Newsflash: Housing Association have pulled out (said the Bishop to the Actress)

Have now put a rocket up the Estate Agent and told them to pull their finger out and drum up some interest.

MrsR, thank you thank you thank you.

This time tomorrow I will be chugging down to the NF in a campervan!

Can't wait!

ps: I've never been to Ealing Broadway, really must get there sometime!

pps: dd's "illness" never got any worse but she has been a total demon all week. misbehaving, selective deafness, threw her lunch on the floor at CMs yesterday etc. Won't sleep before 8:30pm and waking at 6am then yelling and thundering around. Driving me insane!

fitfox · 05/06/2008 13:50

Paddle - why have they pulled out, cheeky feckers?

Paddlechick666 · 05/06/2008 13:55

apparently all funding has been pulled.

personally i think my EA has just totally dicked me around for the last 6 weeks.

they've got until Monday to get some people thru the door and some results or I'll do an Alan Sugar on 'em!

mellow2 · 05/06/2008 14:06

Sorry to hear that HA has pulled out.

Ros,
We would love to come round tomorrow afternoon. Would 3.30pm be okay?

rosmerta · 05/06/2008 14:13

mellow, that should be fine. Hopefully the weather will be nice so the dcs can play in the garden!

Paddle, sorry about the HA, EA probably has been farting around

MrsRecycle · 05/06/2008 14:29

pc - bloody EAs hate em.

no probs pc - thank you as well.

am doing a sun dance for you at the mo, hoping the rain will stay off for your weekend away.

Can I confess something here? I'm not a Primark fan [runs off and hides] - I know its cheap but I hate the mess everytime I go in there. My df said the trick is to go first thing in the morning but what's the point eh? I get no pleasure in Primark whatsoever. Gosh am I turning into a snob give me Monsoon any day

paddle sorry about HA and useless EA (are they ever useful)

poor dd nearly drove me mad this morning but I was in a foul mood so she was just really feeding off me.
a good run around Kew sorted it out and we got to see a very pissed off peacock chasing a man am I mean?

we go to Ealing Broadway sometimes to have lunch with dh, never been to Primark, is it worth it?

MrsRecycle · 05/06/2008 14:47

rofl at peacock chasing man sfx.

Hello all

Paddle - sorry HA have been so useless how annoying for you

I'm afraid I'm not Primark fan either they're cheap but I don't think they're v.ethical

COV - thanks for link, it is really good there - DS would love to go there daily if he could

Hospital visit went really well, DS is regaining weight and soya allergy has disappeared. All other test results were fine so they decided not to do any further tests. We had picnic to celebrate

Mellow/Ros - do you still want to meet tom, shall I come to yours Ros as well?

Off for a stroll round the green now whilst the sun is still shining

sfxmum · 05/06/2008 14:58

SJ great to hear that regarding ds

mrsR it was quite a spectacle plumage all fanned out full throttle after the poor foll with the camera

I think I will go swimming tomorrow, was a bit taken aback by a review of pools in the park saying that toddlers wee freely in the pool, can't say I had noticed it

Paddlechick666 · 05/06/2008 15:05

thanks MrsR but there will be no rain this weekend!

good news SJ.

that's interesting SFX, it was probably dd as i let her swim float about pretty independently altho i am never too far away.

i have packed our swimmers. note to self: swim nappies!

mellow2 · 05/06/2008 15:14

SJ,
Great news regarding ds. It would be lovely to see you tomorrow.

ComeOVeneer · 05/06/2008 18:56

OK shall we arrange a meetup at mine one Sunday for a trip to the minature railway, then back to mine for a kiddies tea?

fitfox · 05/06/2008 19:19

Listen girls, the trick is to mix Primark basics with Monsoon/Mini Boden etc etc

Why are they not ethical - I mean I guessed they probably use 4 year old Bolivian children working in sweatshops, but don't all the big clothe's manufacturers: Next, Gap etc?

I am most dissappointed with the reaction to Primark !!!!

!

rosmerta · 05/06/2008 19:29

foxie, there was supposed to be a programme on C4 called The Devil Wears Primark (its been pulled for some reason) but they basically went undercover into the sweatshops & then recruited die-hard Primark shoppers to live & work in the same conditions for about a week or so. I think the difference is that many of the larger shops are starting to take notice of the backlash against cheap clothes, still a way to go but its a start!

Sj, glad ds is getting better. I can come to you if you prefer (its probably our turn ) otherwise, both you & Mellow are welcome to mine.

sfxmum · 05/06/2008 19:42

little rant of my own, stupid Parcelnet dropped a sorry we missed you note

so tried to called them always engaged until 5pm when I got a recording saying call tomorrow we are closed now!

my lovely new running shoes, poor old ones have a little hole on top now

I need them

ok thanks ignore

fitfox · 05/06/2008 20:24

I'd be very surprised if most of the major manufacturers don't exploit people in poor countries in one way or another. The Primark programme was probably pulled for legal reasons.

rosmerta · 05/06/2008 20:25

Foxie, that seems to be the general view though the official line from C4 was that it wasn't finished

fitfox · 05/06/2008 20:27

... the difference being that Primark have a lower mark up price, so don't rip off people as much as Gap etc

I think if you asked the average Somalian mother in Ealing where she would rather shop - she would tell you she shops where she can afford to i.e Primark

ComeOVeneer · 05/06/2008 20:29

sfx sympathies re parcelforce. I am frequently having to deal with these notes yet am in at the time!

fitfox · 05/06/2008 20:30

Sorry am on a soap box now - lets face it - Primark aren't the only culprits, its just they don't have such high mark up prices

I would challenge any woman in the UK to show me her wardrobe and prove that all her clothes were produced ethically buy people with a minimum wage, the right to join a union etc - and all her meat/fish etc, and that no person/animal has suffered to make her consumerism affordable

rosmerta · 05/06/2008 20:39

foxie, I do agree with you, we shop where we can afford, me included. Unfortunately, it does make me guilty that I don't buy ethical clothing even though its because I can't simply afford it. Until they make it affordable, its not going to really change.

Gap are certainly known to be one of the worst offenders. If you look on their websites (Gap, Next etc) they all claim to have ethical/social responsibilities but really its all talk & not a lot of action.

sfxmum · 05/06/2008 21:03

things like workers rights start home, keep your mouth shut once, loose your voice.

anyway no such thing as fair

thanks for sympathy COV knew someone would feel my pain

fitfox · 05/06/2008 21:11

Am nearly out of steam now on this one, but not quite

The British Empire was built on exploitation lets face it, so we have all benefitted from exploitation indirectly. The lifestyle of everyone in the UK is built on centuries of exploitation.

I think the think what is niggling me is that the British media hate success. They hate Tesco 'cos shoppers love it. Shoppers love it 'cos its good value.

Shoppers love Primark 'cos its decent clothing at affordable prices.

"Ethical shopping" is the luxury of people with the money to choose.

rosmerta · 05/06/2008 21:15

sorry sfx, didn't mean to ignore you! Hope you get your new trainers soon & your old ones get the retirement they obviously deserve!
