Hello

Just popping in and saw thread already full up! The craziness of November is well and truly under way. Sorry I'm behind on your news, hope everyone is well.

The scarf video, I thought she was going to hang herself for the final tie Grin

Still undecided about floor, have got loads of samples ordered. I want a fresh, modern look whereas Dh wants more clinical, utlitarian (sp?) look, need to find something that we both like Hmm

birthday party for class: whatever you do don't do snakes and ladders. Grin How about swimming pool?

sfxmum · 13/04/2012 18:48

No fear sanes and ladders reminds me of the poo I found there once, dd was crying, stuck not knowing where to go

exam is horsy stuff, to see that she can control the horse and get it to a trot and so on

tillyfernackerpants · 13/04/2012 20:41

sanes and ladders sfx? Wouldn't that be an oxymoron or something? Grin

sfxmum · 13/04/2012 21:35

indeed Tilly indeed Grin

Kewcumber · 13/04/2012 21:45

what shall I do with DS tomorrow. Anyone have any inspiration - I'm running short of cheapish ideas. If the weather is good will just hit the park or Kew G but any ideas?

tillyfernackerpants · 13/04/2012 22:17

The pirate ship playground at Hyde Park? HMS Belfast? Museum of Childhood?

UptoapointLordCopper · 13/04/2012 22:37

Free (but much smaller) pirate ship at Horsenden. And you can climb Horsenden hill. Take a walk along the canal to see the north circular aqueduct Grin. And I think there are two wacky warehouses nearby, which are not as bad as snakes and ladders though close. Unfortunately we are not around tomorrow, or we'll definitely be up for the aforementioned activity.

Kewcumber · 14/04/2012 00:13

thanks tilly but was thinking something more local! End of two weeks school hols as a single parent is stretching my enthusiasm for expeditions! Todays amusement involevd a bus and Poundland and Burger King!

vbus · 15/04/2012 14:12

Hello all Smile

Everyone survived the holidays? Wink

Back from our lovely trip exploring the W.Country, we had a great time. What a great spot and everyone was so friendly. Only complaint was that it went too fast

Been to Bushy Park today, it was freezing!

Contemplating Legoland tomorrow as DS1 has an inset day. Not been before, any tips/areas to avoid?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 15/04/2012 19:25

hello
Vbus West Country adventures sound nice
Legoland I have only been once and it was raining the entire time, still we did the boats thing the train the wheel that has pods/seats that go around and the little world thing, it is marked by age on the map so that is usually a good guide I think

Here we went for Dim Sum at imperial China with 2 other families then to one of their houses.
They want to make this a regular feature but I don't think I can take it, dh has been arsy about it since Friday and frankly it is more drama than I care to endure, I turned out to be in a bad mood after all the arsyness and ended up arguing with one of them about their weak baseless arguments for social policy Blush oh dear
this never happens on our nights out Grin

come on when is the next one?

sfxmum · 15/04/2012 19:26

Holidays, on the other hand were delightful

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/04/2012 19:35

Hello!

vbus - welcome back! Legoland: been once, did the viking boat trip thing and various helicopter/train type things. Also the driving school. Quite fun, actually. The ones for the younger kids seemed less crowded. Bring waterproof jackets or a change of clothing. Bring own food.

sfx - you should go to imperial china with us. We never argue about anything. We concentrate on eating and stopping the kids from playing under the table... What was arsyness about?

DS2's birthday party today. Two families from school + MIL and BIL. Kids basically looked after themselves. Grown-ups ate and drank and talked. We did have some talk/debate/argument about the boy-brain/girl-brain business but luckily there was enough other talk to dilute it...

vbus · 15/04/2012 20:41

Copper - happy birthday to your DS2, how old is he now?

Sfx - don't you like the people who arranged the lunch then?!

Thanks for survival tips, driving school does look fab, good idea with waterproofs. Age related map will be really helpful. I shall take plenty of food then

We went to new neighbours housewarming this afternoon which was really nice. Thankfully our next door neighbour has decided to be all friendly again, phew.

Can we go to Imperial China for next meet up pleeeeaaaase?

sfxmum · 15/04/2012 21:19

copper happy birthday to your ds

copper/vbus people are fine it is dh who makes a fuss about going out with people and meeting people and socializing in general, he goes on and on and on about imagined problems then sort of looks miserable the entire time, it is frankly annoying that is why we never socialise. I only arranged this because he know both families fairly well and because he told me we should make an effort to be more sociable, I think he meant him but anyway

it is very draining

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/04/2012 21:28

DS2 is 6. On his actual birthday he woke me up at 4.58am to ask if he could open his presents yet. He has calmed down a bit since.

sfx - I seem to be the one to organise social things too. But DH is sociable. You should bring him here one day. Grin

We are not back to school till Wednesday. How about everyone else?

What's Imperial China like in the evening? Have only ever been for dim sum.

sfxmum · 15/04/2012 21:36

we are back to school tomorrow
I like their dim sum the people we were with ordered loads I ate a lot of prawns and pork things it was lovely

Kewcumber · 16/04/2012 11:11

Your DH needs to come out with me SFX - I witter on whomever I'm with and rarely notice if anyone is looking or behaving antisocially!

