Wow we filled the thread guys. So as I was about to Say UR you've probably had squirrel if you've eaten Chinese . Think I've had most things. Just don't ask eat. Roasting hot here, very busy but having a blast. Enjoyed our new gym yesterday and picnic in the park tonight which was wonderful. Live music, handsome young men - need I say more.

Mixed peel is candied peel. I keep meaning to make some since it looks fairly easy. But then so did marshmallows and we all know how that turned out...

LOL @ guessing games by yourself, Dooney. Whatchya got then? Well done for finishing your shopping.

We had 'xmas day' today. Pressies (well, DS) and food. Was lovely. Dinner got this marble run and I played with it all afternoon. He didn't even realise it is meant to have batteries and I plan to make sure it stays that way.

jabberwocky · 04/12/2008 02:20

Lol, dooney, I remember the Xmas guessing game from last year

Superbunny, it does sound easy to make candied peel. Maybe next year...

SuperBunny · 04/12/2008 02:29

I think Califrau should make it with her glut of lemons then report back so I know whether or not it is safe for me to try. I think she is safe with sugar. Just not walnuts and glueguns.

Hope you are ok, Jabber

We've had loads of fun the past week. We went to Zoo Lights on Sunday when ILs were still here. It was the first time for all of us. The kids had so much fun.

Last night the fire department did their annual toy and food drive, and drove through the neighborhood with a pile of fire and police trucks, and a truck with Santa and his sleigh on top. The bad thing was Colin already realized that wasn't really Santa. I told him the real Santa was busy getting ready for Christmas, so he had to have other helper Santas until Christmas. He seemed fine with that for now.

SB, I'm not ignoring your question, just waiting for a more opportune time.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 04/12/2008 02:55

You lucky buggers!

Livin in America am very how are you all over there and what time is it?

Just being nosey.

SuperBunny · 04/12/2008 02:58

I can wait! I'm just nosey...

I was surprised that DS didn't seem at all fazed by seeing 2 rather different Santas in 2 days. It didn't occur to him to question it. I love this age

SuperBunny · 04/12/2008 03:03

mamadiva, it's 9pm here. I am slightly of people in England. Especially since it has been quite cold here this week and I've already almost fallen over on the ice. After falling last year, I am really scared.

dooneygirl · 04/12/2008 03:28

Oh, I didn't think it was a pressing issue. Just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you.

dooneygirl · 04/12/2008 03:37

There are 2 transactions, both to the Mothership. The first is in an amount that can only be a gift card. I'm so proud he's gotten over his idea that gift cards are thoughtless. I told him they were the gift of shopping, and when he complained I was impossible to buy for last year, I told him that was ridiculous, that he could buy me Macy's giftcards every Christmas and birthday, and I would be nothing but happy.

The other was an amount that if you took the sale price of the kitchen aid pasta roller attachment and took off the amount of the coupon that is missing from the Sunday paper, you would get that amount. Just a guess, but he has to only have bought 1 thing, since the amount ends in .99.

dooneygirl · 04/12/2008 03:38

Oh, and it is 7:38 pm here, and everything is Christmassy herem for those who asked.

SuperBunny · 04/12/2008 03:46

lol Dooney. What a super sleuth! Lovely gifts. @ all things Kitchen Aid

alipiggie · 04/12/2008 03:51

Sounds perfect . I of course buy my own gifts from everyone, so no surprises for me anyway. Got all the stocking fillers done, although not mine yet - lol. Just awaiting money transfer from the UK then off to buy the boys big pressies from all and DS1's birthday pressie.

It's SNOWING here - sigh, all pretty and I've got some free wood today so the wood stove is crackling away. All I need is the romance now lol.

anorak · 04/12/2008 14:55

jabberwocky I'm so sorry to read about your friends

I'm off to the hospital around lunchtime to see my surgeon. If he's happy that everything's healing OK he will give me permission to fly home on Saturday.

