2008 20:25

Gosh this thread moves on so much that I can't post from my iphone and have to use a normal computer!

Kew - sorry to hear about platelets dropping and the steriods not decreasing - do you think your ankle had anything to do with it?

bunyan - meant to say its awful when they move to their own room isn't it? I was adamant ds would stay with us for 2 years like dd1 did but dh said he would be better on his own when he was around the same age as your ds. Sadly, dh was right.

Brilliant news about Nick isn't it? Am so so pleased - even ds is - he came down the stairs shouting "Nick wake-up, Nick wake-up, no more nun-nights" - so sweet of him.

Congratulations on the job Athene, hope the offer comes through soon.

Can't believe your tooth is still giving you pain Auntie - but I always wait 3 days for the IBs to take effect - not that you can wait that long.

sj - Happy Birthday to ds and dh - you certainly like November don't you? I think you're doing remarkedly well to be out and about so soon, let alone posting on here.

On tooth fairy duty tonight - ironic eh bunyan's ds gets his first one and my dd2 loses hers!

mygreatauntgriselda · 25/11/2008 21:28

Oh its all teeth on here tonight isn't it?

If tooth isn't imrpoving by tomorrow lunchtime I will act - although I have an appointment for Thursday am anyway - had to leave work early today as tooth was so painful and codeine sent me off my head slightly

Still not convinced that amocycillin is the best AB for abscess

CoV RU there?? - any views on amocycillin?

MrsRecycle · 25/11/2008 21:45

She's off preparing reindeir food!

Can you take paracetemol as well? Coedine always spaces me out as well.

Dh just got in from work and suggested I take a trip to Westfield on Thursday night, does anyone want to join me? Apparently the restaurants are very upmarket (no Mcd)

mygreatauntgriselda · 25/11/2008 22:20

MRSr - would love to go but don't think I can this week

Am on Paramol and Nurofen Plus = Paracetamol, dihydrocodeine, ibuprofen and codeine - a "nice mixture" she says through a haze of opiates

rosmerta · 26/11/2008 08:23

Morning all,

MrsR, the restaurants are quite upmarket but reasonably priced. The closest to fast food is Wagamamas & Gourmet Burger Kitchen. I won't be joining you though. I went to Westfields the other week & had to leave after 1 hr!

Auntie, sorry you're still having tooth trouble. Codeine always has that effect on me as well.

Athene, congratulations on the job offer!

mellow2 · 26/11/2008 09:20

Morning everyone,

Dh, dd, and I have spent a week battling the mother of all colds. It's not a cold that has you bedridden so much as every time you set foot outside the house, you get worse again. Anyway, we're finally better now.

Great news about Nick. It's a good sign.

Athene - Wonderful news about the job offer. No small feat considering the current economy. Hope the written offer arrives soon.

SJ - Belated birthday wishes to dh and ds.

Kew - Sorry to hear that platelets down slightly. What does the consultant say?

Bunyan - It probably was the tooth causing all the bad behaviour. Things should get better soon.

MrsR - I can't say I recommend Westfield's food court. I thought it was overpriced and overcooked. Maybe the restaurants are better.

Griselda - Sorry about continuing problems with toothache. It does sound like you need to go back to the dentist's.

Sorry, if I missed anyone's else's news. I'll have a proper read of the posts later.

mellow2 · 26/11/2008 09:28

I can make the 6th tentatively. It's my birthday the following Tuesday but I don't know what dh has planned for the weekend. Probably nothing as he keeps telling me.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 26/11/2008 10:46

morning all

congrats on the tooth bunyan dd got hers really late and then it was 3 or 4 in one go

SJ glad to hear feeding has normalised

mellow good to hear you are all feeling better

mrsR I always get slightly overwhelmed/ suffocated by shopping centres don't have that girl gene I don't think
enjoy shopping

does anyone want a laugh at my expense? had to rush around this morning getting dd to nursery in time for my weekly lardy ladies club then go running, well apparently I went from home to nursery then to Mortlake with an inside out jumper, labels flapping in the wind
oh well short run afterwards as leg still hurts

mellow2 · 26/11/2008 10:54

Sfx - I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure anyone who noticed thought it was a fashion statement. I remember it being the thing to do when I was in university in the US (a long time ago, I know) and I think I've seen fashion sold with seams and labels sold on the outside in edgy fashion brands in recent years.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 26/11/2008 11:10

yep edgy fashion person apparently I don't look in mirrors anymore

can't believe it is a month till Christmas! am sticking to Portuguese custom and starting celebrations on the 8th

mellow2 · 26/11/2008 11:17

We're going to get the Christmas tree out this weekend so dd can use the advent calendar that mil bought her.

I've been meaning to ask, do I have to buy Christmas presents for dd's nursery school teachers or is it just cards?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 26/11/2008 11:36

mellow about presents for teachers I think we are going with small gift, I bought some Christmas decorated cellophane bags and will put a bath bomb inside tied up with a small tree decoration that should be more than enough

sfxmum · 26/11/2008 11:48

is anyone watching news24? stupid buffon manuel barroso is talking fluff again really loathe that man and OMG I hope I don't sound like that!

slng · 26/11/2008 13:19

who he sfx?

Ah, him. No you don't sound like him. I don't watch news. In fact only read the papers once a week a week late. So only found out now that Woolworths is going down the drain!! Oh no!!!

VERY moany DS1 at home today. Sore throat and generally unwell since Friday ... In contrast DS2 is in extremely high spirits. Last night he sang through his entire repertoire of nursery rhymes before consenting to drop off.

I've never given nursery staff any presents. Do you think one ought? How about school teacher and TA?

stepfordwife · 26/11/2008 14:46

hello all
how you all diddling?
frazzled of mortlake here

yes, great news about nick, here's hoping for more good news
mellow - thanks for dropping off samples, they smell divine
kew, how are the platelets today (..just to prove i care )

bunyan, hope you get a bit of respite now ds has cut that tooth. ouch! (auntie knows how he feels..)

sorry, know you're not sun readers (just take the holidays, eh?..you know who i'm talking to ) but, hate it or not, maybe take a few seconds to sign its petition about baby p www.thesun.co.uk

they delivered a million signatures to downing street today asking for (ir) responsible staff to lose their jobs. sometimes, just sometimes, maybe they have to listen to the people.

sfxmum · 26/11/2008 14:53

slng thanks for reassurance I have bought extra crafts stuff to keep dd busy as weather looks awful

steppie I have difficulties with this story and said petition, although I have not looked at details as yet. to my mind the social workers we have are the social workers this society enables, they are not a well regarded profession and most work with very inadequate management which is very much money target driven at the expense of all else.

likewise the public generally seems to have the idea that social workers just take children away and destroy families.

ultimately it all comes down to money, did you know that to take a child into care the case has to go to court and it costs money in fact recently it went from a couple of £100 to about £4000 guess how managers make the decisions?

sorry this things set me off feel free to ignore, still no excuse for incompetence but things do not happen in a vacuum

stepfordwife · 26/11/2008 15:02

you're absolutely right, sfx, things never happen in a vacuum and one should always be wary of taking things out of context

of course it's the system but, in this case, do feel perhaps individuals have to accept some responsibility, particularly as one of them was involved in the victoria climbie case with the same authority....but, like you, have reservations.

but think petition could be one way of a voice being heard and a civilised request for not revenge, but accountability - and, yes, that goes far beyond individuals' accountability.

i usually avoid these things lie the plague but, somehow felt right to do it, but do feel free to ignore
