Hi all, have done something to my laptop which is blocking MN access so have had to nick dh's to get on!

Still have my fingers firmly crossed for Nick.

Sj, glad everything seems to be settling down.

Auntie, hope your tooth's feeling better, poor you.

Don't know if I'll be able to make the 6th, will have to play it by ear and probably let you know on the day

MrsRecycle · 24/11/2008 12:45

right back in normal mode Auntie - will probably be able to make the 6th now as a social date has been cancelled (is that better ). And like the sound of Mamma Mia Kew.

That do on the 14th sounds wonderful but sadly am at the ILs then. How's your tooth? Must have been really painful.

Still praying and hoping that each day for Nick brings a small step in his recovery.

mygreatauntgriselda · 24/11/2008 13:03

Mrs R thanx for asking (and you Ros) - right now I am in agony as painkillers wore of while I was at doctors so am waiting for the four I just took to kick in

aaarrrrgggghhhhh

Thanks for your response re the 14th too Mrs R

If anyone is interested in the chaity event let me know - plan to book some tickets on Friday

bunyanvillas · 24/11/2008 13:41

HELLO. Finally!! For some reason I have not been able to get on Mnet for quite a while Haven't heard from Paddle since Sat night, is there any further good news?

SJ - how are you doing and how is your newest ds - and of course eldest ds Hope feeding problems are resolving themselves and you are recovering and not in too much pain.

How is everyone else? Dropped mum off at the station an hour ago so feel a bit sad. Also moved ds's cot into his own room this morning - but the time has come as we are all waking each other up at night.

Yes, I'd be up for a night out and of course the cheaper the better, as long as wine is involved

Ros - how are you?

AtheneNoctua · 24/11/2008 13:48

No £40 cream tea for me. Although, it is less than I spent on one bottle of chapagne at the MN Christmas party on Saturday.

Out of curiosity, what does this charity do for terminally ill children? There is a charity in the states called "Make a Wish Foundation" and they makes dreams of terminall ill children come true. For example if a boy's dream is meet his favourite football player, they arrange for the football player to go visit him in the hospital. I've always thought this was a truly fantastic charity. ANd just wondered if this one is similar.

(I could however be persuaded to fork over £5 or so for you take to the tea and give to them)

Kewcumber · 24/11/2008 14:34

REACT is more practically based than that - they supply equipment for the families of children with life limiting illnesses. Like fridges to put drugs in if their fridge has broken down.

AtheneNoctua · 24/11/2008 15:01

Oh, that's nice, too. (ok, probably better)

rosmerta · 24/11/2008 18:58

Any recommendations for people to come round & fix a washing machine? Think mine is on its last legs & wanted to see if its worth getting it fixed.

MrsRecycle · 24/11/2008 19:24

ros my washing machine broke down last Friday but dh was able to fix it by just draining down. Hopefully it'll last as I'm doing 3 loads a day at the moment.

rosmerta · 24/11/2008 19:36

Thanks MrsR but I think its the ball bearings! Making a very funny noise on the spin cycle

slng · 24/11/2008 19:49

Evening all!

Auntie - sorry can't make 14th...

Ros - sorry no help with washing machine. I thought sfx had washing machine trouble not so long ago and had someone round to fix it?

Kept DS1 from school today because he was just recovering from some unspecified illness over the weekend. We went to Kew Retail Park to get him a new winter coat (he's had the current one since he was 2!) We were the shabbiestly dressed ones at the M&S cafe!

I'm a bit fed up of being told that my life is difficult because I have two boys. What sort of friend cast aspersions regularly on the characters of your sons and your ability as a mother? Harrumph.

bunyanvillas · 24/11/2008 19:57

Sing - it is particularly annoying when people make what I deem to be wild generalisations. Also - am sure I am more shabbily dressed than you - if you want to make comparisons Also these days I either look like death warmed up or as though I've been on a sunbed for 4 hours due to lack of make-up application skills Ros, have no idea about washing machines but you need to get that sorted pretty damn quick! Mind you, I feel that I am doing more washing NOW with a 7.5 month old ds than I was at the start. Gosh, being on MN is just so much more appealing than batch-making a load of salmon fishcakes in the kitchen which of course is what I should be doing.

MrsRecycle · 24/11/2008 19:59

I think boys are way easier.

Sounds like you have a lose screw (nothing personal) ros. Have a look at the bottom for a panel that comes off/unscrews. There might be something in there. Normally money/socks/Lego is what I find.

MrsRecycle · 24/11/2008 20:00

hi Bunyan how rude of me not to welcome you back earlier on

bunyanvillas · 24/11/2008 20:00

Mrs R, how is all the house stuff going?

bunyanvillas · 24/11/2008 20:01

Well - quite. I was rather expecting a "welcome back" pageant complete with virtual red carpet plus throne for me to sit on.

MrsRecycle · 24/11/2008 20:02

sloooow. Which is just the way I want it

MrsRecycle · 24/11/2008 20:03

spooky cross posting there Bunyan

bunyanvillas · 24/11/2008 20:07

Oh, well that's ok - so long as there is little or minimal stress, then that is all good. Oh gosh, I so wish I was feeling more motivated tonight. Really have quite a lot to do but just feeling cold and in the mood to sit around in a dressing gown. Did anyone watch the Channel 4 news tonight? All that preposterous imagery really naffed me off.

bunyanvillas · 24/11/2008 20:09

Might give dh a shout on the baby monitor and ask him to bring me a cup of tea plus a piece of my mother's shortbread. Oh dear it is sad that I am sitting here on MNET having a conversation with myself!

AtheneNoctua · 24/11/2008 20:18

I'm here.

There are all kinds of girl/boy stereotypes that don't apply to either me or my children.

My boy is a complete angel (usually) and my girl is spawn of the devil (usually). My girl is dominant and stroopy. My boy is passive and loves to ready. My girls is coming round but certainly not a natural reader. But she can read a map and is pretty good at math.

You get the idea...

People are full of shize (I just wanted you all to know that I really can say shit in German -- althought I'm not sure if I can spell it.)

slng · 24/11/2008 20:35

It's funny isn't it AN? My friend has two girls. My boys like to read, and talk more in more languages than her DD1 (DD2 is 2 months old so would be really unfair to compare!) which boys are not supposed to do, I'm sure. I'm just so fed up with such lazy stereotyping. Especially the type that doesn't take into account blatant and obvious counter-examples.

And my boys can say "scheisser" (I think that's the correct spelling , if you replace the funny ss symbol with double-s). (Not sure that's an advantage!)

slng · 24/11/2008 20:36

Hello too Bunyan!

mygreatauntgriselda · 24/11/2008 20:39

My girly is made of candy floss and the boys are stinky wee beasties

rosmerta · 24/11/2008 20:47

Thanks for the tip MrsR, I'll have a look. Or rather get dh to do it!!

Bunyan, how's the fishcakes going?
