Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

OP posts:
SJ99 · 09/05/2008 10:30

Hello all

Who said it could rain this morning? Especially when I'd just hung out all the washing in the garden

Bunyan, thanks for tips on tradesmen, will start getting some quotes after we've visited property at wkend. Enjoy the fair!

PC - sorry neighbours are still insane. Do you know what the hold up is with HA? I think Bushey fair is on the 11th as we wanted to go but realised we can't as had already agreed to lunch at a friend's

Sfx - sorry to hear pinkness is creeping in to your lifestyle, there is a purple-ish train called Lady which DS likes

Amanada - I have a loose appointment with dietician next Fri, hoping it will be am then we can maybe meet in afternoon. Will know more next wk

Slng - DS hayfever medicine is working a treat but doc recommended only giving it at bedtime due to drowsiness factor

Right, off shoe shopping for DS

MrsRecycle · 09/05/2008 10:43

Congrats sj - what brilliant news you're not going to name it Camber are you ? My db is a chippie and lives in Walton, so he knows of a few builders/sparkies - email me and I can get the numbers for you.

Amanda - what a coincidence - we're going to Camber Sands today (this evening though) - I have a caravan there. If you're ever there again, let me know and we can meet up for a drink/coffee.

In fact Camber seems to be the holiday destination of this thread paddle, sj, Foxie and I have all been there. We're even having a week away in August.

pc - sorry to hear about the neighbours, I'll keep everything crossed for the HA. I don't know how you put up with it - am so that you dd is scared in her own home.

It's dd1's 1st Birthday today - I know she's 10 but it's a year since she let God into her heart (we're not religious but she seems to be so let her follow her heart I say). dd2 is knackered, had trouble with maths so I showed her what to do and last night she didn't sleep as was practicising her sums all night. She woke me up this morning with sheets and sheets of Carole Vorderman sums, all correct.

Paddlechick666 · 09/05/2008 11:19

phew! monkey crisis over. major bedtime ishoooo last night as monkey nowhere to be found.

turned house upside down last night and again this morning. monkey now recovered from inside the duvet cover after a risky and protracted rescue mission!

MrsR, i am SO looking forward to August. Summer is going to be fab apparently this year. will reply to your email a bit later.

2 questions:

  1. anyone know where there's an up to date map of the flight path online? i seem to have had major noise since returning from US and am wondering if T5 has put me under the flight path again.....
  2. how does one toughen up one's in-between toe bits so that flip-flops can be worn?

sj, good luck with the house. i am so impatient now about mine. the agent hasn't pursued any viewings as they were 100% sure of the HA but it's been 4 or 5 weeks now and no definitive answer.

MrsRecycle · 09/05/2008 11:29

pc glad monkey was found - duvets always a good place to look - I find socks/toys there all the time.

  1. driving home through T5 last night (avoiding traffic on m25) I did think that the planes were flying remarkedly low. I've previously driven through and never noticed them. There are two runways - North and South and they vary the use of these so I think they are using the South one at the moment. But I could be wrong.

re.2 the only way is to wear flip-flops - mine are tuff enuf now.

sfxmum · 09/05/2008 11:36

oh lord why doesn't he leave ffs? messing up my day, no warning muter mutter mutter

glad monkey has been found, dd does not have a favourite toy just asks for random ones to cuddle at bedtime sending us in regular hunts

slng · 09/05/2008 11:47

Paddle - I've read somewhere in one of those token consultation documents from Ealing council that they propose shifting flight path. We have also noticed planes flying where no planes flew before.

Re favourite toys - both ds1 and ds2 ask for muslin squares despite having a whole population of animals to choose from. Very convenient!

sfx - does he read this!?

Paddlechick666 · 09/05/2008 11:50

yeah i am thinking this is the effect of T5. isn't there a noise compensation scheme where you can get funding for insulation etc?

dd also has a muslin square which she calls her muffin and it must be spread, just so, across her pillow!

night before last when the monsters were scaring her (ie: asbo neighbour) i went in to find her clutching all of the following:

Mummy Bear
Daddy Bear
Baby Bear
Sparkie
Monkey
Baby Pom Pom

She then said "mummy can you hold all these people so i can lie down" lol.

i asked her where she'd put monkey and she said "i didn't put him in my sofa"

sfxmum · 09/05/2008 11:51

slng no but will be quiet now can't really complain to the child

slng · 09/05/2008 11:58

Paddle - at least her monsters do exist (is that a good thing?) DS1's monster lived under the bed and had to be shooed out so he could hammer it and then I could waft it out of the window. Has to be said - monster hasn't been back since, which is more than what can be said about your dd's monster. Poor thing! (DD, not monster)

Paddlechick666 · 09/05/2008 12:02

slng yeah i wish i could deal with it the same way.

she had one of her doll's last night as substitute and i had to go in and tick dolly off for keeping dd awake LOL!

cue 10 mins of dd telling dolly "be quiet! i need lots of energy for school tomorrow"

i have worn my fli-flops and now have messy messy toes

MrsRecycle · 09/05/2008 12:09

oh no pc - I found the pvc one's awful - I've got some leather ones and they were much beeter.

lol at sparkie - ds has Pom as well who is his favourite.

Paddlechick666 · 09/05/2008 13:18

me too and these ones are a sort of fabric which i thought would be okay. may resort to attractive wrapping of elastoplast!

sfxmum · 09/05/2008 13:18

apparently 27C tomorrow, must dig out the skirts

MrsRecycle · 09/05/2008 13:58

oh brilliant sfx - dh has been a real sweetie, dsis/mil/neices are all visiting us tomorrow and he has planned a big picnic for us all in a large park close to Camber (bet the beach will be busy).

