Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

Kew, sorry to hear work so pants, that's tough for you. I think your strategy re: dealing with tantrums seems v sensible. I tend to try - wherever possible - to ignore tantrums and usually dd will calm down in her own time. Can be v tricky, tho. PC your dd is adorable and welcome to come and play anytime! I think we may have part of one of her cups here? A plastic dome-like thingy. Re: the house - I particularly like the garden. But as others have said, don't rush it. I'm a great example of doing just that and repenting at leisure, certainly in the current market! All this bread being baked in various homes sounds yum, so do people have bread machines or is it all being handmade?

stepfordwife · 12/05/2008 19:26

are you just trying to drive me off this thread with your talk of bread-making, my friends?
i've always been a late bloomer so maybe domestic goddess status is just round the corner

at 45, i've just started noticing heels and handbags. give it another decade and a purchase might be made.

kew, sorry about your friend losing his job, but glad it's not you. ds looked particularly cute in his check shirt today, btw. i do like a boy - child and adult - in a checked shirt. i was his second choice kiss after dd played hard to get.

sfx, we were at the rec today, but after school - no doubt you wisely avoided the scrum. they do love that paddling pool.

paddle, i'm with you on low cal stuff. if you're going to have it, have the proper stuff, imo. i'm slightly smug i don't like ice cream much...makes me thirsty, but good for hangovers.
heard from HA yet?

SJ. what a pain. good luck with re-negotiating price.

stepfordwife · 12/05/2008 19:27

hmm, rosemary, parsnip, carrot bread does sound fab, tho...

slng · 12/05/2008 19:38

steppie - no domestic goddess here, just like food ... What are heels and handbags? Funny I also don't like ice cream. Too cold and gives me a headache. Except that divine black sesame ice cream at Okawari ...

Bunyan - no bread machine. This hand-made bread business is easier than you think. Hardly any effort, none of all that kneading, and yummy result. And kids like the dough to play with.

I'm being sentry here, just to make sure ds2 doesn't try to chat too much with ds1 in bed. Odd how ds2 seems to need less sleep than ds1. But all seems quiet at the moment. Shall I run off to play now?

Paddlechick666 · 12/05/2008 20:05

what would happen if dd drank half a small beaker of possibly gone off milk?

she handed it back and said "i don't like it salty" and i have to say it definately tasted salty. not particularly sour or smelly tho.

am awaiting a flood of vomit now....

no word from HA, agent not returning my calls.

sj, keep us posted on the renegotiation.

steppie, baking could be just around the corner. i've only recently discovered handbags myself!

stepfordwife · 12/05/2008 20:06

sing, you've made me want some of that foodie ice-cream, now..

Kewcumber · 12/05/2008 20:35

I think its only the taste of off milk that would make you vomit, don;t think there's anything dangerous in sour milk (otherwise sour cream would be a no no, I'm thinking). DS was partly raised on Kefir which is a sour fermented yoghurt drink instead of formula - beleive me if a human being can stomach that a bit of slight off milk should be fine.

Paddlechick666 · 12/05/2008 20:44

thanks kew, all quiet so far.

also thanks for offer of your shed. glad to see dd would get to be in the house

unfortunately i've heard there are some rather annoying americans next door who keep punting balls over the fence - might irritate me in my garden palace shed

sfxmum · 12/05/2008 21:03

steppie LOL at domestic goddess, you must pop over one day to disabuse you of that notion entirely

bunyan like slng says easy peasy, quite tasty and can be done in stages, thankfully not very prescriptive.

KC hope ds settles earlier today

SJ let's hope you get things sorted, mighty feels like terrible bother now but you know it makes sense

sfxmum · 12/05/2008 21:04

paddle according to food safety guy cold rice is more dangerous sour milk just tastes foul

Kewcumber · 12/05/2008 21:08

at what time between 9.30 when DS finally settls and 10.15 when I head for bed (allowing time for dinenr) am I supposed to bake bread ffs! [exasperated emoticon] You lot are turning into bleedin Nigella.

