chaddesden but only for last 6months before then hertfordshire so have very little knowledge of area, so get lost lots not even sure where ashbourne is.

jes74 · 31/01/2008 19:51

just looked at piccies on your profile your boys are so cute. i have no idea how to put photos on my profile.

MrsFish · 01/02/2008 10:01

You go to my mumsnet on the left hand side, log in and at the bottom there is a link 'share photos' you can then follow the instructions

Ashbourne is about 15 miles from Derby, go to the Mackworth Island (Esso/Macdonalds) from Ashbourne Road and go straight on - (if you know Mackworth Island you will know where I mean

Hi. I have only just joined, I thought that there would have been more mums from Derby on this site. I've only got one monkey, he's 8. I'm a MSc student.

jes74 · 07/02/2008 13:40

hi juliet123 lots use the main mumsnet but not this part it appears, whereabouts are you?
mrs fish thanks will try to upload when not feeding son at computer-seem to permanently feed him at computer as only time i get chance to get on here

juliet123 · 07/02/2008 16:20

Hi. I'm in the city centre, Allestree side. I've joined netmums aswell, there are alot of mums from Derby, they are a bit of a mixed bunch. I think that more mums would use this site if if was a bit more noticable. I only found it by exploring. I spent a short time working in Chaddesden, are you in the quiet side or the side with the more vocal residents?

jes74 · 07/02/2008 16:47

not sure am just off chaddesden lane near the park medical practice see i really dont know the area yet. does it get vocal then that could be interesting

juliet123 · 07/02/2008 21:33

I know where that is, it's nice around there. I spent some time working with the health visitors from there, they run a baby and toddler group in the hall on a Tuesday afternoon. There are bits of it that are a tad on the lively side, more towards the roe park estate, I've been here for 12 years and there's still parts that I don't know well. I live close to Markeaton Park, just off Ashbourne Road. It must be quite hard for you to move to an new area and not know anyone. Have you managed to get settled in ok?

jes74 · 08/02/2008 12:32

I get annoyed at still getting lost regularly. we moved here in june from watford as dh was offered a transfer at a time when we were house hunting and realised it would cripple us to buy a bigger house but needed too, our tiny two bed terrace no front garden or parking v small house literally 2 up 2 down and added on bathroom sold for 190,000 in unpopular area within a week of being on the market. and we needed a four bed at cost of around 300,000 again in poor location so made sense to move but i do miss my friends at least with my eldest two being at school i am meeting people and have just started using the baby toddler group on the tuesday as very conveniant for us so beginning to settle but need to find my way round a bit more. I do at least know where Markeaton park is although not used it yet,the park looks big when driving past.

juliet123 · 08/02/2008 14:18

It's lovely, the best bit of Derby I think. It has a small craft village inside, the paint a pot is great. The cafe's not so good though, like a greasy spoon. The river flows through the park so there's lots of ducks to feed. You can go boating, donkey riding (in the summer), there's a large paddling pool, a train, a mini golf area, a children's play area (it's split into big kids side and small kids side). When the weather gets warmer they have electric bikes that the children can use and bouncing castles. They always have the city bonfire and firework display there. Darley Abbbey is not too far away from there, towards the end of August they hava a massive open air classical music concert with fireworks. I'm just renting at the moment. My son only has a couple of years left at his school and I think I'm going have to move to find him somewhere that can manage him (he's very bright and can be a bit eccentric). I couldn't afford to buy myself though. Are the mums at school friendly?

jes74 · 08/02/2008 21:12

i must check the park out it sounds great, some of the mums are lovely and have really helped us settle. Their schools seem lovely especially the juniors who have my eldest to deal with he is also very bright but gets very frustrated as dyslexic and struggles badly with reading and writing yet has a memory like an elephant and absorbs information. schools seem so hit and miss to me, their last school was fantastic but the linked junior school to it is horrible and would never of met kierans needs.

avenanap · 08/02/2008 21:32

Hi, I've changed the name thing, too boring I've been told. My son's like that but without the dyslexia. My neighbours son is dyslexic though. I've gone private, the state school he was in couldn't cope with him, he started to misbehave (alot), was being told off all the time and became unhappy and anxious. It was so stressful, all talk. My neighbour moved her son to the school a couple of years ago, he's doing very well. The park's great. They have fire engine shows every year. People turn up in their fire engines and the children can sit in them. It's a bit geeky but the children like it. The university have a science fair for children (1st week in July), that's good fun aswell.

