Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

Ds's sleeping used to be great but now he's waking up earlier & earlier! I think I'm going to start cutting back his afternoon nap a little & see if that makes a difference.

Sfx, thanks for asking after ds, appt is this afternoon.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 20/05/2008 14:07

breakfast used to be good here too from porridge to toast and egg no problems, not so these days, dd is asking for pasta with tomato sauce for dinner so will oblige

she will go for junk food no problem but that is only ok with be if she has had proper fod at some point during the day
actually not really junk food as such but cereal bars and the like

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 14:20

mellow - I like him to be in bed settled by 8.30 (preferably asleep) becasue otherwise I get no time to eat and do washing phone anyone etc before going to bed myslef. And he's inevitably up by 6.30am regardless of what time he went to bed. What time does little mellow wake?

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 14:21

ros re nose - I'm not entirely sure a GP will do anything even if it is broken! My father broke his nose as a child twice, once gave it a kink and the second straightened it out again!

Paddlechick666 · 20/05/2008 14:30

peeks in momentarily to empathise as follows:

mellow, same with dd. i worry she eats way too much and can quite easily pack away more than me on occasion.

kew, dd is going to sleep ever later and this morning was up at 5:30am . yesterday was 7:20am note to self: do not use child as alarm clock

sfx & sj prepare yourselves as I am about to trot out the most infuriating thing that the parent of an "eater" can to the parent of a "non-eater": no one ever heard of a toddler starving themselves to death
Sorry! Couldn't resist the opportunity!

ros, hope ds' nose is okay. we've had recent issues and dr visits but at the "other end". don't want to TMI anyone but dd is partaking of a lot of prunes at present!

hope everyone else well?

I am increasingly frustrated with the sale, or non-sale, of my flat. I really want to buy that house now!!!! Agent assures me another week or so and HA will come good.

I have 3 opportunities for a night out this week including an over 30's night in a pub.

I can't seem to be bothered to organise childcare for any of them tho.

oh dear..........

back to work, sorry to just jump in and out again.

ps: MrsR, glad you guys have figured out a life plan and really pleased I was able to help. Now I just need to figure out my own LOL

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 14:36

can you send me a life plan too please Paddle.

DS had similar problmes (really badly) when I first had him. Apricot nectar was recommended and worked a treat and taasted really yummy. Not sure where you'd get it here, might google for you. If it an ongoing problem perhaps incorporate into diet instead of apple juice which has no fibre in it.

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 14:40

paddle porridge and prunes lots of fresh fruit and water seem to work here LOL at nit starving I know

and about life plan I guess that is what made me flip last week, my essay is about planning study career etc got me all in a mess

I remember a friend who wrote an essay on the difficulties of writing essays it was very funny

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 14:41

not starving that is - do nits starve? might be cruel and unusual

mellow2 · 20/05/2008 15:01

Kew,
Dd gets up between 8.30 to 9.30 am depending on what time she goes to bed. She normally sleeps about 11 hours but she does go to bed a lot later than most children in this country.

Her cousins in Malaysia (oldest is 5) go to bed at 10 or 11 pm.

Paddle,
Have you tried giving mini paddle muesli? Swiss-style muesli works well with dd although she needs extra raisins to sweeten it.

slng · 20/05/2008 15:06

I hear black sesame paste works like prunes.

Domestic scene 1: unpacking of veg box

DS2 (finds onions): Oh yeah!
Me: That's an onion.
DS2: NO! APPLE!
DS2 (finds broccoli): Oh yeah!
Me: That's broccoli.
DS2: NO! FISH!
Me: I think you'll find that's broccoli.
DS2: NO NO NO! FISH FISH FISH!!!

Here endeth the lesson, whatever that might be.

Paddlechick666 · 20/05/2008 15:08

thanks for all the advice. it's not so much that she's not "going" it's just that she seems to have got a little tear in her bottom which is making it quite painful for her to "go".

went thru diet with dr and she's already having heaps of fibre and drinking plenty. dr actually gave me a mild laxative just to soften things up to give the tear time to heal.

haven't used it yet, a week of lots of prunes/dates/apricots is helping and things are definately on the mend.

sorry, TMI!

kew, am trying to find my life plan but i think it's fallen down the back of the bookshelf never to be seen again

anyone fancy The Wiggles 5th July Hammersmith Apollo £15 pp?

