LESuffolk Quilters Haven in Wickham

I was in The Fabric Shop in Eye yesterday as I needed to swap a zip which was 1" too long. When I said it was for jeans, Julie got the special jeans zips out from behind the counter & found the right size & colour. It was 10p more, but she wouldn't take the extra, bless her. That's why I love living in Suffolk!

Yes are on tour at the moment, I suspect that's why we haven't seen Rick Wakeman around for a while.

LESuffolk · 17/03/2014 09:19

Wow- loads to list there. Thanks so much! Flowers

Dawndonnaagain · 18/03/2014 15:08

mymate
There is a picture of my uncle (by marriage) in the White Hart. It would seem likely that you must have known him.

mymatemax · 19/03/2014 19:54

Really Dawn, I'm intrigued now.. Is he an old landlord?

Dawndonnaagain · 19/03/2014 20:33

No, an old sailor, died a few years ago. Initials are J. H.

mymatemax · 19/03/2014 23:07

me & dh are trying to think who it could be, lots of old sailors in there but to have his picture he must've been a regular.
We have a good excuse to go for a drink tomorrow :)
Will report back!

Dawndonnaagain · 20/03/2014 08:23

See, a Suffolk mystery, we have it all, even an excuse to go to the pub! Grin

CatherineMumsnet · 25/03/2014 20:15

Hi OP, would you mind if we moved your thread to the Suffolk talk board?

Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 07:28

:) that's a great idea

My Great-Aunt who died aged 106 could remember the Peasenhall Murder happening! She used to talk about it vividly. We often drive past Providence House and I look at Rose's bedroom window and imagine the candle burning there!
Peasenhall Murder

Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 09:06

that's fascinating, never heard of the peasenhall murder before

so how was he tried twice, we had double jeopardy until recently?

OP posts:
Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 09:08

oh I see, I should have read the whole wikipedia thing

Kudzugirl · 26/03/2014 09:10

That is fascinating Lottie. Normally all you hear about is the Red Barn Murder yet this is just as interesting, if not more.

Naice ham in Peasenhall too. By Emmetts and you can go watch them make it.

Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 09:19

did the police really think she stabbed herself to death? it doesn't sound like the most plausible line of enquiry

OP posts:
Kudzugirl · 26/03/2014 09:21

Nowadays forensics would be able to tell whether this was possible. People do stab themselves but it is apparent when this is the case.

They think it was the jealous wife. That poor servant girl.

Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 09:25

why don't they think it was the man, he had the most to lose and men are more stabby generally

women prefer to use poison in books anyway

I'm not sure but am curious enough to go and have a dig around. The Suffolk records office is a great place to research stuff like this alongside the more usual online sources.

Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 09:41

oh please keep us posted, it would be interesting to know if the Gardiners went on to inseminate and murder any other young women anywhere

LottieJenkins · 26/03/2014 09:48

About twenty years ago late DH and I went and found RH's grave in Peasenhall cemetery.

Mitchy1nge · 26/03/2014 09:53

poor Rose and her baby :(

if you scroll >>> and down there is some stuff about the trials from 1903

it just seems so much more likely to be the pervy preacher, people just felt sorry for him

My Great Aunt told me that there was a terrific thunderstorm on the night of the murder. GA was very outspoken and told me that she "didn't like those Harsent women, they were all fast pieces!!!!"

Kudzugirl · 26/03/2014 10:01

Love that term

It still has legs!