cloud2007 · 09/02/2008 22:19

HI
just joined

I have a 9 month old litle boy who is such a happy boy but doesn't sleep.
i am origonaaly from Walsall but have lived in Derby for 4 years

i take my son to water babies and jo jingles which he enjoys

avenanap · 09/02/2008 22:49

Hello Cloud. Give him a while and he'll settle down. My monkey's 8 so he's a bit older. I briefly remember 9 months. His first few years are a bit of a daze! Are you near the city centre?

cloud2007 · 10/02/2008 21:55

yes i live near spider island.

it goes so fast it seems like yesterday i was in labour

avenanap · 10/02/2008 23:02

I bet he's a joy. Is spider island near wilmorton? I'm the other side, off ashbourne road. They are lovely at that age. They don't walk and break things. Can't talk you to death, you can take them out and everyone smiles at you. This changes when they get to 2, all you hear is women tutting! I'm origionaly from Cannock chase, it's not that far freom Walsall. Do you get homesick?

jes74 · 10/02/2008 23:24

hello have spent weekend with ill dd so very little computer time.
Hello cloud 2007 and avenanap is a cool name change. seems derby attracts people to it.
kieran gets anxious but most of the time gives is rather cheeky even at school.
i cant wait until my ds3 is about nine months he giggled today for the first time i love it when they can interact that bit, trouble is then there is no stopping them dd 20 months told me on monday wee wee ran to toilet was lifted on and had a wee since then has refused nappies and has spent the week using the potty for each wee, but has done 2 poo's on the floor. and today she got her lunch box went to the front door and said school. She wants so much to do what her brothers do.

avenanap · 10/02/2008 23:44

Oh, is she feeling better now? I have ME so I thought avenanap was more fitting than juliet123.
Ohh, your little ones are so sweet. My kid pooped himself when he was potty training. He didn't like to use the loo. I went ballistic at him, have felt bad every time I think of this. It worked though. I get cheek. All the time. And the teachers. We've now reached a mutual understanding, I won't tell him off if he won't be cheeky. He has one warning, he's been quite lovely today. I took him to Markeaton Park. I get really bored though, just standing there with his bike. ZZZZ. He's been teaching little kids how to go down the slide headfirst. I'm popular with the mums at the park! His clothes were in a right state. He's got half term this week so he's coming to uni with me. They have been warned . Your half term's next week isn't it?

jes74 · 11/02/2008 00:04

she's fine now thankfully. their half term is next week which i am really looking forward to, now that you've said about the park i think we will be visiting it, is there any parking? your son sounds like my two when potty training must be a boy thing.
Must be hard having ME and a active son, who is so happy to teach others at such a young age the joys of slides, at least it wasn't standing up on the swings and jumping off or as i thought of it flying(i was about 7 i think).

avenanap · 11/02/2008 00:13

There's loads of parking. I think the entrance is opposite to McClogyourarteriesandgiveyoudiabetes. He's ok. I try and hold out until he's at school, then I go home and go back to sleep. Have missed a few lectures though. Holidays are boring for him though but he doesn't moan. I give him his breakfast and nod off on the sofa. He gets a blanket and covers me over. He's really lovely sometimes. I'm going to try to stay awake this week. The power of thought. And coffee. He doesn't stand up, he'd rather I tried to push him over the top. Is in nice and peaceful in Chadesden?

jes74 · 11/02/2008 00:37

it seems to be, mind you i'm that tired at mo through constant night feeds i notice nothing,at least they are getting less now. It's a shame the hols don't match up or he could of come here and helped my lot cause havoc. holidays are when they really miss their old friends as we always had a houseful of kids and mums chatting.
little one is sound asleep so i'm heading of to bed in the hope it's not another 4am start as today was.

avenanap · 11/02/2008 01:12

Ok. Sleep well. I think all the other holidays are the same. His are just longer . I'd like him to make some friends outside school.