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 15:38

paddle if I had seen your post any sooner I would not have know what the Wiggles were, as it happens I put NickJr on and there it was strange men in brightly coloured rollneck jumpers scary

ouch on mini pads

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 15:56

ah well 8.30 -9.30 am wouldn't work for us Mellow I as have to be out of the house by around 7.30am!

Paddle I find too much fibre not always good - but lots of fruit and water (whether prunes or not). I'm also cutting down on DS's apple juice, he drinks such a lot at my mums I have asked her to dilute heavily. If nothing else its so bad for his teeth (not that that is relevant to any previous conversation)

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 15:57

DS doesn't know the wiggles so I'm not sure he'd sit still for them... is there a Thomas or Peppa Pig show on? I He also quite likes the new Rupert Bear on 5

rosmerta · 20/05/2008 16:26

Ds is now a big fan of Peppa Pig & also Charlie & Lola. Might try the Cbeebies show next time its on, definitely don't think he'd stay for it now.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 20/05/2008 16:31

If Thomas show was any indication dd would love the Cbeebies show. big fun of Peppa too.

my niece is apparently off to Italy for half term to some island in Tuscany home of her friends' granny

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 16:31

DS is absolutely obessed with Peppa - has the car and the train which he insists on getting out every time we play the DVD. Which is hardly at all, no siree, really I don't know the whole farking thing off by heart...

Paddlechick666 · 20/05/2008 16:44

Cbeebies last dec was fab. They don't need to sit still as they all get up and dance. Dd loved it.
She's really into the wiggles but peppa pig is big on her list too! No real thing for thomas as yet.
Think I'll book the wiggles as she'll be stoked! Her Aussie accent is really getting good LOL

rosmerta · 20/05/2008 17:07

I am the only one who finds the Wiggles a bit creepy?

OP posts:
SJ99 · 20/05/2008 17:57

DS likes the odd Wiggles tune on youtube but I wouldn't say he was fan. He too would prefer Beebies or Thomas show next time round. Ros - I personally think the Wiggles are pretty bizarre

stepfordwife · 20/05/2008 18:02

hello all
how you diddling?

hope the sore nose/sore bottom sufferers are ok

paddle, dd not really into the wiggles, but would deffo be up for a cbeebies one. remmeber taking the little fellas when they were, er, little and they loved it. tried to storm the stage and everything.

sfx, yes, it is an art not worrying about the 'what ifs", isn't it? in my advanced years am just about learning not to worry about something until if/when it actually happens. think that's mainly due to deleting reserves of emotional energy, tho

sushi, terre a terre veggie restaurant in brighton is fab..but not really posh or anything..and no good for committed carnivores, actually..
oohh! oooh! i've been to fat duck..ages ago shortly after it first opened. it was super - with equal imagination applied to the vegetarian food which is not always the case (she said bitterly)

dh went again recently with his mum and said it was great

stepfordwife · 20/05/2008 18:06

have lost the will to live doing ds1's helping ds1 with his homework
well, at the risk of sounding dim, all i can say is that i'm getting very confused between invertebrates and exoskeleton animals because some are both and his teacher seems to think there should be separate lists

am working at same time so hopefully mention of worms and centipedes won't creep into my stuff..

stepfordwife · 20/05/2008 18:10

meant to say fat duck was superb, not super..
no odds to you, my friends, i know, but wanted to put record straight as i'm not the sort of person who says super...

disclaimer: nothing wrong is you are the sort of person who says super, of course........

HI all. Am shattered. Think I have a sinus infection developing, when I bend over it feels like my eyes are going to explode! Have an appt tomorrow morning with gp - hopefully AB's but they won't kick in in time for the flight on Thursday morning. Not going to be much fun, but there is no way I'm not going, plus the ticket is non refundable and if I don't use it dh's office will make us pay for it.

Just a few last minute bits to do in the house, plus food shopping (because my parents can't possibly do that can they ) then rest will be mine!
