Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

paper where has the op said she was was too ill to attend? She said herself she has no real reason for not going.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:50

Definetly wont lie under oath as I know that could make things a lot worse, the thought hadnt even crossed my mind.

The legal advice is free tomorrow so as nickynacky says, you've nothing to lose.

Good luck.

Floralnomad · 16/01/2018 22:52

How come police stations are open so late in Scotland , all the ones round here close at 5 pm and I’m in a large town in the south east , presumably you only get in if you get taken in . Good luck OP .

SleepIsForTheWeek · 16/01/2018 22:52

I spent a night in a cell once and the staff were so lovely to me, they knew it was a mistake and kept me topped up with coffee, lights for my cigarettes (it was a long time ago!) and books. I had to take my bra off and cried when they told me I couldn't have my underwear back when I was questioned because I felt so humiliated and they relented. It wasn't the highlight of my life but it wasn't as awful as it could have been, and I speak from someone who suffers panic attacks. They were kind to me and I'm sure they will be to you too Laura. Good luck, check back in with us tomorrow if you can to let us know how you are Flowers

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:53

The front bars are closed in Scotland but the stations are still working. Did you think the whole place shuts after a certain time?

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:54

Yes a friend mentioned earlier about a potential stripsearch and is a scary thought tbh

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 16/01/2018 22:55

No , obviously it’s a 24 hr service but where do you actually present yourself if all the doors you can reach are locked ?

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:56

When people come in on warrant they are quite frequently given a full search as the potential for them to smuggle drugs/whatever are high. Frankly I'm not sure if they would do that with you assuming you have no drug history.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:57

Logging off now, thanks for your kind words ladies.

There is a phone at the door at most offices. Or you knock or call 101 and ask to be put through.

Paperwhites · 16/01/2018 22:57

The OP states she has 'health issues' page one.

Given you're an insider, surprised you didn't flag up the free legal advice nickynacky.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:58

What do you mean? I told her she will speak to a lawyer tomorrow?

makingmiracles · 16/01/2018 22:58

I can’t imagine they will strip search you on the basis you didn’t turn up for jury service Hmm would think it’ll be a over clothes pat down and then you’re be put in the cell.

You’ll be fine, although I wouldn’t bank on much sleep

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 22:59

A lot of the offices have staff manning the front office 24 hours

expatinscotland · 16/01/2018 22:59

Hope you get there safely and have a quiet night and are released soon. Just tell the truth and you'll be fine.

CharizMa · 16/01/2018 23:03

bloody hell, i'd no idea the consequences of missing jury duty were this severe.

How frightening OP. Hope you're OK. Hope the night passes more comfortably than you're expecting.

Note3 · 16/01/2018 23:04

Goodness nicknacky is helping OP and several of you are completely misreading their posts and trying to find issues where there are none. Is it because they have shared their status as a police officer and you guys harbour underlying grudges Hmm

Good luck OP. Hope your stay is quiet and your court appearance not too horrendous

CremeFresh · 16/01/2018 23:11

Hope the night goes quickly Op.

I was a witness in a child abuse case (happened when I was a kid) , I turned up to give evidence and was kept hanging about for ages , my nerves were shredded and had to go home in the end without giving evidence due to problems with the jury . I did eventually give evidence but it was horrendous for me , so it really is important to turn up for JS.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2018 23:11

Thanks for your help, Nick. I found your posts very helpful and hope they helped the OP, too Smile. It is scary going to court and I used to work in one! I was summoned as a witness and the letter does tell you that you must attend and if you cannot you need to let them know asap (it also involved a lot of waiting round but the craic was brill in the witness room).

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 23:12

Thanks expat Although sometimes it doesn't matter what you say which is frustrating!!

Mildred007 · 16/01/2018 23:21

Good luck op Flowers
Fantastic advice from @Nickynacky I hope it has helped settle your nerves a little.

PistFump · 16/01/2018 23:26

Gosh I hope she gets on ok. What a horrible situation to find yourself in.

PointlessUsername · 16/01/2018 23:50

Hope you get on ok op.

FairfaxAikman · 17/01/2018 04:33

@Nicknacky's posts have been the best on the thread.

Many of the other posters don't seem to grasp that there is a difference between English and Scottish law.
