Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

Hope you have a comfortable and quiet night that passes quickly OP.

LyraPotter · 16/01/2018 22:37

You are doing the right thing OP. In all honesty I think it's unlikely you'll be made to spend the night in the cells unless they think there's a chance you're going to disappear. Explain your health issues and be as cooperative as possible. The most likely outcome is you will be fined. Stay calm, you'll be ok x

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:37

lyra the police have no option. It's a court warrant and she needs to appear in from of the court.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 16/01/2018 22:37

You’ve not really anything to be scared of though OP. Nothing is going to happen to you. Yes it’s not pleasant having to spend a night in a cell but it’s not dangerous. Really, you’re just going to have a very boring, less comfortable than normal, night and then go and get a fine.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:39

No point me getting legal advice as I was guilty

lyra She WILL be kept overnight. There is absolutely no question about that. If she's going to be fined that'll be at court tomorrow

Paperwhites · 16/01/2018 22:40

Mitigating circumstances. Get legal advice. This is very important.

ilovetvandchocolates · 16/01/2018 22:41

Take a book with you to pass the time and good luck! Thanks

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:41

laura Taking legal advice is entirely up to you but there is no harm at all speaking to the lawyer in the morning. Nothing to lose!

Redglitter · 16/01/2018 22:41

What mitigating circumstances? The OP has acknowledged she should have gone. She's not trying to make excuses

BakedBeans47 · 16/01/2018 22:42

Hope it goes OK OP x

Seems a tad heavy handed, it’s been several years since I did criminal Work tbf but quite often the sheriffs didn’t grant warrants for accused and witnesses unless they’d failed to turn up more than once x

yousignup · 16/01/2018 22:42

Good luck OP. Hope it's a calm and unscary night.

McTufty · 16/01/2018 22:42

No point me getting legal advice as I was guilty

Get the advice OP. Advice goes further than guilty or not guilty. They can advise you of the process at court etc

Paperwhites · 16/01/2018 22:44

Nickynacky says you'll be offer legal advice. Take it.

Is it free in Scotland like England?

ImListening · 16/01/2018 22:45

OP - please get legal advice. They will advise on mitigation

WalkingEverywhere · 16/01/2018 22:45

Hope it goes ok OP.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/01/2018 22:45

Why on earth does a woman who makes a stupid decision but hasn’t actually harmed anyone nor is a risk to anyone have to spend the night in a cell?

Because she has committed a criminal offence and is being held to appear in court. The emotional harm caused may have been significant to the victims if a trial (domestic violence, rape, assault...) couldnt go ahead as there were not enough suitable jurors. The court resources wasted.

It is important it is a criminal offence to prevent people causally not turning up.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:45

It will be free tomorrow.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:45

Hopefully an unscary night yeh

Smoking my last ciggie at the moment, shaking a bit. I am ok though I will be relieved if this is all over and done with tomorrow.

Hope it goes ok op and well done for taking responsibility for your actions.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:47

Op, I'm just checking. Does the police office you are going to def have a custody suite?

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:48

Yes it does? Why?

OP posts:
Niceandnormal · 16/01/2018 22:48

I wish you all the best OP.
It will not be a pleasant night but it will be clean and warm.

Do not be tempted to make up excuses and tell fibs as others are telling you to do.

Lying under oath is perjury and will get you into a whole heap of bother on top of any other trouble you may find yourself in.

I find it very concerning that people on here are happy to advise the telling of anything other than the truth.

Be honest and very apologetic. You will be okay, you may get a fine but you will not be sewing mailbags for the next 15 years.

Paperwhites · 16/01/2018 22:48

The OP has been ill and other issues.

The illness alone is mitigating.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:48

Just checking in case you turn up at an office that don't have facilities to take you!
