Mitchy - I have solved the police station question! I've just been into Debenham to take my recycling to the leisure centre (rock and roll lifestyle alert!) and came back by the new vets. The police station seems to have been squished into the side of the fire station. It's tiny but there's still one there.

We have stayed a few times at Ruth Watsons place - the Crown & Castle. Loved it although I was dreadfully concerned about the very still cat curled up on the chair Blush until I was enlightened.

MrsDeVere I am trying to get as many places listed as I can and will keep an eye out for things to do nearby your caravan. I also run the Norfolk local site which might also be of interest to you although have only been running it for three or so weeks and so it isn't as full of listings.

I have some sewing places listed in Felixstowe and other towns and they do post but might be a bit far away. Bury has a lovely independent sewing shop in St Johns St too.

LESuffolk · 16/03/2014 18:06

Lottie

I need to get that shop listed. Do you have the name? I so need the details of anything any of you think should be on the site.

LottieJenkins · 16/03/2014 18:09

LESuffolk · 16/03/2014 18:13

Thanks - will get that listed asap.

LESuffolk · 16/03/2014 18:17

Here are all the craft shops I have listed in Suffolk. Let me know if there are any I have missed.

thanksamillion · 16/03/2014 18:37

I think you'd be hard pushed to find a building in BSE that isn't old and beautiful Suffolk !

The Weatherspoons is in the Corn Exchange isn't it? We had many a 6th form ball there... (pre Weatherspoon days obviously)

TheOnlySeven · 16/03/2014 18:47

There's a wonderful wool shop in Beccles and the staff are so knowledgable and great for knitting advice. I can't remember the name but it's on Station Road

LESuffolk · 16/03/2014 18:53

Thanks

Yes Bury is one of the many towns where it pays to look up beyond the shop front. WH Smiths is a good example of this- superb mouldings on the upper floors. I enjoy wandering around the streets looking at the buildings and trying to place where long gone premises were. Did you know that there used to be four (I believe) gaols in the town centre alone?

I remember the balls at the Corn Exchange and when Bury had a Sainsbury's on market hill/Buttermarket. The balls are held at the Athaneum now. Every early Summer the Angel Hill is filled with excited kids dressed up- slightly bashful when they see eachother all dressed up. There is something so touching about the adolescent boys in their tuxedo's that makes me feel quite emotional. They look so vulnerable.

LESuffolk · 16/03/2014 18:53

Thanks Theonly I will look it up and list it tomorrow.

LESuffolk · 16/03/2014 18:59

Here's a Saxstead sunset courtesy of @windmilllodges on Twitter.

Thought you might all enjoy it. I am off to watch the Space Station programme but have really loved this thread and reading the comments. Will be back later but didn't want to just disappear (appearing rude Smile).

Vole3 · 16/03/2014 19:26

Trifling bit of lunch at The Coastguard Cottages, Dunwich

AlexTurnersmicropone · 16/03/2014 19:28

So excited to see this thread, I'm born, bred and live in Suffolk, just outside Ipswich now but grew up near Hadleigh, my family have farmed and milled here since time began I think.

I also had grandparents in Framlingham so knew that area pretty well also.

Vole3 · 16/03/2014 19:30

Mrs DV, there are a couple of shops in Beccles.
The wool shop is opposite the Public Hall and the sewing one nearer to the library. The latter is owned by a family who are slightly Royston Vasey type 'local people', but helpful and knowledgeable.