Although I sometimes can't buy basics like carrots and tomatoes in Bermuda, I can at least obtain a good selection of British food such as proper Irish sausages, dried fruits, Cadbury's chocolate, etc. Only trouble is these things cost a fortune $10 for 6 sausages, $7 for a large bar of fruit and nut, and so on.

We had a great time up at Dartmouth with my friends. She took us to Target and I got some good bits and pieces for DS. She also took us to a big store called the Christmas Tree Shop - excellent stocking-fillers and all kinds of Christmassy things.

jabberwocky · 04/12/2008 15:11

Thank you anorak. It's so sweet of you to think of me in the middle of everything that you are dealing with right now. Yesterday was a better day. It's been a week and a half so maybe the healing is starting. I still catch my breath when I see things that make me think of them. I suppose that will continue for a long time.

We are doing a different thing for Christmas this year. Everyone in the family chipped in for a donation to the Heifer Project instead of buying adult gifts. I did get something for dh though. It's been rather nice just concentrating on gifts for the little ones in the family. My two are the toughest to buy for!

anorak · 04/12/2008 21:39

Well the surgeon says I can go home on Saturday, although at first he wanted me to stay another week.

On the down side he told me he wants me to come back for more surgery in 2-3 months, to have a nipple made and to have my other breast lifted to match the new one.

Heigh-ho...

SuperBunny · 05/12/2008 01:33

Great news, Anorak. I think. Is the additional surgery unexpected? How are you feeling about it all? I am glad you are well enough to travel.

I'd forgotten about Christmas Tree shops - they must be a New England thing.

Dooney, we went to the Nature Museum today and DS kept saying, "Where are Colin and Caitlin? Where's their mummy? What is their Daddy doing?" Oddly, he was scared of the butterflies but when we left he said, "I liked it when we saw Colin and Caitlin. We should do that again. But only the end but when they chased me"

Snow.

alipiggie · 05/12/2008 01:40

Jabberwocky I'm sorry I totally overlooked your news. I'm so very sorry. I caught that on CNN. Please accept my apologies for not reacting sooner .

So we've had 5" snow here today. Feeling festive. Wood fire burning. All hunky dory.

Take care everyone.

dooneygirl · 05/12/2008 02:44

I have no snow, but am incredibly festive. Wait, I mean INCREDIBLY festive. I always am on some huge high between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I just get so excited thinking about the kids and the fact that they are able to celebrate, and what their little faces will look like Christmas morning.

Glad you can come home, Anorak. Sorry you have to make another trip.

Oh, I'm happy Dinner still remembers us and had a good time. I finally downloaded all my pics off the camera, and was so angry that I forgot to bring it that day. It was so much fun to go on a trip and meet someone there, especially since you guys were nice and fun. And brought me lemon drizzle cupcakes. You're in with me for life if you bring me anything involving cake.

dooneygirl · 05/12/2008 02:49

I forgot to say mixed peel intrigues me. I'm used to candied peel being in the long, thin strips. I really want to eat the mixed peel in the first picture in Cali's link, but I think it is because the yellow kind of looks like crystallized ginger, and I love that.

I saw another Cali Christmas name yesterday. I got really irritated. I know there's a Cali out there, and I can barely live with that, but it gets confusing at Christmas when you change your name anyway.

anorak · 05/12/2008 14:10

I suppose I should have realised I would need more surgery but no one mentioned it and I didn't give it much thought.

I'm a bit perturbed as I've read about various methods of nipple construction - some procedures involve using pieces of your labia. A sharp intake of breath...

Kimi and I are going to meet Mananny for lunch today, in Legal Seafoods.

dooneygirl · 05/12/2008 15:05
jabberwocky · 05/12/2008 16:25

Thanks, ali. I am starting to get a little better. Still have moments of sheer disbelief though

Lol at dooney-the-Xmas-elf

anorak, I had wondered about the nipple reconstruction. Was pretty sure it might involve "borrowing" some tissue from down there

jabberwocky · 05/12/2008 16:26

oops I forgot that : + o equals a grin. That last emoticon was supposed to be