SJ99 · 09/05/2008 14:23

MrsR - LOL at baby being named Camber. Alas conception was prior to that, Twickers doesn't sound much better though does it?
Yes please to contact numbers, thank you in advance, I'll drop you an email next week about it once we've worked what needs doing urgently. Enjoy your picnic, sounds lovely.

Paddle - defo noticed increased plane noise since T5 opened, grrrr. Hope HA comes through for you, will certainly save you lots of hassle.

MrsR is right you just have to toughen your toes up to toe-posts. I've been wearing my flip flops all week and they only bugged me the 1st day, must be used to them now, phew.

The pains we women go through?!

slng · 09/05/2008 14:29

I don't have flip flops. I have a pair of 13-year-old sandals which I love and have had resoled ...

SJ99 · 09/05/2008 14:39

I confess to owning some Doc Martin sandals which I've had for about 10yrs. They're just sooooo comfy but as they're quite sturdy they come in handy when going for long walks when flip-flops just won't do

Actually, I've been referring to the bump as flip-flops as it's been incredibly active & feels like it's somersaulting all the time

sfxmum · 09/05/2008 15:07

I have some very comfy Rocketdog flip flops with thick sole and some Birkies deeply unfashionable I know but hate new summer shoes so pretty so hard to wear

MrsRecycle · 09/05/2008 15:32

sj - ds was like that, he hasn't changed one bit - decided to parachute off the bunk bed and fly down the stairs yesterday (both literally!).

fitfox · 09/05/2008 18:47

Hia

Heard nowt from prospective new employr yet so I guess I didn't get the jobby. Ros, how long did you have to wait.

Custom and practice in my sector is that you phone the successful candidate very fast - normally withing 24 hrs and then write "regret" letters to the rest after a week-0 days, once your 1st choice has confirmed they will take the job, which usually takes 4-5 days mulling over terms and conditions etc.

I think I would've heard by now..

MrsR does your DB make built in cupboards?? I am thinking of having some made....

LOL at baby "Camber" !!

Yes Camber Sands is luvverly!

I cant make the fair tomorrow as I have a full day ferrying DCs round to their various parties all day!

DS2 can climb on the toddler slide now and slides down, carefully, on his tum, feet first. The same method he uses to descend stairs!

Paddle - am with your bonkers neighbours - I wonder how many people they have driven out with their yobbish behaviour? Which HA are going to buy the flat then?

I still have the photos of my Holy Communion - Twas at the same church that DS will be "done" in

sfxmum · 09/05/2008 20:15

foxie sorry about the job if it turns out to be a loss

slng i am now baking the carrot parsnip and rosemary loaf and it smells gorgeous

rosmerta · 09/05/2008 21:25

evening all, had a bit of a quiet day today, I think already ds & I have had too much sun

Foxie, I had to wait once for about a week to be offered a job. Probably I was 2nd or 3rd choice! Still hoping it works out for you

Amanda & MrsR - have a lovely time at Camber

Paddle, I can't believe dd is scared in her own home . Did the HA say how long they would take to decide?

I think we might go back to Dukes Meadow tomorrow unless someone can enlighten me about Richmond Fair?

OP posts:
fitfox · 10/05/2008 08:59

Ros they said "we will be making a decision by the end of next week" - normally panels say "we will make a decison ASAP and you should hear by the end of next week".

Anyway - no point in me analysing what they are up to. I have a 25% chance as they only interviewed 4

Richmond Fair is loads of stalls from a variety of organisations, plus plant stalls, toy stalls etc etc and some boucy castle stuff. Its good for bumping into old friends but Dukes Meadow is probably better for LOs. I remember taking DS1 when he was 2, to Richmond Fair and he spent the entire time screaming to get out of his buggy until I placated him with a very large ice cream

Camber Sands must be lovely today, (she says rather wistfully...)

My Italian friend is over from Barcelona today and we are going to meet them later - in between racing around to various chldren'sactivities and birthday parties

Tomorrow we are hosting meeting of a political campaign group. They normally meet in dingey pubs, with names like "Bread and Roses", so I suggested they have a picnic in our back garden for a change of scene

Amanda78 · 10/05/2008 12:33

Hi All,

Many thanks for the congratulations!

Camber Sands yesterday was lovely. The beach is one of the best for a English resort and DD loved it. Initially petrified of the sand but got over that very quickly indeed!
As it was Friday, it was busy, but not hectic so the atmosphere was great too. There is also something about that area too, (well according to my DH) - apparently the weather is always a little brighter there due to some channel and clouds theory anyhow!
We also went to Dymchurch which again was very nice. Myself and DH was talking yesterday about booking a few days in Camber later in the summer!

SJ - Just keep me posted on Fri!

stepfordwife · 10/05/2008 13:05

hello everyone
welcome back and congratulations, amanda.

keeping my fingers crossed for you, foxie (always nice to be offered a job even if you don't want it, eh?)

paddle, good luck with HA..hope you hear soon.

ah yes, holy communion. well, i had measles on our 'big day" so coiuldn't do it. so i had to be 'done' at an ordinary sunday mass but still had to wear the bride get-up!
very especially as the frock was rather snug over my pot belly as it was a hand-me-down from my cousin..

have got a sore head..
went out last night and forgot i cannot drink these days, without paying the price. but felt like a normal person drinking in a lovely beer garden....h0-hum.

so no richmond fair for me today. am hoping dh will take brood out this afternoon so i don't have to feel guilty i'm ignoring them because of aforementioned sore head...
