Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

CoV, tell the GP you need super strength fast acting dose.

I was in full flood tonsilitis on my flight out to Utah recently and was very miffed I couldn't drink. I did have some champagne on take off and a small glass with lunch but I saved myself for the journey home.

i will be back later. need advice on how to handle dd's temper tantrums when it comes to shoes!

have resorted to buying rip off tesco crocs in the hope they will be more acceptable.

every pair of shoes at the moment has meltdown potential and it's not only boring/embarrassing but incredibly delaying and exhausting!

bunyanvillas · 20/05/2008 18:48

The Wiggles are tres bizarre, yes. Much prefer Big Cook Little Cook - I'll have some of what they're on!!

bunyanvillas · 20/05/2008 18:49

Apologies - literally just ducking in, no proper time to catch up. CoV, sorry you're ill, that's rotten - I had a sinus infection when I was preggers - awful - as PC says, get some super duper ABs asap and hopefully they'll kick in very quickly. In the meantime can you try steaming and sinutab?

stepfordwife · 20/05/2008 19:08

COV.. you poor thing..yes, deffo get some super-strength ABs..great you've got your trip to look forward to.

hi bunyan...how's it going with bambino?

paddle..re shoe meltdown...always helpful to offer a choice of two pairs of shoes (or wahtever) then dd will feel like she's got some power over something..
ikwym about aggro when trying to get out of the door, but in a toddler's mind, they're always having choices made for them..things done to them, etc.
for obvious reasons (we know best and we're in a HURRY, right!) but, if you get inside their head, must be pretty frustrating!

apologies if you already do this...

oh! oh! forgot to share...dd had her hair in bunches for the first time yesterday. finally decided her wisps warranted it...
she's been longing for 'two things on head like millie" (her cousin) for ages..
finally (be still my beating heart) acheived..looked damn cute..and now...

she doesn't want 'those two things on mine head ANYMORE.."
messing with my mind, i tell you..

fitfox · 20/05/2008 20:33

Re the crocs - I always have to give DD a "choice" of what to wear, or else she just refuses what I choose and flings it across the room, in true princess style, exclaiming "I can't wear that mummy!!"

I have to say, DD loves her crocs.

Has anyone seen the teeny baby crocs in Next - Sooo cute

CoV - I reckon you have got a bit run down with organising the fair, house, trip etc. Take it easy, get some ABs down you and make sure you recoup when you are in Chicago

Steppy _ I would like to see your DD with bunches!

Paddlechick666 · 20/05/2008 21:02

it's not so much about choice or me imposing on her. she can choose her shoes pretty much.

the issue is that she is obsessed that whatever the shoe is, it's not ON RIGHT cue meltdown!

anything with velcro has to be TIGHTER even tho they are right size and her little feet are marked by the tightness of the strap.

i tried the crocs, she loves them in principle "I love mine crocs Mummy" but actually they're a bit big and I think they will result in more paddies........

they're the right bloody size according to her last measurement.

ho hum, will see how tomorrow goes I guess. the only things we currently have any ease with her a lace-up boots. Not so good for warm weather.......

Ta for the insights tho.

slng · 20/05/2008 21:13

Paddle - ds1 always complains his shoes are on too tight (velcro fastening) if I put them on for him (when in a hurry). I just undo them and do them again exactly the same way and it seems to appease him. It seems that he only wants to be acknowledged and taken seriously. Does that work with dd? (Mind you ds1 is probably at a different stage of strangeness from you dd being just that bit older.)

Paddlechick666 · 20/05/2008 21:46

slng, we have a deal. i put them on, dd stands up and checks 'em out. if they're not right i do 'em again. in general that works okay.

i try to get her to tell me what the problem is rather than having a big flounce.

there are just some times when whatever i do isn't right. cue 20 minute meltdown a couple of weeks ago.

honestly? i think it's the blardy velcro! farkin devils work i tell ya!

OTOH, there are days the shoes go on and the sun shines and all is right with the world!

i just don't geddit!!!!!!!!!!!

stepfordwife · 20/05/2008 22:00

...mesing with our minds, paddle, messing with our minds

stepfordwife · 20/05/2008 22:05

well, foxie, don't know whether you'll see dd in bunches as she seems to be soooooooo over them now
actually, she said she'd have bunches if i did too
touching how she thinks i could carry it off, i suppose

btw, re dentist's appointment, remember i'm usually around mondays for babysitting duties (or negotiable on other days except my shirking working days)

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 22:12

I am just so annoyed, got dd to bed and bloody I well fell asleep for over 1hr there goes my evening, dh looks bemused while I rant

paddle about shoes, dd also makes huge fuss about assorted items of clothing on occasion, usually and if I don't loose my patience I try to avoid it f or example, like steppie providing firm choice. if I see meltdown looming I give time calm down and quietly keep going, it takes a few very frustrating 'goes' before the current obsession fades or moves on.

cov hope you feel better soon and enjoy your trip

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 22:14

go on steppie put some bunches on for your starbuck run

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 22:40

steppie exoskeleton vs invertibates is really very simple (patient sigh) just imagine a venn diagram with two overlapping sets neither is a subset of the other but they do intersect. See?

