Moving to NJ from the UK

I have the possibility of moving from Surrey to NJ, with work. I would have a relocation package and salary in the region of 300k, my husband wouldn’t work for a while and we have 3 children 13, 10, 7. My office would be in Whippany and I would need to be there 2-3 times a week. Is this enough of a salary? Where is a family place to live with good schools? We live in Surrey in the Surrey Hills and live the countryside. I am worried about the politics and crime. Any advice welcome

Towns like Summit and Montclair are international buzzy towns from what I hear. Good public schools as well:

We moved 4 years ago for job security and financial security that the UK couldn’t and still can’t offer. It’s great for those in professions that don’t have a ceiling but my husband could see where his job was heading (fairly senior) and his job moved to where the market is. That is the USA right now. UK just can’t compete unfortunately. Maybe one day again.

He also finds that the work is more interesting and varied. More doors being opened, higher level discussions etc.

I also believe career progression etc is paramount decision making if you have bills to pay, kids to raise a depending your sector job insecurity.

I moved with children older than yours and one same age. They are at good ages to move. They may like it the may not. They have horrid time at school in UK they may not. Nothing is guaranteed. Just go with a back up plan with you husband in case someone is not happy, agreed timeframes - a get out clause if you like for anyone of you.

Honestly three years will fly by and it could provide them with a fantastic experience. Even the hard times are lessons.

Parts of NU is like Surrey. You’ll be fine. Your kids will be fine as they having loving parents who will support their needs!
