Neighbours own the road of course!

Probably trivial but is getting a real pain.

Residential on street parking, no restrictions at all. If neighbours can’t get parked exactly at their front door they box me in in by double parking against my car, meaning their car is parked parallel to me so close we can’t even get in drivers doors.

There is also a car in front & behind so I have to wait for them to move, they are parked as they should be.

We have been blocked in and knocked to ask them to move and they don’t answer the door. I usually end up walking .

Its deliberately being done now. I know this as this family have been awful to me since I moved in my home 2 years ago.

What can I actually do?

Call the police, they are preventing you from leaving.

AnSolas · 22/09/2023 08:06

If they are not parking in a parking spot and are blocking the road way call into the local police station and ask if they would send somebody down to ticket the car.

Jifmicroliquid · 22/09/2023 08:07

Are they not blocking the road when they do this?

Littleslippers · 22/09/2023 08:08

Sorry you have such dim neighbours OP

Soontobe60 · 22/09/2023 08:08

So are they leaving their car in the middle of the road? I think we need a diagram.

TinglingTangling · 22/09/2023 08:09

Call the police or stop parking there for an easy life.

GrumpyPanda · 22/09/2023 08:15

Police. And push for car to be towed rather than ticketed.

OlizraWiteomQua · 22/09/2023 08:26

You need a set of wheel jack dollies like this - simply jack up each wheel onto a dolly, push the car somewhere else and then let the wheels off the dollies. Nb make sure you have a couple of other people to help push and stabilise the car especially if on a slope, if you lose control of the car you will be responsible for any damage.

You will probably only need to do this a couple of times before the neighbours stop being so childish at which point you will be able to sell on the jack dollies and recoup most of what you paid.

FallingAutumnLeaf · 22/09/2023 08:45

Are they not blocking more than just you getting out? How does the car behind you get out?
I'm assuming the road is wide enough for 3 cars, so the entire road isn't blocked. So they can park on the othervside of the road, or ate blocking the entire road?? They are twats.

Police.

daffodilandtulip · 22/09/2023 08:49

Where do you all live where the police care about parking?! Mine just tell me to log it with the council.

AnSolas · 22/09/2023 09:05

If the OP is at the curb and the NDN is outside that not at a curb it becomes a blocking the public highway issue.
If the NDN is that much of a ass this will esculate into breach of the peace as the car will end up being lifted as the council worker should not leaving cars abandoned in the roadway.
But the main reason to involve the police is that the NDN is engaded in harrassment of the OP. The parking is the method being used and that is a police matter.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 22/09/2023 09:14

Honestly?
I would just not park there. Life is too short to try and reason with the unreasonable.

prh47bridge · 22/09/2023 09:20

This is harassment and possibly also causing an obstruction. Report it to the police.

SD1978 · 22/09/2023 09:24

What do you mean they are parked as they should be? Does this only happen if you park in front of 'their' house?

Bluebellsbells · 22/09/2023 09:25

If they block you in the police can do something. If they obstruct a driveway with no car on for example they can't do anything. Ring 101 call the counsel too.

Itsfridaysmiles · 22/09/2023 09:50

I mean we are all parked next to the pavement as we should be but they then park parallel to the car, so they are 2 car wide parked, meaning I can’t get out without the car in front or behind me moving first. I’m basically boxed in.

Im not deliberately parking there but without parking in a different street what am I to do, it’s only me they do this too, that’s why I know it’s most likely deliberate.

How can they be next to the curb and parallel to your car if you are also next to the curb?

Diagram!

Aquamarine1029 · 22/09/2023 09:52

Good grief, op, this is totally illegal of them. Call the police every single time.

FallingAutumnLeaf · 22/09/2023 10:02

It's a very slow day at work.
This is what I'm picturing. So they are blocking the road. Hence calling the police.

If it's anything else, please enlighten us - as I can't see how they are blocking you in without blocking the road.

Neighbours own the road of course!
BigBundleOfFluff · 22/09/2023 10:12

Oh that's horrible OP. What happens if you park elsewhere on the street? Do they still box you in then? That way you can tell if they are doing it deliberately. Especially if there are other spaces available. I'd be taking photos/ videos every single time.

SheilaFentiman · 22/09/2023 10:15

I think it must be a wide enough road for drivers to get past the double parking

SheilaFentiman · 22/09/2023 10:16

I love the coloured pens on the diagram

Lolapusht · 22/09/2023 10:16

That is a beautiful diagram @FallingAutumnLeaf !

Perfect diagram

Dahliasrule · 22/09/2023 10:18

Surely that is illegal if both cars are on the road, ie. If the three cars are not in a designated parking lane. However, it is an incredibly mean thing to do.