Lovely run along the river this morning - have acquired a run-buddy from school on Weds, we'll see how that goes as I'm the slowest runner in the world...

islandhaze · 16/04/2012 17:02

Hello everybody!

I am up for a meet up too. We are back to school today, but were very late, as we found our car glass smash on the front , and nothing was stolen...gps, ipod all in place.just the window.so upset. seems like there were couple more cars vandalised near by. the neighbours assuring me, that nothing like that happened in 5 years while they live here.

Vbus, Hope Legolend was fun! its on our plans sometime soon too.
Sfx, are you writing about my DH? :D I think if we bring them together, they would be fine :D

And one of the next meet up, can be at my place, we could make a nice grill or smth. But i am absolutely up for a Imperial China ;)

tillyfernackerpants · 16/04/2012 17:38

I've never been to Imperial China so would definitely be up for that!

Island, sorry to hear about the vandalism, at least nothing stolen. Round my way, about 5 cars have been broken into and apparently had petrol siphoned off leaving an empty tank Shock

sfxmum · 16/04/2012 19:02

island that is awful, you are not getting much luck with that care, all the crazies come out

what a lovely day nice run in the morning nice walk to and from pool after school, some work in between, perfect, apparently rain for the rst of the week, think will go swimming after drop off

will make husband socialise more then but Island he definitely is like yours they can be silent together playing with their toys Grin with the positive that they will have a good time
but it is weird the man is actually charming and funny

vbus · 16/04/2012 21:01

Island - sorry to hear about car Sad at least nothing was taken

Copper - that is cute of your DS2! I think it would be fine in evening at Imperial China. i've only been for lunch but my mum ordered some dishes from main menu and they were lovely

Tilly - how is your sourdough going? any chance you can bring some on Weds please?

Sfx - it is sometimes hard work with men and the social scene, I can see your frustration. My DH is v.sociable and friendly but doesn't always like to socialise unless it's with people we already know well (his comfort zone!) He says it's because he spends a lot of time at work in meetings and talking to people all day that he wants some quiet time at wkends which I can understand. I OTOH after spending most of the week with 2 children like to socialise and am in need of adult conversation Grin

Legoland was fab, had a great day out Smile Glad we had vouchers and really pleased not to have gone during peak holidays!

Kora · 16/04/2012 21:27

Hello everyone Smile and wave! It's been too long. I'm not even sure what I've been doing, nothing super exciting - working quite hard I suppose, dealing with kiddie illnesses (one case of bad flu, otherwise just coughs and colds but dragged on and on) and then lots of visiting relatives at weekends etc. Have really enjoyed hanging out with the DDs over Easter. My youngest is saying her first words. Also developing lots of cheekiness and some crazy curls. Eldest is at that "interesting conversation" stage. She asked me about c-sections the other day!!! She seemed reassured that some pain relief and a screen is involved. What next!?? Hmmm, she's growing up... Hmm

Glad to hear Easter break went well mostly (though sorry to hear about your car, Island - horrid to have stuff broken into). On the DH socialising front, my DH's speciality, with people he doesn't know well, is to mutter and constantly check phone in full sight of everyone as somehow I always manage to arrange something that clashes with a "vital" football fixture. I'm always surprised by how much he likes sport, but there you go - we all need a hobby.

Not sure I know Imperial China. I need to get out more!!

Semi-exciting news is that I've picked up my guitar for the first time in about a year! I'm extremely rubbish (never was that talented, and now very rusty) but managed to work out the riff to "She bangs the drums". As long as John Squire never passes our way, I can be happily deluded... Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 17/04/2012 08:34

Good morning!

We have another day off school. Smile We should really be taking the opportunity and do central London museums and things, but everyone is too lazy to move ...

Island - Hello! And sorry to hear about the car. Angry Hope it's all fixed without too much trouble. We only had one vandalism in 7 years. Unfortunately/fortunately it was a rental car. Somebody took a dislike to the wing mirror.

vbus - glad you enjoyed Legoland. Kids even had a school trip there. It's not bad as far as themed parks go.

Kora - well-done on picking up guitar! My new year resolution of playing through the first 2 books of beginner's recorder has not even begun yet. But there are a few more months yet to go. Grin

sfxmum · 18/04/2012 10:07

hello half way through the school week, very tired child who zonks out once head hits pillow - lovely

Kora that is nice, you should not let go of things you like, keep practising and enjoying it

I am somewhat stressed by my next assignment, due in a week and for which I am really very badly prepared having neglected it for weeks
it is also my weakest skill trudging through statistical data, making sense of it and presenting it in a concise and clear manner Hmm doomed I am doomed
Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 18/04/2012 11:04

Hello!

DS1 had a slight temperature last night but OK today and went off to school ... I'm supposed to be meeting up with a friend. Booked a posh restaurant but decided to cancel in case school phones up. But will ferry friend home for home-cooked meal.

sfx - misinterpretation of statistic essential skill. Grin
