Oh no sittingbull. Tell us more. That's really tough with a 2 and 3 yr old to care for.

OverRated · 29/01/2008 19:00

Oh sitting bull - do you have any help? I'd offer but am too far away to be any good. It must be very hard with 2 little ones around. Sending lots of positive vibes your way.

Thinking of you too Anorak. Hope today wasn't too awful. Do you do Kakuro? I have a brand new book of puzzles that I just don't get. I'd be happy to send it to you if it'll be any good. I know my Dad got very bored while has was sitting round having his chemotherapy.

chocc, I would wait outside the classroom with the mailer ready and say brightly "Well then, all we have to do is add your form and it's ready to go"
[grin}

anorak, good luck with the chemo. Don't they have some new type that doesn't make you as sick?

SB, good luck with surgery. My thoughts are with you.

anorak · 29/01/2008 23:30

All the best to you SittingBull, do keep us posted won't you?

Thanks for the offer, OverRated, but I have plenty to do. What is kakuro - something related to sudoku?

So far so good, have eaten a meal and now waiting to see if nausea will strike. Cancer is a curious illness. I felt fine before I knew I had it, but all the treatments I've had have made me ill. Obviously that's how it is, but it's quite weird

anorak · 29/01/2008 23:31

sorry jabberwocky, in answer to your question yes they do but I'm not having that one!

OverRated · 29/01/2008 23:47

I like Jabberwocky's suggestion, chochip

Actually, I am not sure what kakuro is but I think it is similar to sudoku in that you have to put things (letters?) in the right place in a grid. Shall dig the book out later and see.

Glad things are ok so far, anorak. It does seem awful that the treatment often makes people worse than the illness itself. But I suppose, at least there is treatment.

OP posts:
anorak · 30/01/2008 00:16

Yes the treatment is very good these days. What you say about letters in grid does ring a bell, actually.

dooneygirl · 30/01/2008 02:31

Let us know how you are doing, Sitting Bull.

Anorak--hope you do as well as possible with your chemo. Have watched my sister and MIL go through it and no fun. However, both of them had the strongest and one of the strongest out there.

We had fun with in-laws. But our drive home Saturday was 2 hours longer than it should have been, due to a big snowstorm. We had no chains, and made it over the 3 mountain passes before they started checking if you had chains, and eventually closing them. We saw so many cars on the side of the road, and watched one get in an accident and spun around and thrown back our direction.

DH's step-mom got bronchitis when we were there, and now Colin has really bad croup. It is the worst it has been in a long time. We've had to go to the ER before with him. I hate croup so much because there really isn't anything to do but plenty of liquids and steam or cold air, and I wish I could do more for him. He's with daddy right now, and more perked up than he's been all day.

jabberwocky · 30/01/2008 19:49

Oh, I hate croup Sounds like a harrowing experience driving home. I'm glad you made it OK.

dodgykeeper · 30/01/2008 23:40

Oh Dooney, Im so glad were past the croup stage; my ds got it bad and its always so upsetting to see your baby upset like that. Make sure you get a bit of a break from it if you possibly can - even a trip to the store on your own helps you stay calm. I remember those nights spent in a steamy bathroom - no hope of sleep for either of us.

anorak, I hope everything went well. My friend lost all her hair when she had chemo but ended up keeping it short a la Sinead O Connor as she looked totally stunning. You never know! Im thinking of you.

Sb, sounds like you have some support there. Hope everything goes well. Feel free to vent here - its hard keeping up a cheerful front for the kids.

dodgy, I have a friend who wears her hair about a 1/4 inch long all over her head. She got stopped in a store once by a little elderly lady who gave her information about free hats for cancer patients.

anorak · 31/01/2008 00:32

Hello, I have been absolutely fine, I didn't get sick and I think the danger time for that is past now.

Hair loss will come later I think - in a week or two.

Please tell Colin I hope he feels better soon

WHat a scary journey, Dooneygirl.

Glad you are feeling ok, Anorak. That must be a relief.

I thought DS was asleep but he has just thrown his pyjamas at me so I guess it was wishful thinking! He keeps popping his head out saying, "G'niggghhhht. Sleep tiggghhht"

Now he's telling me to do the laundry.

OP posts:
dooneygirl · 31/01/2008 02:19

You made his day, Anorak. He just loves to see his name anywhere. Glad to hear you didn't get sick.

Last night was ugly. He coughed all night, and had a very difficult time breathing. He seems to do better in cold air, and not a steamy bathroom, so we sat outside and looked at the snow. I hate it because he has these tired, glassy eyes and just looks at me like "can't you help me?". Today was no better in the morning. He just sat on the couch and watched his movies, and fell asleep on my lap. He woke up and decided to move to his bed, and slept for another 3 hours. He woke up a totally different boy, and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Mom, I feel really better." He's actually been running around with his sister, and while he's still got his barking cough, his fever has really gone down, and he hasn't had breathing problems. Hope this continues tonight.

Glad to hear he is better, dooney

Pan! You must be psychic I was thinking about you yesterday as I was waiting for ds1 to finish with his occupational therapy. I think his hsc issues are a bit more extreme than when we first talked and he has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder. Still, everything I have read has helped me to deal with it and also was instrumental in the decision to have an evaluation done on him. I hope your lovely little dd realizes what a special caring father she has. Being a sensitive little girl, I'm sure she does

dooneygirl · 31/01/2008 02:31

I'm just glad we didn't (hopefully) have to go to the hospital this time. I was thinking about it last night, and would have if he got any worse, but with the snow that iced over last night and a trip down a steep hill, and then back up again, it made me think twice.

chocchipcookie · 31/01/2008 12:34

Oh My Gosh (as we say in Ohio) I think we are the only ones not unwell? It sounds bad out there. We have heavy snow forecast today so my son is praying for a snow day.

OR, We finally got that reference and I sent it off Express Mail so now we wait and see. Didn't realize you could do next day through the post office for $16 which I think is cheaper than Fed-Ex or UPS, not sure.

Did suggest to DS that he might want to go to uni back in the UK.

'Why would I want to do that?' he replied with bewildered frown. He is an American I think.

dooneygirl · 01/02/2008 02:46

He's doing "even more really better" than yesterday. We made it grocery shopping, which is good because we really needed to. I even got the house all cleaned up except dusting. Much happier day in the dooney household.
