sfx - ds2 will be 2 next month so he's perfecting the tantrum thing. He is the loveliest little boy though... I always think tantrums are my fault because I'm not on-the-ball enough to intercept it, which makes me doubly cross. But of course it is NOT MY FAULT - IT'S HIS!!! Harrumph.

Paddle - free plumber!!??

Sushi - Tilda who?

sfxmum · 05/03/2008 10:54

sushi I would be shocked if they went to catholic school

steppie are infiltrating our common group? maybe doing an expose for Tatler?

sfxmum · 05/03/2008 10:57

don't beat yourself up about it slng, no one can be on the ball all the time and tantrums are necessary anyway, just practice deep breathing and have a good moan

I find dd has different sorts of tantrums/ general behaviour with dh as we have different ways of interacting, albeit based on same sort of approach.
dh is super patient and his rambling manner seams to suit a toddler really well, they just drift along. I am just not like that

sfxmum · 05/03/2008 10:58

seems not seams

SJ99 · 05/03/2008 11:12

Back from library and duck feeding. Thanks Suhi. Dh had never heard of TS either, he thought she was Cate Blanchette when he saw her receive her recent award. You'll have to try and get an invite to her mansion & tell us mere mortals what it's like

PC - result on getting plumbing sorted and neighbours being quiet, sort of compensates for DD's tantrum.

I now think DS had a food reaction as his cheeks have been red all morning. So hard to know what could've caused it as he had homemade food all day apart from bics & fruit stick, but he's never reacted before to them...?

Slng - I know what you mean about feeling guilty, I think it goes with the territory sometimes, although in may case it's usually short lived before the next drama unfolds!

stepfordwife · 05/03/2008 11:15

sfx, harper's & quuen, actually, dahling

sing, ikwym about blaming yourself for tantrums. sometimes i have to remind myself i am the grown-up... i tend to keep it together vaguely most of the time, but when all 3 kick off in various ways at the same time, i lose it spectacularly..
ds1 says: "there she blows..."

and it just deoends how tired/stretched/stressed/bored you're feeling, doesn't it?

but no bad thing for them (within reason, of course) to know people are human and have their limits..and it's safe to practise on parents!

Paddlechick666 · 05/03/2008 11:23

i hate losing my rag with dd, always feel a spectacular failure aftwerwards.

but she drives me to it! honestly she does! i try being patient, i try be reasonable, i try being calm, i try distracting tactics but i often seem to end up yelling "HOW MANY BLOODY TIMES MUST I ASK YOU TO xyz" this morning it was stand still so i could do her hair.

15 bloody minutes to get a bunch of curls into a pony tail. with lots of interspersed wailing when threatened with not having a pony tail today!

CM texted after drop off to say that dd is telling all and sundry how unkind she has been to mummy this morning

steppie, the older i get the more of a snob i seem to become

stepfordwife · 05/03/2008 11:33

oh, paddle, taunt me, why don't you?
how i dream of putting a bunch of blond curls in a pony tail...

stepfordwife · 05/03/2008 11:35

...perhaps you should name-change to mrs bucket?...

Kewcumber · 05/03/2008 11:36

I'm a huge snob. Can't beleive I lower myself to speak to you lot on the net never mind actually meet you in person. The depths I have sunk to as a parent (Steppie - would you like to do article on me for H&Q - much more my bag I feel)

OP posts:
sfxmum · 05/03/2008 11:37

there is absolutely no way dd lets me anywhere near her hair I do guerilla type brushing.

she is still in her nightie refusing to go out because she says 'I am too busy playing thank you' and munching on the sandwich from her packed lunch - now that is success!

slng · 05/03/2008 11:40

I was called posh only once by a fake scottish man at a bar (fake because he mentioned Braveheart and my real scottish friend said no real scot would let that name pass their lips).

SJ99 · 05/03/2008 11:43

Slng

stepfordwife · 05/03/2008 11:47

sadly, kew, i fear i'm probably not H & Q's bag...{grin]
why aren't you swimming?
have popped your card through your ma's door, btw.

sfxmum · 05/03/2008 11:51

I am bored so I will tell you a story and bore you instead

dh has an uncle who was a teacher. a few years back, one of his pupils sent him a draft of a first novel for an opinion. Uncle was honest basically thought was rubbish.
the pupil got a book deal and is on 3rd book which he signs and sends to uncle always asking for opinion.
Uncle was bored and picked up 3rd book for a flight. In it there is a character with his name being quite a disreputable individual, some sort of game keeper in a sottish estate

Kewcumber · 05/03/2008 12:01

sfx - I used to work with James Patterson (Kiss teh girls) whilst he was writing his first book. His first few books (all written whilst still wokring) are full of names of our colleagues in the New York office - my immediate boss (the worldwide CFO) was a policeman!

Kewcumber · 05/03/2008 12:02

I'm planning to do the Kew Gardens tree identification tour next Saturday (15th). Anyone interested?

SJ99 · 05/03/2008 13:14

Can't do 15th as DS has 2 birthday parties that day, they're like buses eh?!

Let me know what tour is like though, may do it another time

ComeOVeneer · 05/03/2008 13:16

Hi all. I have just spent the morning making a 6 foot picture of an easter bunny, for a fundraiser at dd's school. I have realised I am getting old as I am in such pain from sitting on the floor for so long.

I too must confess that I have mistaken Tilda Swinton for Cate Blanchette (until someone on here pointed it out I thought it was Cate Blanchette who was in the Chronicles of Narnia ).

Right am now off to make a Pippi Longstocking costume for dd for world book day. (arrggghhh)

rosmerta · 05/03/2008 13:27

Hi all,

Sj, glad ds seems to be better, fingers crossed he hasn't eaten anything.

Ds woke up with the grumps this morning but fortunately he had the tantrums which could be resolved by a cuddle rather than a time out! He perked up at music class though and is now out for the count!

SJ99 · 05/03/2008 13:53

I used to sing Pippi Longstocking to DS he loves it, it is one of the few Swedish songs I still sing to DS, Pippi is huge over there an has her own museum.

Glad you banished the tantrums easily Ros. Funnily enough, this morning DS declared that there were 2 snakes at mini-Ros house. It was funny he remembered that even though it was wks ago since we visited you. I think he meant those plastic ones before you start to panic

slng · 05/03/2008 14:11

SJ - Astrid Lindgren did a few picture books about the Tomten. Do you know them? DS1 really likes them. They are spooky though.

rosmerta · 05/03/2008 14:15

sj at snakes! I loved Pippi Longstocking when I was young, don't know the songs or anything though!

Bloody car alarms, someone's has gone off in the street & woken ds up .

SJ99 · 05/03/2008 15:29

Slng - I know a swedish song about Tomten plus actions!! There is huge kids hospital named after AL as well as theme park, it's very popular over there. How come you're reading it?

Ros - don't you just hate it when that happens?
