For when the other thread runs out today!

OP posts:
rosmerta · 18/07/2008 20:31

MrsR, did you see the Personal Services Required this week? All about au pairs!

slng · 18/07/2008 20:42

Hello!

Let's see if we can out-dull each other: I baked 2 loaves of bread, 11 bread sticks today. Anyone more boring than me?

How goes the potty-training Ros? DS2 seems to have decided that it's OK to poo in the toilet, so life has just got that little bit easier. We all had to stand round and admire the poo in the toilet earlier. Tell me what other walk of life you get to do exciting things like that.

rosmerta · 18/07/2008 20:49

I know what you mean, I have to admire the 'puddles' when he does go. It is a bit hit & miss, scuse the pun! Sometimes he'll sit on it quite happily, other times not bothered. I don't think it helped when I needed to go to the shop yesterday, put on a pair of underpants instead of a nappy & he had an accident in the shop. Oh well, we'll be at it a bit longer I think!

As for exciting day hmm, ds in nursery this morning so cleaned the house top to bottom (my parents are coming this weekend), then had speech therapy appt for ds this afternoon, that's pretty much my day!

rosmerta · 18/07/2008 20:49

I should make it clear that it was ds in the underpants rather than a nappy, I always wear underpants & am fully potty trained

slng · 18/07/2008 20:55

We went to a cafe yesterday for tea and DS2 was in underpants. Suffice to say the meal was interrupted by false alarms throughout, and eventually I gave up and put a nappy on DS2 (with his consent). He didn't actually do anything in the nappy, but it let us eat our yummy pancakes.

I used to carry the potty (a proper one, not a portable) around when DS1 was potty-training. But we got one of those portable toilet seat thing when we went on holiday, so I think I'll carry that one round for a while.

rosmerta · 18/07/2008 21:00

I thought about getting one of those portable potties but tbh, I'm not sure ds is ready for it yet. Think I'll keep going at home for a while longer before risking it in publich

slng · 18/07/2008 21:35

Ros - we spent quite a long time with DS1 just doing potty morning and evening and nappy on in the day, and with DS2 about a couple of weeks of no nappies only in the afternoons. Then it just progressed quite easily to no-nappies completely.

rosmerta · 18/07/2008 22:08

Thanks slng, think that's what I'm going to have to do.

My, what a riveting conversation we're having!

slng · 18/07/2008 22:13

Better than discussing whether the strawberry-scented soap is making me sneeze all day and why the ginger-scented one doesn't.

sleeplessinwestlondon · 18/07/2008 23:13

OK I am back - what have I missed - summary pleeeeeze?? (grovel, grovel)

Cornwall was wonderful - swimming each morning and chilling every arvo - great sunny weather and breathtakingly beautiful views and beaches

Lived almost entirely on pasties and Pino Grigio for a few days

Have I missed anything????

rosmerta · 19/07/2008 08:43

hi sleepless, gald you had a good holiday!

Don't think much has happened, there was a lot of talk about festivals until sfx, sj & paddle left! Slng and I have been talking a lot about potty training! Kew was very proud of gherkin swimming on his own, and MrsR can't wait to finish work.

There you go, think that's everything!

Dh is away this weekend watching the cricket and my mum and day have come down. Think we're going to brave the weather and head to Kew for the day.

rosmerta · 19/07/2008 08:53

glad

stepfordwife · 19/07/2008 15:17

hi all
sleepless welcome back
glad you had a lovely time. sounds gorgeous.

ros and sing..re the potty training..ime they just do it when they're ready. no harm giving up for a while and trying again in a few months if you want.

went to dh's uncle's funeral yesterday in margate. he was a lovely chap. blubbed terribly at funeral - but largely because seeing his wife and 2 daughters reminded me of me, my sis and ma at my own dad's funeral. you know when you feel guilty you're hijacking someone's grief? managed to get a grip as was in danger of wailing more than immediate family. oh dear..

BIG NEWS: i'm...wait for it...going to a grown-ups' party this evening AND one next weekend? What's going on?!
tbh, i've forgotten what one does at a party that doesn't involve pass the parcel and colin the caterpillar cake..

Hiya [waves]

Thnx Ros

Slng - it was called something like Croix du la Pont - just north of Paris and very beautiful - built in a forest, next to a village and river and totally lovely Very easy to drive to from Calais and they all speak Anglaise

Kew we have same prob as you re. mortgage (as do half the nation's home owners) - our's is 4.99% but it expires in Feb. Maybe try Paddle's broker?

Steppy - did you run in Mum's race? My advice to anyone who has had 3 kids is " put on a Tena Lady before you run" I made the mistake of doing the "Mums being humiliated by having to jump with beanbag clenched between legs" race. I was doing really well until pelvic floor dramatically called me to a halt

MrsR - LOL at your post

I can never quite see the point of mushy peas myself . I mean unless you have no teeth ot something...

slng · 19/07/2008 19:03

Hello!

We've spent a day at MIL and were fed lovely foods.

Gingerm - thanks for French holiday info. Will keep that in mind for next holiday. French is one language I simply cannot cope with. I don't get it - why write all these letters when you don't have any intention of pronouncing them? Odd.

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 12:37

We had a day at Kew yesterday, ds just did not stop and tired out 3 adults! Thought he would've slept like a log last night but nope, asleep at 7, awake at 11, back to sleep around 3! Yawwwn!

Oh well, at least dh is back today so he can look after him from teatime.

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 20:32

still quiet I see!

topdolly · 20/07/2008 21:03

Ros, what did you say to scare everyone away?

Dum, Diddy Dum, Diddy Dum, Diddy Dum...

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 21:07

Perhaps I should change my name to 'threadkiller'?

Btw topdolly, are you who I think you are? Confused

slng · 20/07/2008 21:13

Topdolly - I'm just going to assume you are who I think you are ... It's all too difficult.

DS1 fell off the climbing frame at the playground. Was taken to A&E and declared OK...

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 21:16

slng, glad ds1 is ok. Are you ok though, or are you gulping down the wine?!

slng · 20/07/2008 21:42

Brandy, Ros, brandy.

topdolly · 20/07/2008 21:53

Slng - glad he is OK

Yes I am she

Hint: had a fabby swim this morning...

rosmerta · 20/07/2008 21:55

So how many more name changes are you going to have?

Slng, well, as long as its got alcohol in!

slng · 20/07/2008 22:10

I can't believe he did that - he's been on that climbing frame about a million times. What can you do about things like this!? Very scary.

she-who-must-not-be-named: how much time do you spend coming up with names?
