Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

I know. I'd love those restaurants in Barns/Kew respectively (easy to get home from, too) but have a feeling he will not get too impressed with the location.

SushiMummy · 20/05/2008 11:52

Has anyone tried/heard this one in Brighton? Just found it on the net.

slng · 20/05/2008 11:53

Sushi - report back if you go to fat duck! Has anyone been? Or hind's head?

We do the riverside brasserie every summer. It's very nice but perhaps not in the same class as fat duck ...

sfx - I'm an Evelyn Waugh fan, but agree it's an acquired taste. In fact some of it is positively dodgy by "modern" standards ... Also like PGW, but not the Jeeve ones. I like the pig ones better. Blandings, or something like that. Very impressed with your dh! As for Martin Amis, I've only read a couple of his old stuff. Didn't really like them but don't remember much. (But mustn't make libelous comments.) No sci fi for me - gives me nightmares...

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 11:56

mixed reviews sushi www.menureview.co.uk/23.html I'll email my friend who lives there see if she has any suggestions

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 12:01

how about this - an island on the river o/s windsortr - haven;t been for years though so no idea what the food is like these days but used to be quite posh and very nice location www.monkeyisland.co.uk/

SushiMummy · 20/05/2008 12:02

Ta, QC.

slng - Thanks for the suggestion - just left a message with the restaurant. Keep my finger crossed.

SushiMummy · 20/05/2008 12:19

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I really appreciate it - I've been asking people around but your suggestions are far better ones.

Right, off to Japan now. (back on this sat)

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 12:22

have fun Sushi - do we ned to keep researching restaurant suggestions whilst you're away? AHve emailed my brighton friend

SushiMummy · 20/05/2008 12:26

QC - I am hoping the one slng suggested comes back with good news. It's for 29 May so we don't have much time. I'll keep an eye on MN while in Japan so if you kindly let me know what your friends thinks of the restaurant in Brighton, that'd be great. TIA

OK, last call, do you want anything from Japan? Make the best use of the strong pounds!

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 12:32

have a nice time sushi

slng must at some point talk books in personwill tell dh you are impressed, think he will blush

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 12:46

reply from friend re brighton if you need back up plan...

"Graze on Western Road is my favourite - do lots of taster plates - just round corner from flat.
La Fourchette on western road - haven't tried it but has good reviews and is on list to try.
Pinxo People on Western Road - Spanish tapas - gets national reviews - have only eaten snacks downstairs but very nice."

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 12:47

more white mugs with swirly white pattern from Frank and Frank please (only kidding) lovely children shoes in size 7 would be nice too...

mellow2 · 20/05/2008 13:12

I've been to Hind Head. It's essentially pub food but done really well.

Sushi,
As far as French food goes, I really like Le Cercle in Chelsea 020 7901 9999. It's like French tapas food. You can have a different wine with each course and have 7 to 8 courses per meal. The only thing is that it's a basement restaurant although it's got a gorgeous interior. And no, I don't own shares in Le Cercle

Would your boss like pan-Asian or Italian food? I think E&O in Notting Hill and Zafferano in Knightsbridge are amazing.

mellow2 · 20/05/2008 13:15

Sushi,
I'm going to assume you were asking the MN group and not Kew. Can I have a bag of dried shitake mushrooms (if you're allowed to bring it into the country) and some of that lovely seasoning you gave dd? [shameless emoticon]
Dd wasn't very keen on it but I really love it. It's better than the MSG-laden ones I buy from the Japanese stores here.

SJ99 · 20/05/2008 13:24

Hello all, hope everyone well

Ros - hope all goes well at docs

Sushi - sorry not familiar with Brighton side restaurants but looks like you've got lots of good suggestions. Pity you couldn't get into Fat Duck that would've been an unforgettable experience. My bro went once and still raves about it. Can I be cheeky and ask you to bring back some of that sushi wrap that you had please? It tasted really good!
Enjoy your trip

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 13:29

all this restaurants I must make a note of and book dates with dh

dd has been on food strike and I keep chasing her with a fork or spoon trying to get her to eat, meanwhile I keep posting in silly threads for my amusement.

maybe will just take her for a walk

Sympathies sfx.

My problem is completely the opposite. I can't stop dd eating and I keep worrying that she's overdoing it as she eats larger portions than me!

rosmerta · 20/05/2008 13:46

mellow, ds is the same, will eat anything & everything that's put in front of him (except salad ) & usually asks for more as well.

Kewcumber · 20/05/2008 13:54

I'm very lucky with DS and food - he eats very normally (IMHO) which makes it much easier to ignore if he doesn;t eat because I know the following day he'll be back to normal unless ill.

Now sleeping is another matter! Was asleep slightly earlier yesterday - 8.30 but made up for it by waking this morning at 5.30am [yawn emoticon]

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 14:00

ros how is ds?

sympathies regarding sleep, dd is actually pretty easy with that bar the odd month or two when I thought I was loosing my marbles.
my strategy fro when she does not eat much is pasta or polenta which she is scoff without much hassle and we can always blend in some protein. I don't really worry that much it is just very frustrating as I know if she does not eat she is be cranky

mellow2 · 20/05/2008 14:01

Kew,
Dd goes to bed at 9.30pm most days . . .

sfxmum · 20/05/2008 14:01

she will scoff that is

slng · 20/05/2008 14:02

All this restaurants, and I don't fancy any one of them at the moment, not even Heston's - I'm going to Malaysia to have lovely lovely street and cafe food!

SJ99 · 20/05/2008 14:03

DS was nightmare baby as he never used to sleep or eat The sleeping is HEAPS better but eating is another matter. He's going through a phase of eating quite well atm but I'm sure that's only because his body is telling him to make up for the lost weight when he was teething/sick earlier in the year. I can generally count on him having breakfast though even if he eats nothing else the rest of the day