slng · 21/05/2008 08:37

But are there vertebrates with exoskeleton? Reptiles? (Turtles? That shell is not an exoskeleton, is it?) Hmm. Ask teacher what exactly exoskeleton means. Nails? Teeth? Fins? Endo- and exo- skeleton are not mutually exclusive, are they? (I've forgotten more biology facts than I remember ...) >

sfxmum · 21/05/2008 09:51

as long as it is biology should be ok, can't help much with English history although as far as I can tell it is just about the Tudors / war of the Roses / WW II

good morning all I hope assorted pains and sore bits are on the mend today.

dd was fighting invisible monsters last night between 12-2 am lots of fists waving in the air , while shouting, sitting up in bed with more shouting and all this while still asleep

'no monsters mummy don't be silly my dream was about green parakeets'

(perhaps genetically modified ones)

MrsRecycle · 21/05/2008 09:57

pc - have you tried doodles? Brilliant and washable. Also, we get over the paddy of what to wear the next day by getting the kids to lay their clothes out in a "clothes kid" at the side of their beds, for the next day. This includes everything they want to wear the next day (shoes also). They make the kid so they choose everything and then they put it on in the morning. No stress/no arguments.

COV - sorry to hear you're not feeling well - it must be the stress of the past few weeks catching up on you. Hope you get some ABs and manage to enjoy your break away.

MrsRecycle · 21/05/2008 09:58

sounds like the start of night-terrors sfx - scary for you at the time. Mind you I had a bad night last night, woke up feeling shattered, it felt like I'd run a marathon in my dream.

sfxmum · 21/05/2008 10:11

mrsR dd always has active noisy dreams atm it doesn't seem to be proper night terrors

btw saw your pics on FB they are gorgeous, can't believe how big ds is

MrsRecycle · 21/05/2008 12:05

oh thanks sfx - mind you they are old pictures (last year) will try and load some more current ones..

stepfordwife · 21/05/2008 12:38

oh, kew, if only the teacher had explained it like that i would have understood..

sing, yes, that's what confusing me..crustaceans and the like. he's in year 3. don't even get me started on his maths homework...

sfx..ah another vote of confidence for me being able to 'take" bunches...side pony tail anyone?
very annoying about falling asleep. i did that after putting mthem to bed the other night. woke up at 9pm, convinced it was 9am

COV, have a great trip. lots of R & R...and, of course, shopping
dh is working in new york for most of half-term..am consoling myself with a shopping list.

MrsR..very about your AP, btw. how dreadful for you. have you heard from her at all?

ros..what did doc say about ds's nose? they do bruise dreadfully.

right, dd is demanding lunch NOW. thank god for avocados..the ultimate healthy fast food
toodlepip

MrsRecycle · 21/05/2008 12:42

nope steppie and if I do I will tell her where to go (or actually dh will!). I've just cleared her room out, she's left a massive black bag full of stuff which I'm chucking. We don't get too much homework - the teachers are of the view that weekends/evenings are for leisure which is a good outlook.

slng · 21/05/2008 12:48

steppie - IMHO the problem with school maths and science is that it simplifies (inevitably) but some problems are simply not all that straightforward and if anyone dares to think too much they are in trouble unless they have good teachers (which no doubt your ds has) ramble ramble rant rant rant etc...

Must go and pick up dc from nursery. Will there be a tantrum on the way home today? Take your bets now!!

stepfordwife · 21/05/2008 12:51

mrsR, i think your school has a good attitude.
i agree, sing, and that is a problem/strength ds1 has inherited from me..we think too much. but we are training ourselves not to do that
happy tantrum-taming...

Kewcumber · 21/05/2008 13:00

Thast OK steppie - I knew it would help. But on reflection I'd agree with SLNG - what exoskeleton creature aren't invertibrates - I can;t think of any. Hooves, naisl etc are not exoskeleton. Skeleton = rigid framework that supports the body.

So in fatc (unles you can convince me otherwise) I withdraw my previous assertion for the replacement one that exoskeleton is in fact a sub-set of invertibrates.

My rates for maths homework are really very reasonable...

rosmerta · 21/05/2008 13:55

ok, all talk of maths and skeletons has just whizzed right over my head. Dh & I have already agreed our homework subjects when ds starts school!

Steppie, I think you should do bunches for the school run

Thanks for asking about ds. Dr couldn't tell if it was broken or not as it was still pretty swollen. Have to go back next week to get it checked, if its broken he'll have a wonky nose! Just need to make sure its not fractured as he might have to have an op then! But I'm keeping my fingers crossed its ok, doesn't seem to be bothering him today at all. B

We've been to Kew this morning but ds didn't feel like walking so we ended up on the 'choo choo train mummy'. Am I sad & old if I admit some of it was quite interesting? . Particularly liked the story about the sufragettes twice invading the gardens. Headline afterwards was apparently 'Mad Women Raid Kew'