No cakeat my house when I got home there appears to be a big mistake somewhere...

sfxmum · 12/05/2008 21:13

sadly Nigella without all the dosh does not seem very attractive

cake tomorrow if you behave

ComeOVeneer · 12/05/2008 21:14

No time for baking in this house atm either. Dh has come home from work with complaints that no cakes have visited the office in the past fortnight, and his chances of making partner are slipping

slng · 12/05/2008 21:26

COV - time for him to bake then?

Kew - Nigella!? Pah! >

SJ99 · 12/05/2008 22:11

Wasn't so adventurous with baking today - I made cheese scones for lunch, yum. Wouldn't mind the rosemary bread recipe though please Sfx

I did make my 1st ever meat lasgane today and DH said it was yum so I'm feeling proud of that

Vendor has at least agreed to listen to what we have to say (initially she said she wasn't flexible at all ). That's progress

Steppie - I lurve shoes and handbags, although I have to accept that my handbag nowadays is DS changing bag, not very chic

SJ99 · 12/05/2008 22:13

Meant to ask, did you think that the HV 2.5yr assessment was worth going to? I got a letter today to ask if I wanted to bring DS along

ComeOVeneer · 12/05/2008 22:16

Don't recall getting an appointment for a 2.5 for ds (but we moved a month after his 2nd birthday), can't recall that far back for dd. However perhaps that answers your question. I guess if you have any concerns then go. TBH I've tended to avoid most of the early year checks, particularly when dd was diagnosed as having a squint and hearing problems, both of which upon seeing a specialist in each field were ruled out.

ComeOVeneer · 12/05/2008 22:18

SLng, cooking he does (veery well infact, when he has time) baking - I don't think he would know where to start .

I too am a fan of shoes and handbags (had over 60 pairs of shoes at last count, and at least 20 bags). Am glad I am the other side of the nappy bag days.

sfxmum · 12/05/2008 22:24

we did go had a little chat dd played a bit and talked to the HV we were given books and leaflets and left pretty harmless

I love clothes shoes bags make up and perfume but since dd have been only been admiring it from afar lately seem to have been taking more of an interest - BUT I am not girly at all
no no not me

sfxmum · 12/05/2008 22:24

sorry meant SJ- 2.5 review

SJ99 · 12/05/2008 22:33

60 pairs of shoes suddenly I don't feel so guilty about my shoe collection It too has been sadly neglected after birth of DS. Fortunately, my ice cream fetish has not disappated! I'm hooked on the Ecuadorian Magmuns lately, mmmm

SJ99 · 12/05/2008 22:33

Magnums even

ComeOVeneer · 12/05/2008 22:38

I actually bought 2 more pairs yesterday, they are still in the bag in the boot of the car because I wanted to sneak them in without dh seeing but he was back from golf by the time I got home, and today I forgot about them . I wonder if there is a shoe equivalent of AA?

MrsRecycle · 13/05/2008 08:05

I'm the ultimate domestic Goddess - my Jimmy Choos are in the freezer - got chewing gum on them trying to freeze it off. I have small feet (2) so everytime I see a pair that fit, I buy them. Must have every colour going. Mind you dd1 is the same size as me so has just started borrowing them.

pc - give dd some motilium, ds had sour milk whilst on hols and was awful (but then he did have it every day without us realising the fridge turned off when we took the key out of the slot).

wish I had time for cooking/baking but too busy working, sorting out LOs/dh/AP/home...

Paddlechick666 · 13/05/2008 09:05

Morning all. Well dd was fine so no harm done. Poor ds mrsr.
Love jimmy choos in freezer!
Feel your pain on the baking front. I only managed it due to wfh day.
Bunyan et al thanks for kind words wrt dd. She is such a cheerful thing I guess I feel even worse when I am grumpy mummy. Plus it feels really serious when she does get so upset as she's normally so sunny. Refuses to let my grumps bring her down!
I'm just feeling so knackered! Been in bed early the last few nights. Am really pissed off with being back under the flight path. Can't even hear the tv at times!
please please let me have good news from the HA today!
Sj, good luck with the negotiations.
Enjoy the weather today people, forecast isn't great for next few days.
