Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

Nicknacky - you said it was warm, but you or someone else said police stations could be either hot or cold. Also, people feel temperatures differently. don't they?
I had just always heard that the accused should be in formal wear to give a good impression at court. There are even jokes about it. I'd be embarrassed in such a formal atmosphere in a tracksuit. I'm hoping she'd have her bra back by then.

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:19

I have changed clothing slightly since a previous post.

No reason really though trying to look smart at least, White Blouse, Navy Cardigan, Dark Grey trousers and will wear my Boots.

gwen when was the last time you heard of someone freezing to death in a police cell. She won't be cold and it's not the end of the world if she is chilly!

And she is appearing from custody so what she wears matters not a jot. A trial is a different issue, smart clothes are expected.

Aliasgrace1 · 16/01/2018 22:20

Omg I can't believe you have to spend the night in a cell! Bloody ridiculous! Good luck xx

expatinscotland · 16/01/2018 22:22

You don't have to be in formal wear to go to court! Hell, the Accused when I went was in clothes from jail.

IAmSamSamlAm · 16/01/2018 22:23

I have been called for jury duty twice. Wouldn't have dreamed of not turning up. Civic duty.

Well bully for you. How helpful Hmm

Gwenhwyfar · 16/01/2018 22:24

"when was the last time you heard of someone freezing to death in a police cell. She won't be cold and it's not the end of the world if she is chilly"

There's something in between freezing to death and being chilly. She may be cold all night as well as scared and anxious and not being allowed to sleep. I'd be cold if I had to sit here without my top layers. Police work has obviously taken the human sympathy away from you.

MultiGrey · 16/01/2018 22:25

OP I hope tonight is not too horrible for you.

I get that the justice system relies on people doing JS but supposing the letter got lost in the post or something? Spending the night in a cell for something that is not your fault is a terrifying prospect Shock

expatinscotland · 16/01/2018 22:25

She's not going to trial, Gwen. Hmm And if she is cold she can ask for a blanket. They are not medieval torturers.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 16/01/2018 22:25

You’ll be grand OP. Hope it’s not an uncomfortable night for you and not too big a fine.

Vivienne You will just have to say you had a panic attack or something and get your GP to write a note.

The more you post the more I wonder what fucking planet you live on. Hmm

speakout · 16/01/2018 22:25

I've been called 4 times.

Quick phone call each time and I was excused. No letters, no GP visits. Pleasant court staff removed me from the list each time.

gwen because in the scheme of things someone having to ask for an extra blanket isn't going to tug on my heart strings. It's not a big deal, you are just making it one.

McTufty · 16/01/2018 22:28

But I don't understand any of this. I thought people were arrested so they could be questioned for something. OP isn't going to be questioned, but is going straight to court? Why can't she just have been summoned to court? Why the need to stay overnight with the police if the police don't want to question her or anything?

Because a warrant like this is issued in the first place because someone hasn’t turned up, so summoning them to court would usually be a pointless exercise.

OP - best of luck Flowers

AdalindSchade · 16/01/2018 22:28

If there is a warrant out then you have to go to the police station and WAIT THERE IN A CELL until you can appear in court.
She can hardly check in and then go home again before appearing in court Hmm

Paperwhites · 16/01/2018 22:30

Doesn't she have the right to legal advice?

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:31

She will be asked if she wants a lawyer notified. And she will get to speak to one before going in front of the sheriff.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 16/01/2018 22:32

When I did JS there was more than 1 letter.

expatinscotland · 16/01/2018 22:32

' Police work has obviously taken the human sympathy away from you.'

It's not a hotel. Hmm

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 22:34

It will be a long night for me I am sure and sh*ting myself though I know I need to go and face the music.

My sis like I said is picking me up at 11 so should be there for plenty of time. Only bundled up as it is so so cold tonight. Was hoping I could keep my Boots on and coat if I am in custody though unlikely so wearing thick socks 2 pairs and some thermal underwear.

Scary thought being processed and having to spend the night in a cell, scary also though having to go to court tomorrow, Wont get myself into this situation again.

OP posts:
Paperwhites · 16/01/2018 22:36

Never mind the socks.

Make sure you get legal advice OP.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 16/01/2018 22:36

God, this is awful...I've never been called, but what a waste of resources ifor u don't turn up. Good luck op

Littlechocola · 16/01/2018 22:36

Gwen, I can’t decide if you are sweetly naive or just a bit dim?

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:36

You will have you coat and boots on for most of the process. Toward the end when they sea have you is when they will ask you to take them off.

Nicknacky · 16/01/2018 22:36

Search! Not sea.
